Applications not ANSWER DO NOT

Flock, IE8, Firefox, Adobe Audition 3, you name it, I have and no one escapes the latest innovation of Windows Vista: "ANSWERS DO not.

It happens on 3 of my machines Vista (32 bits of a 64-bit desktop and two laptops). Windows 2000 SP4 NEVER had this problem. NEVER.

Vista: white = screen application - title bar says "not responding" and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting 5 minutes sometimes for the application to respond. WHY?

HOW SHOULD I DO? Don't tell me to use Microsoft Fix It - it's about as useful as FDISK and about as deadly.

Hi Ian,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site!

Since when are you this problem?

What changes did you make on all three systems?

This could happen, that's all the background program is in conflict with the proper functioning of your computers. To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

The steps to perform a clean boot are given below:

1 log on to the computer using an account with administrator rights

2. click on start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue

3. on the general tab, click Selective startup, and then clear the check box load startup items. (The check box use the file Boot is not available.)

4. on the Services tab, click to select the skin all the Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all

Note: Following this step lets services Microsoft continue to run. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use with existing restore points system restore utility

For more information about the clean boot, follow the below given link:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

1. click on start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

2. on the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

3. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart

Try to perform a sweep of virus\malware that this could happen because of some file in the system.

You can download the file and run it from the link given below.

You can also visit the link and a malware scanner as suggested.

I did the fix it myself - and got to this 3rd option below:
However, in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon registry subkey, I have no Winlogon

  • D drive not working do not. Bed "Application not found".

I had to get a new hard drive a few months ago and this is the first time using my D drive since.  When a disc is inserted, it looks like he's trying to read the disc, but then nothing happens.  When I try to open it manually, it says "Application not found".  I recently got a new printer and try to install the equipment for this and am unable.  I tried to change the drive letter, Microsoft troubleshooting Services automated: your CD or DVD cannot read or write media.  No change and still does not.  I need help please!

You can get in trouble with your device drivers.  Go to Device Manager by going to start / find and type Device Manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Check each device to a red x, yellow! or white?  These identify devices with problems probably (drivers, but also of conflict or something else).  Click on each for more details and troubleshooting tips.  If you need to get the drivers (and you need to do for the reader of CD and the printer - drivers, firmware and software - and all the others that you have time to do-, they help way beyond simply solve this problem), let the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device (NOT of Microsoft Updates).  In fact, you must disable automatic updates in Windows Update driver as follows: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/. Follow these steps to get the drivers: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm.  Once you have the drivers, you can install them via the Manager device as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html.  Make sure the devices are attached and in the course of running when you install the drivers and firmware and software - is available but certainly the drivers.  After the drivers, you can install the firmware and software.

How did you install Vista on your new drive hard if you do not use the CD player?  So it must have worked at a given time.  I think that it will solve the problem to update the drivers on it (they probably got changed for bad ones during the re-Setup).

As far as the printer will, once you've done the above, use the Add Printer Wizard and it should take you thrugh the process without problem.  If you have any problems, post the EXACT error messages and where the process failed it.  Then, we will try to remedy this situation separately, but for nowlet concentrates for the functional CD.

    I have hopethis help.

    Good luck!

  • Open with / Application not found

I me was a virus called 'Vista Internet Security' told me almost everything on my computer has been infected, and he tried to make me buy a $ 50 allegedly program fix. I knew it was fake, so I used SUPER Anti Spyware Free Edition to get rid of him. He got rid of a few horses of Trojan and spyware rogue file. I was so happy to make it out of my computer. But I restarted and now when I try to open something (e.g. Mozilla Firefox) a window pops up that says: "what do you want to open this file with?" and, of course, I just want to go on the internet, not open it with anything. It will open on a regular basis if I right click and click "Run as Administrator" but won't some files. For example, if I double-click on Microsoft Works, it will say "Application not found" and if I right click on it and click "Run as Administrator", it is said also that. I don't know why it does this, if anyone can help me?
