This product ID indicates you have part # SW063. I suspect that there is a typing error because this part number does not exist in my file. It seems that you have JW063 which is a SAS 6/IR.

Instructions for replacing a drive in RAID 1 to start at the bottom of page 46 of the SAS 6/iR user guide:

All you need to do is replace the drive. If it does not rebuild automatically, then set the HARD drive as a hot spare replacement.

  • Restore virtual machines after building the new RAID array

    Hi all

I am new to the virtual machines, so I'm sorry for the newbie question. Currently, I have a HP ML350 G6 ESXi 5.0.0 running on 4 GB Flash hosting SD cards two virtual machines and licenses for 5 Essentials vSphere and vCenter Server 5 Essentials. I also have a RAID5 configuration with drives SAS 146 GB (6). I intend to remove all six readers and their replacement by 300 GB disks and build a RAID6 array. My question is, what would be the best practice to move the two VMS in the current RAID array to the new RAID array? Wouldn't be also simple to make backups of virtual machines or clones, exchanging the readers, the new array of construction and restoring virtual machines? If someone could point me in the right direction would be great!

    Thank you all!

Personally, I would go with backup & restore. In addition, use the downtime to upgrade the firmware of the host (HP published recently a few critical fixes on the RAID controller and some models of HARD drive).

What I would do - to avoid any problem - is to remove the host ESXi, vCenter, replace disks, update the firmware, re - install ESXi and as final step add the host to vCenter again.

  • Possible to use SSD on a PowerEdge 2950 2009

    Hi mates,

We conducted a SQL database for our ERP software on this machine PE 2950 of 2009.

    It is running Raid5 with 4 x cheetas 15 k 146 GB

One of the drives has failed and I was wondering if we could upgrade all drives and use a regular Sata SSD instead of SAS drives?

Only if you are using a PERC 6 / i.  The PERC 5 doesn't support SSD.

You will also need to make a backup/restore for the SSD, you cannot mix of SSD with HARD drive in a table, or can mix you SAS and SATA in the same table.

  • Cannot resolve the problem between ASA - CheckPoint (VPN)

    Hi team,

I have a strange problem with a L2L VPN between an ASA on my side and a checkpoint as her counterpart.

The IPsec tunnel works very well, but from time to time, the traffic stop through the tunnel.

    Scenario:

    172.31.250.0/28--ASA---Internet---checkpoint---200.122.x.y/32

I've done many tunnels between ASAs and control points, but this time we found this:

access extensive list ip 172.31.250.0 outside_1_cryptomap allow 255.255.255.240 host 200.122.164.165

local ident (addr, mask, prot, port): (172.31.250.0/255.255.255.240/0/0)

Remote ident (addr, mask, prot, port): (200.122.164.165/255.255.255.255/0/0)

    #pkts program: encrypt 0, #pkts: 0, #pkts digest: 0

    #pkts decaps: 1148, #pkts decrypt: 1148, #pkts check: 1148

local ident (addr, mask, prot, port): (172.31.250.8/255.255.255.248/0/0)

Remote ident (addr, mask, prot, port): (200.122.164.0/255.255.255.0/0/0)

    #pkts program: 27682, #pkts encrypt: 27683, #pkts digest: 27683

    #pkts decaps: 27683, #pkts decrypt: 27683, #pkts check: 27683

local ident (addr, mask, prot, port): (172.31.250.8/255.255.255.248/0/0)

Remote ident (addr, mask, prot, port): (200.122.164.165/255.255.255.255/0/0)

    #pkts program: 3579, #pkts encrypt: 3579, #pkts digest: 3579

    #pkts decaps: 10443, #pkts decrypt: 10443, #pkts check: 10443

Traffic is defined between 172.31.250.0/28 and a single host, but I see three SAs:

    1 172.31.250.0/28 - 200.122.164.165/32

    2 172.31.250.8/32 - 200.122.164.0/24

    3 172.31.250.8/32 - 200.122.164.165/32

What is the reason for this?

The reason why I have paste this above is because the control point defines the traffic "interesting" as two rules (one in each direction).

    Control point:

    Rule 1: The traffic of 200.122.164.165/32 172.31.250.0/28

    Rule 2: The traffic of 172.31.250.0/28 200.122.164.165/32

So, I think that the problem occurs because we hear by the SAs of the phase 2 bidirectional rules (crypto ACL), and control point sets the SAs of the phase 2 as one-way rules. Even if traffic matches, I see the output above.

I think this means that the ASA receives a portion of the traffic in a SA and send it via another, and I don't know if that is causing the problem and if so, how to fix?

The problem is totally random. We have reduced the time to generate a new key for 2 minutes at the minute of the phase 2 and 5 on the phase 1 and there is no problem during the generate a new key.

We had not been able to capture the log at the exact moment of the problem. Then the tunnel suddenly rises again and start working.

    ASA 5510 version 8.2 (5)

    Any help is appreciated!

    Federico.

    Federico,

New installation SAs is not so to generate a new key, it consicides with a homologous assuming it matches traffic again and must so initial has ITS new.

Now when we have a static, selector of this SA traffic encryption card new must match what we defined in the ACL.

Generally, you will get an error if there is absolutely no match and tunnel would fail to phase 2.

I want to just make sure we're on the same page. When it ends on a dynamic encryption card, we know (or rarely know) what will look like the SA distance so we accept everything.

I do not say that this checkpoint of the half was here half it matched. I say it's more likely (for some reason I couldn't be aware, or a bug) implemented match the ACL under static crypto map.

