  We used to install our esx3.5 to a remastered cdiso which included the KS.cfg file. The kickstart file did some pre and PostScript. Network in the KS.cfg line was almost empty and the text mode dialog box appeared and claimed subnet, gateway, ip, name server. After entering data, the host name provided by dns and installation began to use an nfs share.

  The network line like this:

  network public static bootproto = 1 - vlanid = 0 - addvmportgroup -

  Now, I'm doing the same thing with esx4:

  I did a manual install of esx4 and copied the /root/ks.cfg to the esx4.iso. The line of the network has been changed to:

  network - addvmportgroup = true - device = vmnic0 - bootproto = static

  When booting from the cd menu appears and asks to select the installation mode: text, graphic, overwritevmfs,... Here I press F2 and enter ks = cdrom: / ks.cfg.

  After this, the installation program starts but throws an error: bootproto is set at static but "-ip =" was not established.  See the screenshot! This is not the behavior expected :-(.

  Does anyone here use the same installation path? This method is used here, due to not having a dhcp or pxe available.

  Hoping someone can help me! Any ideas here?

  All,

  Finally got some time to work in the % pre section to get user input.  tty1 must be used only.  I'm just grabbing IP and hostname fqdn that the rest is read from the line append pxelinux.  Using this, you need a kickstart only if your hardware is like.  Much better than the 100 right?  Only takes a few seconds to get user input.

  Here's the kickstart until the % after article which is quite normal.  A large part can be moved to if necessary % pre.

  I have no recovery disk and the latest updates installed automatically with a log off and I couldn't restart (auto install has been selectrd off the coast)

  Here is a link to how to turn the eventual automatic updates.  If after you have changed the settings for important updates and updates recommended, so let us know if you have problems.

  My Dell laptop does an automatic installation of the latest MS patches (12/08/10) and now he can't boot into windows.  All tests show that the material is fine, but an error at the end of the "bad update patch" said test results I can not even to go back to a previous restore point.  This happened to me the year last on my desk... same thing, but it's XP which could not start after an automatic update for the Member States.  Dell technical support told me that MS knows what is happening, but it is not supposed to be public knowledge.  I need to know if there is a fix, in addition to erase everything and do a complete reinstallation of the operating system.

  Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.

  Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

  Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

  If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

  Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

  Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

  At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

  When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

  I understand that you have a HP LaserJet Pro P1102w printer that connects three thin devices via the USB port, but you can not perform a wireless installation on a fourth device, equipped of Windows Vista 32-bit, because the PC does not detect the printer via the USB port.
