Audio choppy and distorted on Portege Z930 after update of Win7 for Win8 64

I just wanted to share a tip with you that cost me some time to work, about the sound reproduction of a Portege Z930.

When I got my new Z930 - 14L, he was running Win7.
I tried everything like you do when you get a new machine and it worked fine - including the audio playback.

When I updated for Win8-64 since the CD that came with the computer, everything still seemed to work very well and I had not changed any driver or Setup.

However, after a few minutes, the linenn of audio playback. It choppy, distorted, interrupted, stuttering and I was shocked.

Oddly enough, as soon as I turned my attention to the computer again, reading was OK again - but no screen saver came and no power saving mode has come in so little time. I knew that this was no hardware problem (because it worked in Win7), it was not a driver problem (because the first 5 minutes, the sound was pristine), he was not a ground loop, (as many have suggested) because it sounds differently.

Thanks to another forum, I discovered that it is actually the combination of Windows Defender, Win8-64 Pro and the audio driver that causes this. If the device is idle for a few minutes, the Defender thinks it's a good idea to use idle time to scan the SSD - causing interference with audio playback. Of course, you cannot simply disable or stop the central antivirus process, that would ruin some the whole point. :-)

_So I installed Kaspersky suite on the machine (which automatically disables the Windows Defender) and the problem disappeared! _ it's probably the only time where the installation of an antivirus suite SOLVES a problem. :-)

BTW, this is not probably limited to this antivirus product, simply play a bit with the Defender.

  • Portege Z930 - Downgrade from Windows 8 for Windows 7

    I have serious problems with my new laptop Portege Z930-138. I wanted to downgrade from Win8 to Win7 and transferred my old iso of Win7 on a bootable USB.

    I changed the BIOSsetting CMS BIOS in order to boot from USB and it worked.
    But later, I deleted all partitions on my HARD drive in order to have a primary partition where to install my old Win7.

    However I can't do!

    Now I have 1 GB 119.1 unallocated space and there is no way to create a new partition from it.
    Also when I try to install Win7 it says the disc's style GPT.

    I also tried to convert it from the command prompt, but it does not work.

    You guys have any ideas what to do?

    I don't know if I can get this cd somehow live. If this isn't the case, I would like to know how to upgrade our Bios without having to reinstall the Windows operating system.

    As far as I know on the download page of the BIOS that Toshiba offers the Windows version only. Of way General Linux is not supported.
    Try to contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Maybe they can get this special CD.

    By the way: why you didn t prepared machine (BIOS update) before starting to install Linux?

    If you want to use a clean Windows system, you must purchase the MS Windows disk containing the serial key.
    Toshiba laptops are preinstalled with Toshiba image containing the OEM version of the Windows system and drivers. This image is already enabled. The series key isn t necessary.

    Having the same exact problems since the upgrade. In addition, battery drains very quickly now, and sometimes the phone becomes very hot. It took to the Genius Bar and they told me everything was normal in the diagnostic tests. Restored, restarting, etc., and always the same problems. GPS locates me, but then don't follow my movement at all and told to go outside as the gps is not detected even if I am outside. Bluetooth connection to the car and watch grave intermittently.     This problem has been fixed in subsequent updates. The current update is v11.0.14

    Adobe does not recommend the deletion of registry entries as you suggested.

    I have the function keys working on the first month of windows 8. whenever a windows update broke that for me and after that the kys function no longer works.

    I reformatted the pc, I have tryied all what I found on the web, but the only thing I found is the added value of the package or the memory card controller is missing. I tried to install and reinstall all the versions, but it seems to be 32 bit and no 64-bit version. So I have to wait for the next release of PVAT

    Windows 8 was released many months and I think that the problem is not difficult to solve.

    I took delivery of a new X 200 and must say that I am very disappointed by the audio subsystem. When you listen to music in WMP on the audio jack with the Shure SE420 earphones, there is a hissing/buzzing/distortion while music playing which is very very annoying. What do you expect an MP3 player that is given as a promotional item, but not from a Thinkpad.

    The audio is unacceptable for long flights.

    This is common with the Connexant chip? If so, Lenovo should get elsewhere.

    If you want quality audiophile, theres a expresscard slot and excellent cards out there.

    Perhaps your microphone is reactivated?

  • Portege Z930 - need of external controller for SSD drive internal

    My Board TOSHIBA Portege (ex-portable) (Z930) burned with hot water. I removed the small SSD and now need to transfer the data with a USB drive on another PC.

    I borrowed from a friend a SATA USB adapter with 2 interfaces and even small connectors for SATA was not small enough for SSD from TOSHIBA. Apparently, I need a special SATA USB adapter that installs on TOSHIBA Portege mSata.

    The reason why I wrote here is because there are many SATA USB adapters in internet advertised, but it seems that they have larger connectors. While TOSHIBA calls the marked thereon mSATA SSD, but several people call mSATA for one size larger SSD.

    I don't want to order that something does not again. Is there someone who already removed SSD Portege?
