Back Up Lightroom Catalog and pictures on an external drive.

I'm curious to know why Adobe does not provide a solution to quick and easy backup on an external HD, cloud or even a DVD. Currently the options I am aware of is when you import, you can choose to make a copy, but my guess is that other changes to these files reflect the copy you made at the time of import. When closing the program that the backup appears to only copy the data of the catalogue and not pictures and while it's beautiful... is not good enough.

But it's a part of what can make your OS, and that's what can make many many third-party utilities.

the history of Lightroom indicates that developers of Lightroom and the team do not want to spend time to reproduce some BONES or the features of the third-party backup utility. Some people have been crying out for a Lightroom with a browser of files (instead of Lightroom as a database) from day 1, and so far, we see no sign that Lightroom will never receive the functionality of a file browser. I consider the request to add photo backup to be of the same category, something that I'm skeptical that Adobe will never.

  • How can I move my LR catalog AND originals on an external drive?

    I use LR6 with a MBP 500 GB.

I want to assure you that I have my LR catalog and its corresponding original files on an external drive. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

You move the catalog file and photos using your operating system on the new hard drive.

You keep the folder hierarchy and structure EXACTLY the same on the new hard drive. Do NOT take this as an opportunity to "clean up" the structure of folders or to make things of a folder.

You double-click the catalog file, and then reconnect the photos in Lightroom using these instructions: Adobe Lightroom - find folders and files moved or missing (see Figure 4)

  • I want to copy my lightroom catalog and photos of the hard disk to another.

I want to copy my lightroom catalog and photos of the hard disk to another. I tried to use the copy and paste, but when I try to open the catalog on my laptop lightrooom cannot find the photos because he is always looking for them on the old hard drive. How can I get lightroom to get on the new drive? When I try to manually connect the photos they disappear just from any folder, they are in Lightroom.

    Hi Mike Nature.

    Greetings.

As you have already moved the catalog and the files on the hard disk up, visit this link on how to find missing images/files

I suggest you look for missing files.

The images do not disappear, but after the relining, they should be available under the new hard drive.

  • Help... I have Adobe cc with Lightroom installed on my macbook and iMac and photos on an external drive... but

I edited several photos with lightroom and this external hard drive via my macbook pro. When I unplug my external drive and connect to my iMac and import a folder (no copy and move), none of my edits are here! or the sides. I can see all the photos of perfectly fine, but how do I get my cc in lightroom on my iMac to see my photos as they have been published on my instance mackook of cc in lightroom? They are certainly on the drive? I don't want to put this folder of images into space cloud that I have not the download speed or space provided. Any help appreciated.

The changes are saved in the catalog, not for pictures.

So to see the changes on both computers, you will need to keep the file containing the LR catalog and previews on the external hard drive.

Use the Finder to copy this folder since the Macbook pro hard disk external. It is usually located inside the images folder or similar.

Now make sure you always open the catalog from the external drive. To avoid confusion you can rename the catalog if you like, you then have to rename the folder seen accordingly. Make sure you do it with closed Lightroom. You can launch LR by double-clicking the file catalog.

Please help... I dunno what to do one day, I came home from work and my new about sony vaio desktop has been frozen, so I rebooted and now I have this message when I try to start and I do not have a vista disc or a recovery disc and am worried my lost data as I do not know how to save at this point because I can't even in the windows operating system Vista.  can someone help me please?

We must believe the error message telling you that your hard drive is about to fail. If you are not technically proficient, take the machine to a local computer technician who will try to back up your data and then replace the hard drive. Do not use a type of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad of the place. Otherwise, you may be able to get the data saved by one of the methods below and replace the hard drive yourself.

1 remove the drive and put it in a box of USB drive or use a USB adapter. Attach it to a computer that is running a working XP/Vista/Windows7 installation. Use the work of Windows Explorer to copy the data to the hard drive of the system to the rescue and burn data on cd or dvd. I prefer not to do it if I know the drive is infected because he has a chance to infect your host system. In these cases, I use #2 below.

    2. you can start the target computer with a Bart PE (if you use XP) or a Linux live CD like Knoppix and retrieve the data in this way. General information about the use of Knoppix for this are:

You will need a computer with two cd records, one of which is an engraver of CD/DVD OR a USB thumb drive with sufficient capacity to store your data, OR an external hard drive formatted USB FAT32 (not NTFS) *. Download Knoppix .iso image file and create your bootable CD. If you do this in a previous (XP or Vista) operating system, you will need the third burning like Nero, Roxio or the free ImgBurn software (Windows 7 can burn .isos natively). Burn as an image, not in the form of data. Then boot with the CD that you created, and Knoppix will be able to see the files in Windows. If you use the USB key or an external hard disk, right-click on its icon (on the desktop) to get its properties and uncheck "read only". Then click on it to open it. Note that the mouse action by default in the window manager used by Knoppix (KDE) is a simple click to open instead of double-click traditional MS Windows. If you want to burn CD/DVDs, use the K3b program.

    * My understanding is that you can now write on NTFS from Linux partition. If you wish to do this, Google for instructions on the use of the NTFS driver.

