  • No option to boot from the CD/DVD-ROM in the BIOS

    Hi all

I was pleased to receive my computer H8-1485EA this week!

I entered the BIOS setup by (by pressing F10) to allow booting from a device of type CD. I changed the boot order so that my DVD SATA drive was the head of the list. When I tried to boot from a CD, I got a starting message startup security protection has been activated and prevented me to boot from the CD. I entered the BIOS again and disabled security start-up (by entering a code) and booted from the CD. Unfortunately the I was booting from a disk to answer stopped, so I ejected it.

Some time later, I decided to reactivate security startup in the BIOS. I did it successfully, however, my SATA DVD drive has disappeared from my list of boot device. It is still detected by the BIOS and will appear in the Windows Device Manager. It is also absent from the startup list when I press F9 to start.

All the tips are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This may not apply to your case, but here goes: I about went crazy looking for the (HP Envy Phoenix) option in the UEFI BIOS to boot from my Blueray disc. I tried to put the Blueray disc to start first in the boot order, but I couldn't find that he listed in the BIOS. (My computer is 2 days old, straight from the factory. Reads Blueray disc under the operating system very well). Turns out I had to insert a floppy in the Blueray to energize, then restart the computer, then go into the BIOS and - magically - BIOS now showed my Blueray and I was able to boot from it.  (In the past I have configured all my computer equipment statically in the BIOS and it al showed there and he was.) I had never seen one * new * material option appears in the BIOS that did not previously exist. That is until I met the Phoenix BIOS)

    Hi Yolega20,

Well, the DVD drive seems to work otherwise? You have all other bootable discs you can try, such as the Dell drivers and Utilities disc?

  • (Redirected) Cannot boot from the HARD drive on dell n5010 with SSD and HARD drive installed

I have my old dell n5010 (15R Inspiron) with SSD (Samsung EVO 840 120 G) installed on the main drive Bay and the HDD (Samsung HJJ 500 G) on the optical drive Bay.

It is a typical way to add an SSD on such an old laptop (bought from dell.com.cn in 2011).

My Windows 10 operating system has been installed on the SSD using Samsung Data Migration software, so the previous C drive was pointless. So I formatted and installed an operating system Ubuntu 14.04 on it, hoping the grub OSs double beginning located on the HARD disk.

However, I find no the Dell bios boot option to boot from the HARD drive installed in my optical drive Bay. All the choices are 'Hard Drive', 'Network' and 'Diagnostic '.

But I was definitely sure that my bios program has detected the SSD and HDD with information on the main menu of the bios.

And the LED on the optical drive Bay was immediately once I pressed the Start button on my laptop.

As a general rule, all things were right except for options of the bios boot.

Is there a way I can boot from HDD (with installed Ubuntu) while remaining has my SSD on the main drive Bay? I don't want to swap their positions, because the SSD is super fast on the main drive Bay.

I have alse won't migrate 10 Windows to the HARD drive and reinstall Ubuntu on the SSD, because I'd like my windows be loaded quickly.

Someone at - it the same problem with me?

    Any suggestion is appreciated!

    Hi the prey,

    ·         What is the brand and model of the computer?

You should check the settings of the computer BIOS (Basic Input\Output System) to boot from the CD/DVD. Check the manual or the support of the computer Web site for the same.

Note: Be careful when you change the BIOS settings. The BIOS interface is designed for advanced users, and it is possible to change a setting that can prevent your computer from starting properly.

Run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if your computer is compatible to install Windows 7.

  • I restart the computer and changed the BIOs to boot from the CD. So as usual, I'm prompted to press any key to start from the CD or DVD.

Hello Comunity Microsoft :D My name is Mike and I built a gaming pc. Everything was going well for the first 3 days, but now I have a few crashes very violent. Speakers in loop and buzz and screen lock. I have to completely shut down to go back to a working state. I did everything I could possibly think of to solve this problem, but I can't.

Then. on the problem. Today, I decided that I was able to solve all the problems by reinstalling windows. I had my keys together and put the disc in. I restart the computer and changed the BIOs to boot from the CD. So as usual, I'm prompted to press any key to start from the CD or DVD. I do and I get normal loading windows files, and at the end of this road, I get the Welcome screen in windows7 with no option and a fat slider. I don't have the little box that tells me that I can fix my computer or reinstall windows, NOTHING. Just to isolate the problem, try to download a new copy of Windows 7, and then try again:

For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.

It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.

Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options? See the article for more details:

How to: What are my options for Windows 7 reinstall media?

Make sure you scroll down and read the section:

What to do if you cannot get your manufacturer recovery media, refuse to use or to buy it or the Microsoft Software Recovery Website does not work?

Regarding problems with the computer itself, try to disconnect all nonessential equipment attached to it to see if the problem persists.

I would also try switching around components such as modules of memory to see if the problem persists.

I would also check to make sure that all components are mounted and installed correctly.

    Hi dynamitenews

    1. are you able to boot to the desktop?
    2. what happens when you try to start the computer?

You must have the DVD drive to start the computer using the disk, you cannot use the external hard drive to do the same thing.

Also I suggest you to make sure you have defined the start as CD/DVD-Rom as the first choice option in the BIOS. See below the help link-
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/BIOS-frequently-asked-questions

If nothing is done, then you can contact the manufacturer support for assistance on setting up the correct boot sequence and check.

  • Trying to remove virus format hard drive - when booting from the Windows XP CD, don't teach me to press a button to proceed with the installation?

Trying to remove virus, need to format the hard drive to remove all programs to remove the virus.  I ran several security programs which has not found a virus.  Taken at Best Buy, they ran their programs, could not detect viruses, but said there are something certainly on my system.  System is pegged almost 100% all the time, so I can't really use the pc.

Reinstalling the operating system is usually not necessary to remove the malware, but if you're convinced that this is necessary (it is sometimes), this guide is a good:

    http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

(this assumes that you have the appropriate Windows XP installation CD)

Of course, you will need to boot from the CD instead of the hard drive. This page explains that:

    http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

You also need to install the hardware drivers. I hope that you have them on CD, too. If this is not the case, the web site of the manufacturer of PC should have them.

Since a clean install wipes EVERYTHING, you should have all your data copied beforehand.

  • NB510 - boot from the SD card?

    Hello

I have a question related to booting from SD cards.
As my NB510 has no optical device, I thought to use an SD with Linux on it to boot from.

The reason is that sometimes I need Linux and I don't wan to lose my Windows partition or another partition of my HDD with a 2nd OS.

My experience is that more than one OS at a disk always causes unnecessary trouble.
Unfortunately, it seems that the NB510 does not boot from the SD card.

I created it with the Toshiba SD Memory Format Utility and "UNetbootin" to create a card with the last OpenSUSE Linux.

When, in from the laptop and press F2 (or F12), all available drives be filed - but not my SD card (Yes, it was inserted). BIOS Insyde H2O also doesn't seem to provide the SD card as boot drive.

So is it possible to get my NB 510 booting from SD card?

    Greetings from the Germany

    Hello

Why you boot from the USB flash key t n?
As much as I know the NB510 support the start of disk HARD primary, Network (LAN), USB, USB HDD and USB WEIRD memory.

If booting from USB is certainly possible.

I also have uppdated the bios, but nothing changes.

'Notebook multibay shoes' should work - the CD is installed in the multi-baies slot.