    Ciao a tutti Ragazzi,

Sempre 7) by budget, sono che cerco Server dei giorni di problemi da 4core e 6core, ho visto dei DELL, FUJITSU, IBM E HP proliant, my a di meno 1400 euro + iva nn ce nulla... (8) mi potete cortesemente consigliare some modello di Server da usare come from the hosts, che costi non molto?

Devo fare it al preventivo client entro the next week, my ho questi doubt nella testa...

Ringraziandovi in pre-empted, spero che possiate help very.

    Ciao

    Momo

Vedrai che quasi sempre risorsa che if esaurisce prima e ram, not the cpu. Quindi partirei con at least 32 giga by host.

Quanto al vCenter, no lo mescolerei con altro. Oltretutto vuole ram UN 4 giga solo by him, di quindi I conti sopra sono sballati. SE he problema e di una licenza windows esiste the appliance risparmiare virtual vCenter.

  • Help Setup RAID SATA for ESXi 4.1

    Hello

It is the first time that you try to use vmware.  Any help is greatly appreciate!

I just built a server around the Intel s5500hcvr mother. I have 6 SATA HDD I want to set up in a RAID. The integrated RAID controller seems to be very limited and does not seem to be supported by ESXi 4.1 (when I run ESXi 4.1 installation and it asks for a location for installation, all my discs are individually listed instead of virtual drives that I created with the RAID controller)

    My questions:

    (1) what is the suggested configuration of HDD (RAID levels / number of berries) for ESXi 4.1?  Can I create 1 RAID 10 array and set everything up to that?  or take one of my disks and install esxi 4.1 on it and then create a RAID with the rest of my discs and use it to store data?

    (2) anyone can provide links to some SATA RAID controllers that are known to work with ESXi 4.1 (and is the supposed to recognize virtual readers created by the RAID controller setup ESXi 4.1)

Your motherboard has a RAID controller software which, as you have discovered, is completely not taken in charge by ESX/ESXi... You will need to get a RAID controller that is on the HCL for SAS and SATA hard drives (not one with battery backup write cache) so you can use any type of RAID configuration.

My preference for Internal RAID configurations (on the host) are two drives mirrored for ESX/ESXi to reside (preferably being SAS 10 k or 15 k RPM, 73 GB or 146 GB in size) and then another table for the data store. You'll want to keep the data slot store table 2 TB-512 b size in order to present to ESX/ESXi as a LUN. Or you will need to get a RAID card this split of the support to the top of the table in the smaller of the virtual drives that can be presented for ESX/ESXi and LUNS.

Search for controllers using the LSI MegaRAID chip as a good first lap. Some Adaptec cards should work, but I've seen people post questions on those recent (more recent than in the past). MANY manufacturers rebrand/efficiency the LSI MegaRAID Controllers server, such as the Dell PERC 6 series cards.

For the use of 4 disks SATA, RAID 10 (on a BBWC, fully supported, controller) will give you the best performance. It will compare with SAS drives however. IF you do not plan on any virtual machine running with anything beyond light IOPS / s then you should be ok (or with very light loads)... If this is going to be a production server, then get the SAS drives all around.

  • The disk identified by its ID or physical location?

I mean, it's with the server off, I can move readers to different locations and the Raid Controller simply know what readers who are without any reconfiguration.  Reason we want to do is to separate Raid 1 + 0 conduit through SAS channels to ensure resilience if one channel fails, the layout being:

4 disk Raid 10, S = Stripe, M = mirror, Assume the delivery of machine as:
    Location 0 - S1Ma
    Location 1 - S1Mb
    Slot 2 - S2Ma
    Location 3 - S2Mb

To ensure the resilience we want to change that through the two SAS - A and SAS - B channels:
    Slot 0 (SAS - A) - S1Ma
    Slot 1 (SAS - A) - S2Mb
    Slot 8 SAS - B - S2Ma
    Slot machine 9 SAS - B - S1Mb

In this way is either A - SAS or SAS - B omits the table still works.

If realize when the server is turned off, the table will not need to be rebuild... the controller is smart enough to know the place of the reader in the table, regardless of the physical location it is attached.

If done when the server is running, the disc will become out of sync with others and will have to be rebuilt in the table.

  • Any HD (almost) for T320 w / good H710?

On the T320 w / 8 Bay hot swap and controller Perc H710...

Can I use any SATA or SAS disk without any problems? I mean they must be good enough to be used in RAID etc but I mean the Dell is going to want readers only Dell? The reason why I ask is that I already have some readers in the House, or want to add later.

You can use the hard SAS or SATA drives, but which ones do you use can determine whether or not you have questions.  Do not use consumer/desktop/computer portable readers.  Enterprise class disks must serve at least.  Certified discs are recommended for maximum reliability or if you ever need Support Dell for help troubleshooting problems related to storage.  Generic/non-certified retail company records can also be used - usually without problem - long as your team is capable of solving the problems of storage/RAID.  Some readers of credits and retail have been tested by the drive manufacturers to be fully compatible (for example, WD RE4), even if they are not considered 'certified' or guaranteed by Dell.  If purchase of authorized discs Dell, you do NOT have to pay the high price of purchase directly from Dell... they can be purchased from a number of distributors/suppliers online.

"In addition, given that I'll order 2 SAS drives to come with her, are all the other empty bays is going to come with hot-swap trays HD so that I can mount some HD inside later?:

No, not configured disk bays will come with white, not empty/caddies carriers, so you can buy carriers of both providers (or disks).
