    Hello

Quick question is there a configuration file or a way for me to have powershell cli automaticly "connect-viserver" when I open the icon "VMware vSphere PowerCLI.

    Thank you

There are several ways to achieve this.

The best way, in my humble opinion, is to add the Connect-VIServer cmdlet to a PowerShell profile files.

Just add a line to the file. If you use an authorized account, you can do

    SE connect-VIServer-Server MyServer

I suggest you use the profile of the current user, in this way that the Connect-VIServer will run only when you start PowerCLI

  • Can I use VMware vSphere CLI to perform a post on esxi 3.5 and 4.0?

Currently, we use a bash script (mainly vimsh and esxcfg-* command) to set up post on our server ESX (vSwitch, service), update, etc..  I found that it is not a RCLI for vSphere 4.0?  a RCLI be rename to just CLI?

Secondly, what tools or version would work for ESXi3.5 and 4.0?  Do not write code twice

And finally, is there any limitation on the CLI or RCLI that it cannot be done locally by esxcfg-# or the VI client

  • 4 ESXi and VMware vSphere CLI

    Hello

I can't start a discussion in the community CLI to I write here.

When I try to use the CLI tools to manage a few shots on an ESXi 4 Server I get strange errors.

    Error string: error. RestrictedVersion.summary

The operation using 'list' works very well but not create or delete.

No idea why it does not work for a 4.0 host but is ideal for a 3.5?

The reason why it worked for you on ESXi 3.5 is probably the version you were using was U2 or U3 where the VI API has an internal bug that allowed two full read/write access, which allows you to perform operations such as switching to a virtual computer or take a snapshot. Go ESXi 3.5u4 +, which includes 4.0 moving forward, the API VI is read-only. Before more details please look here: http://vmetc.com/2009/03/31/esxi-u4-ends-free-version-read-and-write-access-from-the-rcli/

You still have a few options, either unlock the console SSH not supported to automate snapshots using vimsh vim - cmd wrapper, using the VI Client or use VMware VIX and vmrun which currently is not governed by the VI API, take a look here for more information: is not happy with lockdown 3.5u4 VI API/RCLI ESXi? Worry not, VMware VIX to the rescue... for now =)

So, my question is - is the installer deliberately broken (IE, no support for Debian) or is it a perl error code that needs fixing?

    Thank you

    Chris

As William, he will not be supported, but you can use the SDK Software VMware Perl quite easily on any platform of Perl (I did it with window as well).  I did specifically on Ubuntu and OS X over the years.

Install the requirements of the module as shown in "vSphere SDK Perl Source Code installation on Linux".  In the source package, copy the folder VMware vmware vsphere-cli-distrib/lib/VMware/sharing of archive download Perl Linux SDK to your path to Perl.

For required modules, you can use PPM, CPAN or apt get the packages.

I ran this way for years without any problem, but this obviously isn't an official support statement

You should be able to simply do not put a proxy during Setup.  It's there in case it is necessary to download the module dependencies.

  • vSphere CLI: error: unknown command

This could be as simple as just something I miss, but since I do not use the CLI much at all, I thought I'd ask just. I can connect to the CLI, but any command I use the host responds just with either "< command > not found" or when you use vSphere CLI "error: unknown command or namespace.

I even tried connecting through my server vCenter Server and then go out to the host by using the command - vihost, that works, but I still get the error that the command I try to use it recognized.

    vSphere CLI

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\VMware vSphere CLI > esxcli - Server < servername > - username < my nickname-> password < password > vicfg - snmp.pl - Server < servername > public - c

Error: Unknown command or namespace vicfg - snmp.pl

    You must run this command from the prompt (not hull as shown above) vSphere CLI commands and make sure the bin is in your path. Otherwise that run from here;

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\VMware vSphere CLI\bin> vicfg - snmp.pl - Server - username - password - show

  • Running the command using the vSphere CLI

I installed the vSPhere CLI on my workstation but can't seem to execute commands.

My ESX hosts are managed by a host vCenter.

    C:\Program VMware vSphere CLI\bin & gt; esxcli - 10.15.0.11 - user name of server localadmin - password XXXXXXX swiscsi add - n vmk0 d vmhba32

    Makes me:

Connect to 10.15.0.11 failed: authorization to perform this operation was refused.

You use an account that has permission to update the configuration of ESX host?  Of the error, it looks like a permission problem.

In addition, your syntax can be disabled, try this:

[VI Toolkit] C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware vSphere CLI\bin> .\esxcli.exe --serer esxi40-1.primp-industries.com --username root swiscsi nic add --nic vmk1 --adapter vmhba33
    Enter password:

(it worked on our development configuration)

  • On the DPM (Distributed Power Management) in VMware vSphere

    Dear Sir.

