Assignment cores\processors VMs. practical best of issue.

I have a box of eight core (the OS sees 16 due to hyperthreading). I thought that since it is only a laboratory facility and I have no requirements of product for the number of cores that I have "free" couldn't I just assign all 8 or 16 I guess, carrots to all my VMs and let my server fix things? It is an effective way to go?

Thank you.

Assuming that the application of amd o/s of the virtual machine are mutilthreaded - because if they are not gain it nothing by adding additional vCPUs - switchis vCPUs award when he points out that the hypervisor (which did the calendar of vcpus) spend more time for Annex 8 he would plan a vcpu unique - as Coninuum points out it is advisable to start with a and if more are needed -

best practice is to always start with 1vCPU and work your way to the top.  You can usually find 1vCPU will be enough.  From there, you would go to to 2vCPU.  I don't think that 4 is a good idea.

Nothing should happen to your PC.

Worst case, it's that the PC does not start upward.  Replace your original processor in and it should be good.

Best case scenario is that works, and you're in luck because that would be a good cooler processor running than a Pentium D 960!

Almost all past and current PC applications are only one processor/heart aware.

    Multi-threading...

    This may explain better...

    http://www.Intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/Hyper-Threading/Hyper-Threading-technology.html

    And this...

In order to use multiple cores, the Application must be written to do. A unique set of thread on a basic multi computer installed will cause only 1 core used by the game. There is an advantage that the BONE may assign other duties to the idle Lossnay. If the game can have the attention of 1 core. This isn't a bad thing and gives rise to real performance improvements. But because the game itself doesn't "understand" 1, then it will use only 1. It's him you use XP or Vista. Almost all past and current PC applications are only one processor/heart aware. This will change over time, for sure. But in many / most cases, it will require developers to write completely new applications.

    Hello

Exactly, which is allocated by the parameters 'number of processors' and 'number of CPU cores? The first Option allocates threads (virtual processors) and the second the cores include 2 sons?

Not very useful to me on page 81 and 367 manual ist. Is there a better source?

Story: I am about to buy a new laptop that has a core i5 or i7 with two hearts and I think only 4 wires. Now I wonder if I can run two virtual machines at the same time, and how the settings are to do, if I want to allocate:

    (a) the base (or two threads) to a virtual computer

    (b) a wire to a virtual computer

    (c) a single thread to the host...

is is possible or do I have TO allocate two virtual machines for the same kernel?

    thx for the help

When you create a virtual guest machine, you can choose how many virtual processors (vCPU) there.  If you choose to give it 2 or more vCPUs then the options you listed above control how VMware presents these vCPUs to the guest operating system.

For example, if you choose to give a comment 2 vCPU, then you can either have VMware to present the guest with 2 core processors (virtual) or a single processor dual-core (virtual).  Things performance will be the same, but this option exists because some software are allowed on a base by processor (instead of a per-core) so there may be an advantage permitted to configure your comments in a special way.

The settings above have no effect on how VMware plans to run on your host CPU processes.  By default, VMware will use all the cores available host regardless of how you configure the options above when creating your guests.

Now, with all this talk about several vCPU invited road, I should mention that my experience you will have the best performance if you set up your guests with a unique vCPU.   In a virtualized environment, multiple vCPU / customer does not necessarily in the best performance.  I strongly suggest you create your guests with 1 vCPU and only increase their number of vCPU if tests show that the performance is increased.

You will certainly be able to run several clients at once on your host computer.  If you persevere with 1 vCPU invited, you will almost certainly run in performance RAM problems or disk well until you encounter problems CPU host.

  • 13 Firefox works in multithreaded mode and it can use the quad-core processors?

When you buy a new PC, we choose between dual core vs quad core processors, and some people claim that Firefox work mode multithreaded mulch and treats each tab in a separate process and may fully use the advantage of a quad-core processor. Is this true?

Firefox does not treat each tab in a separate process. If this can be a function in the future, I don't know of any plans to introduce any time soon. Obviously, buying a quad core processor will be significantly faster than a dual core, and your browser is usually less consume a lot of resources than other programs. I would not use it as your buying decision. Firefox will work just as well on a dual-core or a quad-core, but windows and other programs will work better with 4 cores.

  • threads, processes and the dual core processors

    Hello

We use the CVI and we want to use multithreading. The application is running on a dual core processor, so the question is if it is possible to define the basis on which the thread is running? Does anyone know if it is possible to start a program, process, or a thread on a predefined kernel?

If this is not possible with the CVI, is it possible directly with the Windows API?

    Thank you

    Hello

So, I was trying to first Pro CS6 to edit my AVCHD. MTS files. However my AMD Dual - Core Processor E300 couldn't handle files, resulting in "choppy" playback I was wondering if my processor would be better manage your HD files if I the converted to another type of file, ideas or suggestions? And which converter I could use to keep the 1920 x 1080 HD quality? I can't upgrade my CPU, I tried

    I appreciate all suggestions.

This CPU is slower than molasses in winter, it marks a ugly 630 in the test CPU of the pass mark, where a decent CPU would score more 16 000.

Forget it. No way it will work, it's far too slow and underpowered. Get a new PC. It will be same triple DV material, not to mention the AVCHD material. It's like asking your grandma to carry a load of 20 tons up a steep hill, with his 50 year old bike. Can't do.

  • Best practices for hardware issues

    Hi all.

I suspect my questions are unanswered, but here go us...

Assuming that is the CPU of the same frequency and generation, which is better: less physical Sockets with more physical cores/socket OR more physical sockets with less physical cores/socket?  (For example, a "populated with dual-core CPU Server Socket 8" or '2 socket populated with processors octo hearts'?-of course,. )

In the same vein, which would be better: a cluster with 10 guests with simple plugs or 5 guests with double?  (Same CPU and with the understanding that there is no VM requires more resources that the host can provide.)  No claim of CPU or RAM)

    Thoughts?

    Thank you.

    Hello

In my view, licenses vSphere is always per-socket, an important point for those who write checks!  And then there's NUMA.  If you have an idea of the size of the virtual machines, you are going to be running, you can purchase the equipment that matches your NUMA characteristics.

As for your second question, you ask the old question of the ladder up against the scale.  You will find many opinions as people you ask.  The answer, "it depends," is largely true here if you need to enumerate and analyze your needs and your constraints.  A few things to ponder scale vs. scale out:

-With hosts more, smaller, less virtual machines will be affected during a failure of the host

-On the other side of the first, fewer and larger armies with multiple virtual machines can take more time to recover these VMs for an HA event

-More great guests costs usually more little guests

-Small hosts limit the size of your virtual machines compared to larger armies

It has more advantages and disadvantages of each as well as what has already been mentioned in this thread.  Good luck!

  • ORACLE_HOME on best practice database backup issue

    Hello
The next question is about best practices.
I would like to know if the ORACLE_HOME on the physical database should have the same name
as the basis of primary data.
For example, if the primary database name is: / u01/app/oracle/prodcut/1120/PROD
According to best practices should also be: / u01/app/oracle/product/1120/PROD or it should be:
    / u01/app/oracle/product/1120/STDY?
    Thank you

    Yes.

Given what you just said I agree that is the way to do it. So when patch arrives, you should be less likely to make a mistake.

I probably create a 'home' of the decoder sheet and hung it near my desk.
