Watch the video file. The last 3 letters represent the file format.

Windows Movie maker only supports the following video file formats:

Video files: .asf, .avi, .dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

If yours is not on the above list, Movie Maker will have probel play.

In this case, you will have to google for a free video converter and change the format of your video file to WMV. WMV format is the most reliable format for Windows. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

  • Put links to video files in web pages - want option 'Open with' when the viewer clicks on the links.

If I go to a video file that is stored in my computer, for example xyz.mp4 and right click on it, one of the options is 'Open with' and several options for example QuickTime player, RealPlayer are presented for me to choose. But when I add the file to a web page and create a link to it for example http://sillyvideos.com/xyz.mp4 and then I right click on this link (on the web page) in my Firefox browser, I don't get the option 'open with '. My question is: is it possible to put a link to a video in a web page, so I or other viewers can click right on it and benefit from the option 'open with' (so we can choose the drive to open it, without having to download first in our computers)?

Normally what happens, is that the server sends the content with one or more headers that dictate what Firefox did with the video.

For example, if the content is sent with a header that Firefox can play internally, then Firefox can open the video in a tab and use a built-in player. You can see with MP3s when the server says that it is "audio/mpeg" content. However, if the server sends a content type that a capable of handling plugin, Firefox can attempt this plugin.

Normally Firefox will assume that the content is meant to be displayed in the browser, unless it is an unknown type or has a content-disposition header set to "attachment". In these cases, Firefox usually has open/save/Cancel dialog box.

I don't know what kinds of choices you want to offer visitors to your site, but if you thought giving them a choice of the players external , sending to content-disposition: attachment to make appear the probably the most logical open/save/Cancel dialog box. With smaller files such as JPEG and PDF, I did it with a script on the server side (for example, a PHP script). I don't know if the script would work with multimedia files.

If you want to provide more choices, you might need the buttons or links in the page.

This example applies to a PDF file, but the same idea applies to the image files and it can work with files more mainstream media. (In this case, you change the script to specify the correct content type.)

Implementation of the PHP approach, you follow these steps. This assumes that your server supports PHP (most do so) and that your Web host allows you to download PHP files.

    (1) save the following as getpdf.php file

    http://www.jeffersonscher.com/RES/getpdf.php.txt

    (2) using a FTP software or your server download function, copy getpdf.php into the same folder as your PDF file

    (3) test with your link. In the address bar, or in an e-mail, insert the following text before the name of the PDF file:

    getpdf.php?f=

Thus, for example, this direct link to the PDF:

    http://www.jeffersonscher.com/RES/Mixed_Content_Blocking.PDF

would become this link to the PHP file:

    http://www.jeffersonscher.com/RES/getpdf.php? f =Mixed_Content_Blocking.pdf

  • Firefox does not remember volume level on flash for example of YouTube videos files, why?

Audio and video files always start playing at full volume, rather than to remember the previous volume. Disable all add-ons does not solve the problem, and the problem does not exist when I use other browsers. I tried to go into the settings of my flash (local and global when right-clicking on a video) and say things to allow the storage of data on my hard drive, but it also has not solved the problem.

Some flash videos in fact retain the status level / mute volume, but YouTube, DailyMotion and others are not among them even if they are working correctly when I use Chrome. This is extremely irritating because it resets the volume up during playback of the playlist.

I noticed just now that you somehow seem to be two versions of the Flash Player installed. Perform a new installation of the latest version as follows.

    1. From the next page, save the program uninstall handy somewhere, like the office.

    2. In the next page, save the installer for other browsers. If you are also using Flash Player in Internet Explorer, also save the ActiveX version.
    3. Close all applications.
    4. Launch the uninstaller.
    5. In Windows Explorer, try to open the following folders. If they exist, delete them manually.
      • C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\
      • %AppData%\Adobe\Flash Player\
      • %AppData%\Macromedia\Flash Player\
    6. Restart your computer.
    7. Run the Setup program for the other browsers.
    8. Run the installation of the ActiveX program if you downloaded it.

