arrow of notification area is missing
I can't hold the arrow that hides or displays icons in the notification area and it appeared, but is
missing once again at the next startup, I installed Tune Up Utilities, uninstalled and installed again and
followed instructions to Tune Up, but made no difference, nothing else has been added, thank you
Not certain it will help, but give it a try. It is a simple method.
Right click on the taskbar > properties > Notification area > is there a front checkmarkin "Hide inactive icons"? > If no, check > OK

The icons in the notification area of the bar (on the side of the lower right of the desktop) tasks are not all there. The speaker/volume icon is over now and the arrow next to the notification (to show and hide icons) area has also disappeared. I have not changed anything on the computer. I tried to restart but it did not help. No idea why this would suddenly disappear and how to get it back?
Have you tried right clicking on an empty area of the taskbar, properties tab and taskbar by selecting it and then pressing the button customize section Notification area? Missing icons in the Notification area of the taskbar
Some of my auto began the task at startup are not presented in my taskbar notification area. Check or uncheck to hide the icons inactive functions have no influence on this behavior. Is this a known bug of Windows XP-Home Edition?
Hello
Tasks that are not present in the taskbar area?
As far as I know if the application has started as a background process doesn t lie in the taskbar.
Also possibly installing some programs ask you if you want to create the icon in the taskbar.Additional I found an article very useful on the icons in system tray missing at startup of Windows XP.

Network icon is missing from the notification area after the window updated
I have some problems about the notification for the network and the volume icon!
They are missing after the window updates!
I tried to check the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties' > 'Notification area', Volume and network are grey which I cannot check these boxes. Grateful if you could help me solve this problem!
Thank you very much!Hi VisBo,
Welcome to the windows vista forums.
Please follow the steps below to resolve this issue:
1. right click on the taskbar and click Properties.
2 tab Area of Notification .
3 check (on) or disable (off) the options you want or do not want to display on the Taskbar Notification area.
For the network icon, you can also do with the registry.
NOTE:
Please be careful while making changes to the registry, any undesirable changes can affect your operating system.
1. click on start.
2. in the start menu search bar type regedit, and then on enter.
3 Please go to this location in the registry by expanding each location by clicking on the brand more on the left side.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\LocalSettings\Software\
Microsoft\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify4. remove the keys 'IconStreams' & 'PastIconsStream '.
5. start the Task Manager by pressing ctrl + alt + delete at the same time.
6. in the Task Manager right click on explorer.exe and kill the process.
7. click on applications in the task manage, press new task and type explorer.exe, and then press ENTER.
Explorer will now reboot and your icons should return.
Alternatively, you can try to uninstall the most recent update that has caused the problem. You can uninstall an update by clicking on the icon of the program features in Control Panel. Select the update that caused the problem, and then uninstall it.
You can also make a selection of updates to install by setting the windows updates to notify you before installing an update. To open this Panel, and then click windows updates, click settings.
I hope this information is useful.
Please let us know if you need assistance.

Use this tutorial. Depending on the version of Vista, you have, use the method two or three.

Icon 'Remove hardware safely' is missing from the notification area
I just reinstalled Win7 X 64 business but found that the icon 'Remove hardware safely' is missing from the notification area when I plug a USB key or external HARD drive (they don't work either by the way, I can view files in them no problem), I tried the solution of workaround suggested in http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-desktop/safely-remove-hardware-icon-missing-and-cant-eject/e9fda0a2-c308-4853-bf1d-a3926ff0fcd1?page=1&tm=1299855382970#footer , but it does not resolve the issue, I don't see the USB stick or external HARD disk in the dialog 'remove hardware safely '. The only way I can eject a USB device is click on the drive in windows Explorer and select "eject" while even "eject" is not available for an external HARD drive
Does anyone know how to troubleshoot it?Hello

Missing icons in the notification area
The only icons in the notification area are Microsoft Security Essentials and the clock. How can I get the default icons (especially ' remove hardware safely') to appear?
It wasn't the problem. But I did a ggogle search and found many others have had the same problem of lack of icons in the notification area, the solution was a small script that change a line in the registry, and the problem is solved. The problem has been apparently related to start several programs at the same time when the computer is turned on.