IMPORTANT - If there is no question that the drive is at fault - there are noises, for example - and the data is crucial NOTHING else ON THE DISC. Whenever launch you this player you can destroy data. If this is the case, send the drive to a professional data recovery company. I use savers by car, but there are others. General prices run from $500USD on-site. Investors recovered all disk data on a portable player that failed for one of my clients, and it cost $2 700. He thought that it was worth the money; only you know what's worth your data. I understand that some insurance companies now cover fresh data recovery so check with yours.

  • Adding SSD to my Mac Pro, where should I put Lightroom Catalog and previews?

About to add a SSD 512 blade to my old Mac Pro 2009.

I'll put all my apps on it for the quick start, but to move my user files to a drive of spinning to keep the SSD as lean as possible for maximum speed. Guess I can put the LR catalog and previews on the SSD? Can I keep in the users > pictures > Lightroom folder structure or I need to do something different? Everything I need to know to make sure I'm harnessing the power of the 512GB SSD with Lightroom and Photoshop?

  • Copy of Lightroom Catalog (and a bit more)

I am a newbie to Lightroom and quickly realized that I needed a better PC to make it the most.

Now I want to copy my old laptop WIn Vista to Win 7 machine Lightroom. I tried to extract the catalog, but he returned and said that all previews are missing.

My situation is this, all my RAW files are in a directory, and Lightroom is in a different directory, if I understand correctly, Lightroom does not touch the RAW files, but instead has only a 'list of changes' to do, so I guess my problem was - not able to find the RAW files, because they weren't in the Lightroom folder.

On my new PC, I want to rationalize things, like Lightroom will be my main tool for processing the photos now. Someone can give me some tips on how to get the data from my laptop and save it in the directory of Lightroom on my new PC?

    Thank you :-) in anticipation

    Steve

    Welcome!

Let's see... first: the copy of your catalog is very easy.  Just copy it as you would any other file.  He is happy like that.  No real reason to perform the export catalog and import catalog operations.

Your previews is not found, probably because you copy them.  Unless you have already a few 50 000 images in LR, I wouldn't bother.  Just tell LR to regenerate all the extracted when you are on your new machine.  I personally generate previews 1:1 when you import.  Under the library-> previews-> make it what you want.

There are a number of things, if you move your imags from one computer to another:

If you copy your images to the same exact path as before, then LR is automatically, since the refernce is stored in the catalog.  If you put them somewhere else (for example, you do not force-name your drive letter and she chose another) then complain LR (put a? mark in lists) saying that it can't find the image.  Just click right on the library page, on the top level for your missing images and tell LR folder to find them again.  It will allow you to navigate to the new location, and when select you, will connect it back up with everything below it as well.  easy!

If you want to "rationalize" things, you can organize your images a little differently.  Almost everyone will have a different option, you can count on that.  I import by date, and my format is major_catagory-> year-> year_mon-> year_mon_day-> (images) that the 'major_catagory' has been added recently, so I might have things like portraits, nature, industrial, etc., as well as separate structures, but still allow research on the entire database.  I use not having until I wanted a more easy way out just to the structure of a file, etc.  Still not sure if it's best for me, but it works for now.

When I import images, they automatically go into the right folder structure, I just need to select the top-level project.  Then when I do the editing and others, I do collections to group them in everything what I need.  Don't forget keywords!  Unfortuantely now, the window import always reset to "none", so you must manually reset the keywords, etc., to import.  You can create a user-defined set, but remember to select.  Previous versions of remind you lasted... like I could which selects again!

Anyway, you will find many opinions here... use the keywords and collections... who will help a lot.

    See you soon!

  • Why has Lightroom copied my pictures from my external hard drive to my drive internal while the import?

I loaded all my photos on an external hard drive, created a new catalog and imported into Lightroom CC. However, there, without checking the book 'copy' copied all the pictures imported on my internal drive and they also linked in this way. Is it possible to ask Lightroom to just link the photos on my external hard drive?

If you want pictures to stay where they are on the import, you must specify "Add", not "Move" or "copy".

  • Lightroom Catalog and preview files on the external SSD using Thunderbolt?

I own an iMac 21 with a regular construction in the hard drive. The RAW files, back ups are on external hard drives.

It would make sense (speed wise) to put my catalog on an external SSD connected via thunderbolt?

My catalog is about 1, 7 GB of big, with glimpses lightroom now use about 40 GB.

I think to an SSD 128 GB dedicated to lightroom.

Would it be a good idea? Or simply be money down the drain?

    Any comments would be welcome.

Read and write in the catalog will be faster than things like scroll thumbnails and switching modules. Glimpses of the building, etc. see very little improvement. This test should give you an idea where things will be better http://www.computer-darkroom.com/blog/will-an-ssd-improve-adobe-lightroom-performance/

  • Still trying to open the Lightroom Catalog and stops

I tried to import a picture from a file on my computer. The Lightroom 3.6 Lightroomstopworking.JPG program stops.  When I try to open the program, a message appears that says "Lightroom - opening catalog: DSC_2155.lrcat.

Immediately after that that appears on my screen, that a box appears that says "Adobe Photoshop has stopped working" below to bed "a problem caused blocking the program works correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. »

Of course I never am notified and a solution is never available.  I tried to delete Lightroom and reloading the program, but the same problem occurs.

is there a way to fix this?

Looks like you have moved your images on the external disk outside LR by using your OS tools. (This is not necessarily a bad thing.)

Now, you just need to tell LR where you moved the images, the use of the files LR Panel.
