  • Failed to read the serial number or of SNIDS on label Aspire 5100.

    Hello

I use the search function but did not find a question quite like this - little surprising?

A family member gave me a laptop Aspire 5100 that no power, fear of the system board.  Not seem to receive a wave of newer computers with bad cards system.  The label on the back of the laptop with the number of series & NSID is faded & I can't do all the numbers.

Since I will very probably be pulling apart anyway is everywhere, maybe inside, where the serial number or the SNID could be printed?

The manual lists this laptop to use ATI Radeon® Xpress 1100 or Xpress1200 chipset - I can't tell the difference between the two.  All system boards for sale seem to only list Xpress 1100 chipset that will probably work but a little clarification on Xpress 1100 vs 1200 would be nice.

    Thank you

Can try it analyzes, you'd be surprised to know that can capture even a little expensive HP scanner/printer.

  • Acer Aspire 5100 Windows 8.1 problems (64-bit)

    Hello Acer users,.

my mother has an Acer Aspire 5100 and is happy with it so far. I installed an SSD hard drive and Windows 64-bit from 8.1 to it (fresh). Now, she is very happy that the machine is very fast. Allthough there are new problems that accompanies the installation and I'm not happy with them. They are as follows (all drivers related questions I guess, no driver in Windows update or on Acer site):

1 - memory card reader does not work and does not appear in the Explorer. Device manager shows 3 x peripheral problem which are the memory card reader. Which brand is?

2 - WIFI does not work (says network adapter), have not yet tried to download and install the drivers from the website of Atheros, will try this next time I visit him. Poster 1 x peripheral problem device manager which I guess is the WIFI because the machine can access internet through wired adapter.

3 - display is fixed (cannot be changed) at a resolution of 1024 x 768 and it can do better, but can not be changed. Downloaded and installed Catalys control center, but this has changed a lot and I do not see anywhere to change the resolution from there. Only several screens etc.

4 - adapter displays in the Device Manager to 200M and it should be Ati Radeon Xpress 1100?

But other than these problems, Windows 64-bit of 8.1 works great and especially with the SSD is very fast. And can recommend to you all =)

Well, if you can help me on this issue. I guess that Acer can not make drivers before they get the manufacturers driver.

  • Aspire 5100 restore options?

I have an Aspire 5100 aging with its D drive that contains a full restoration required once only 2 DVD, but he now has 7. As I've never had the need to use both methods, I'm looking for other means of external restoration to save the use of DVDs.

An external hard drive can be used, if the restore folder images D are exactly copied to the external hard drive? I realize the boot BIOS should be reset if not use Alt F10 or DVD but the boot will pick up the necessary files in the same way?

My OS is XP Media Center Edition, and I've heard of problems with XP restores so would like to know if others have used with success readers ext, and if so do they need to work with some files restore Acer?

I believe that the files are self-contained, so it shouldn't require an entire partition to himself.

    Hi lostboi,

You will not be able to use the product key from one computer to another.

    ·         Who is the manufacturer of the laptop?

    ·         Do you have any CD recovery or partition of recovery on the laptop?

Because the installation is at halfway, there is no way you can restore. In addition, you cannot continue with it that you don't have the correct product key.

You can check if you have the recovery CD or a recovery on the laptop to start the process all over partition. If none is available, you may need to contact the manufacturer of the laptop.

How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Acer is Alt + F10

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

You can also make recovery disk/s since the Partition of recovery in case of hard drive failure or System Crash, when you are in service again.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • XP does not see wireless acer

installed new xp (sp2) on the acer 5100. not found drivers on the acer site. all works except a broadcom wireless adapter. no shows in the wireless network connections. I tried several versions of the driver. no work. any suggestion is welcome. Device Mgr shows yellow? for the other devices/network controller.  Thank you

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. my computer is an acer aspire 5100. I went to the acer driver download page for my specific model and the os. as well as drivers for xp 32 bit, I have used, there are 32-bit drivers for vista and mce. so I downloaded the drivers for each wireless. tried the flavor of the mce. It worked. Wireless works fine.

I am tempted to cancel the installation of the driver and to return to the previous state to see delicate suggestion might work, but I don't want.
bonus of... looking around Intel 5100 acer, I found a lot of people have complained on their machines to overheat. mine has that too. a suggestion is to remove the back cover and check for dust accumulation. I found coverage quarter inch of dust completely blocks the air outlet. Easy fix. no more overheating.
    Thanks again
  • Upgrade Vista 32-bit, Vista 64-bit

I recently "inherited" an Acer Aspire 5100 TravelMate a member of the family.  I had a lot of luck with Acer laptops in the past, so I thought I couldn't go wrong with this one.  So far, so good (great, actually).

My question/quandry: this system came originally with the 32-bit version of Windows Vista.  For many reasons, I did a clean install with Vista Ultimate 64-bit upgrade.  Rockin '!  However, there are at least two relatively minor problems that I can't find solutions to the.  FIRST: the integrated mouse pads.  I can't turn it off when a USB mouse is detected as I can't find the drivers and Synaptics software for this computer only for the 64 bit version of Windows Vista.  Any suggestions?  SECOND: the ATI xpress 1100 graphic card flake.  Same problem as with the built-in mouse pad.  Once again, any suggestions?

No mspot, here will be fine

The symptoms you describe sounds more like a hardware problem, or the graphics chip or motherboard. It is not likely to be the the BIOS update - usually your laptop would not start!