    As the description below URL.

    http://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/drs_datasheet.PDF

Could you explain how DPM works on the server?

I want to say how does VMware ESX control the power consumption of the server?

    Kind regards

    Charles

    Charles,

DPM does not resemble the power consumption of an ESX Server, but it leans on the CPU load and memory. "VMware Distributed Power Management (DPM) continually optimizes energy consumption in the data center. When virtual machines in a DRS cluster need less resources, such that during the nights and weekends, DPM consolidated on fewer servers and the rest goes off to reduce energy consumption, the workloads. When VM resource needs increase (for example when users log in applications in the morning), DPM brings guests powered down online to ensure service levels are met. "For more information, see VMware vSphere VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) .

P2V is possible NFB free esxi edition, no problem. You can also manage via vsphere client where you'll have GUI and you create VMS with vsphere client that connects to the ESXi host.

But it cannot be managed by vcenter to get the functionality as HA, DRS, vMotion, models etc.

As you have mentioned that you have pretty much a box with VM sound your decision to go with free or licensed.

If you go with free version of ESXi, you can have only 32 GB vRAM right. This means that if your physical machine have more than 32 GB of RAM can also create virtual machine with no more than 32 GB of RAM.

If you decide to go for licenses of its better to choose more essential rather than vsphere standard edition.

As essential or essential more is a group package which also come with 192 GB of vRAM, with a maximum power of 3 home with 2 processor and a vcenter license. Cost is lower than vsphere standard edition.

  • Has no virtual power on new Machine on vSphere 4.1

    Dear Expert VMware,

I just installed a vSphere 4.1 on Blade 460c G5. Installation to function normally with an error.

After that, I prepare a HP workstation as Center of VM. I installed vCenter and Vsphere Client on the workstation.

With vSphere Client, I created a Virtual Machine. Then I tried to power on, but I couldn't.

The error message says "expired license". Here is the attachment.

I am a newbie in this world of VMware. I bought it:

    1. license key for VMware vSphere 4 Enterprise more 1 (Max 12 per processor core) processor-> I installed this license on blade 460c G5

    2. license key of VMware vCenter Server 4 Foundation for up to 3 hosts vSphere-> I installed this license on HP workstation.

Any body can help me on this problem, please? Are there any missing installtion stage I have?

    Please help me...

    Thank you

    Kind regards

    -feri-

The license that you should enter in the host is "Business Plus". The vCenter Server license is required for the server management software that you can install on a Windows/VM of vCenter server. In case you have a vCenter Server running, you can also enter the Server vCenter license 'Business Plus' and assign it to the ESXi host.

Now, you say you have a license for "Enterprise Plus 1 processor. How many processors are on the server? If you have two processors on the server, you would need a 2-CPU license key!

Out of curiosity, why did you buy vCenter Server Foundation with just 1 Enterprise Plus license?

  • Satellite R840-139 - Power led blinks

    Hello
Sorry for my bad English :-).

a computer whose power LED flashes orange. I tried to read the error code is 01001010 = 4 Ah. I think my computer has a bit of a shock, but I'm not sure. It would be a failure but 3V but which?

I tried to press and hold the power for 30 seconds and reconnect the power supply and the battery and nothing changes. I measured the voltage charger is about 19V.

He had already put in this fashion several months ago, but has restarted.

    What can I do?

3V resembles the RAM. Try a different RAM module.
If it still does not respond, it may be a faulty motherboard.

  • Satellite Pro L650 turns off after start; DC In and Power LEDs blink on stop

A friend Satellite Pro L650 having worked well until yesterday, all of a sudden turned itself off. Now, at startup, it lights up normally for about 10-15 seconds before turning off suddenly. Turned off, the DC in white/blue LED and the orange Power LED Flash on a broad set of intervals of approximately one second. This extinction happens if I leave Windows or press F2 to enter the BIOS setup.

I guess this blinking is intended to serve as a kind of diagnostic code, but I have yet to track down what it means. Can anyone help?

To avoid confusion, power without the product stack the same, sudden stop experience, except the two LEDs remain solidly lit this time. With or without battery, trying to turn on again immediately after that a shutdown produced no response at all. Remove the power cable and immediately it reconnect again and turn then produced a brutal power off, but in less than 5 seconds. More wait between attempts to market seems to give a little longer powered on State, but without fault, the machine turns off just suddenly. With its short time 'turned on' we are talking, there cannot be any kind of thermal protection?

I had an old Satellite L450D lying around that uses coincidentally the same AC PA-1750 adapter, but use it made no difference. Of course, the battery does not have the L650!

The only previous numbers, that I am aware of this machine have been intermittent case of Windows reporting "Plugged in, not charging", but as my friend use it exclusively on the network, it was not a problem.

Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated...
