  I have a Mac, Yosemite 10.10.4 running version. I was doing a pop-up message on Firefox indicating that my automatic update has failed. Today, I had to manually update to Firefox 39.0. I am also running Avast Anti-virus for Mac.

  I've been running FF 10.0.2 for awhile and just told him a Web site that I have 14 FF or FF 15 clocked. I've always had the automatic update on, but obviously it does not work. I've now been 'check updates' on the channel of update, with no result after be connected for more than 1/2 hour.