  • Need to open video files to external viewer

I work in a video studio. We have a management system of internal project based on the web, where we keep all the approved versions of mp4 video projects. Before today, I could click on any video file and it automatically opens in an external viewer (quicktime) that is necessary, because sometimes I have to open several videos at the same time and compare.

Today, however, whenever I click on one, it will open in a Firefox window. I went to tools > Options > Applications and modified manually MP4 to open in Quicktime. But files still open in the window of Firefox, making it impossible to open 2 files for comparison.

Please help me get this back to the way I need to work!

Enter about: config in the firefox address bar (confirm the message information where it appears) and search for the preference named media.windows - media - foundation.enabled. Double-click on it and change the false value - this will also disable the support of native html5 for mpeg formats incorporated into well sites.

  • Video files pasted/exported on USB or HDD twice?

    Hey all,.

When I download a video or export some of my own and put them on a USB Flash drive to connect to my Samsung Smart curved TV, rather than a single video that works on the USB port, there are two files. Who says: "unable to read the selected format" and another who plays very well.

It's frustrating, because instead of only 40 videos on my USB key, I have 80. And half do not work, which is difficult to navigate as it shows only 8 videos through the screen of the TV.

This problem is not moved when the Flash DRIVE has been formatted for WINDOWS ONLY, he started since I erased and reset it as MS-DOS FAT *.

    Thank you!

These files are not additional video files, are Mac system files, they are hidden on a disk as Mac OS X, but are visible when the drive is formatted under DOS.

I delete these files before sending video on USB memory drives customers using an application called own ejection, it is free software and is available for download here: own ejection

  • When I click on a video file, I wonder what program to use to run it.

I use any plugins to play my video files. Instead, I trust the Player multimedia itself. Currently, there are a lot of files that open in VLC or Windows Media Player, when I click on their link in Firefox. Some other types of files do not open immediately and I am prompted with a box asking me to choose a program to run the file. I click on "Do it again" or something like that, said, hoping that when I opened such a file, I would not invite with this message again. Unfortunately, this is not the case. While many files opens my media players directly, there are many who ask me what program to use, even if it is verified to use a specific program.

The setting automatically uses a specific program is linked to the MIME type that the server sends with the file.

If it's a generic MIME type then Firefox does not offer that choice and in other cas servers can use different MIME types.

  • Firefox won't play .ogv video files when loading a server. Does anyone have answers will fix this?

I read the suggestions to resolve this, and none of them work. I've updated my .htaccess to match the MIME types for .ogv, I downloaded the binary files and ASCII, neither method works. The .ogv file plays well when you load from a local file, but it will not play seen from a remote server. I confirmed with my hosting company the .htaccess and other issues for HTML5 are up-to-date. Safari and Chrome play the HTML5 videos very well, but not Firefox. Does anyone have concrete answers as to what is the problem. I also use .webm and .mp4 video files, but none of these formats work in Firefox either.

I pestered my hosting a bit more and told them that all topics help here said it was a hosting problem. They double-checked and did a little work on their end, and * voila *, everything works fine now!

The bottom line advice: Pester your hosting service to solve this problem!

  • Toshiba Camileo H30 problem with conversion of avchd video files

    Hello

I have Toshiba Camileo H30-camera, how do I convert video files saved in FullHD mode in any format/good quality files that can be read by a DVD player?

When you left unconverted, they can't even read from the remote hard drive connected to the TV.
I know that his camera records videos in the form of AVCHD files with h264, but have no idea how can I covert them to any format reasonable and recently used.

I tried some converters, but no positive effect.

    Help, please!

    Hello

You can use converter like AVCHD Converter applications.
This would convert AVCHD files to .avi format.

But AFAIK the VLC Player should support the AVCHD file format and you could use VLC player to play movies recorded in this format.
