FiftyThree is also one of the best (paper) apps for note taking (and it works well with their pencil).

  Have you tried to connect another device to this port, whether it of a different set of speakers or earphones, headphones just to test if one of them works?

  What it is connected to the front port at the same time? If so, then disconnect this device and try again the rear port and let me know if there is a change.

  Also try this: desktop HP-no sound on speakers (Windows 8).
