SMART failure provided on hard disk 2: WDC WD 3200AAJS-55RY-AO (S1) __WARNING: IMMEDIATELY back up your data and replace your hard disk drive failure can be immenent

Please help... I dunno what to do one day, I came home from work and my new about sony vaio desktop has been frozen, so I rebooted and now I have this message when I try to start and I do not have a vista disc or a recovery disc and am worried my lost data as I do not know how to save at this point because I can't even in the windows operating system Vista.  can someone help me please?

We must believe the error message telling you that your hard drive is about to fail. If you are not technically proficient, take the machine to a local computer technician who will try to back up your data and then replace the hard drive. Do not use a type of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad of the place. Otherwise, you may be able to get the data saved by one of the methods below and replace the hard drive yourself.

1 remove the drive and put it in a box of USB drive or use a USB adapter. Attach it to a computer that is running a working XP/Vista/Windows7 installation. Use the work of Windows Explorer to copy the data to the hard drive of the system to the rescue and burn data on cd or dvd. I prefer not to do it if I know the drive is infected because he has a chance to infect your host system. In these cases, I use #2 below.

2. you can start the target computer with a Bart PE (if you use XP) or a Linux live CD like Knoppix and retrieve the data in this way. General information about the use of Knoppix for this are:

You will need a computer with two cd records, one of which is an engraver of CD/DVD OR a USB thumb drive with sufficient capacity to store your data, OR an external hard drive formatted USB FAT32 (not NTFS) *. Download Knoppix .iso image file and create your bootable CD. If you do this in a previous (XP or Vista) operating system, you will need the third burning like Nero, Roxio or the free ImgBurn software (Windows 7 can burn .isos natively). Burn as an image, not in the form of data. Then boot with the CD that you created, and Knoppix will be able to see the files in Windows. If you use the USB key or an external hard disk, right-click on its icon (on the desktop) to get its properties and uncheck "read only". Then click on it to open it. Note that the mouse action by default in the window manager used by Knoppix (KDE) is a simple click to open instead of double-click traditional MS Windows. If you want to burn CD/DVDs, use the K3b program.

* My understanding is that you can now write on NTFS from Linux partition. If you wish to do this, Google for instructions on the use of the NTFS driver.

IMPORTANT - If there is no question that the drive is at fault - there are noises, for example - and the data is crucial NOTHING else ON THE DISC. Whenever launch you this player you can destroy data. If this is the case, send the drive to a professional data recovery company. I use savers by car, but there are others. General prices run from $500USD on-site. Investors recovered all disk data on a portable player that failed for one of my clients, and it cost $2 700. He thought that it was worth the money; only you know what's worth your data. I understand that some insurance companies now cover fresh data recovery so check with yours.

You can download the program for diagnotics HUtil Samsung http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/downloads/Hutil210_iso_for_CDROM_drive.zip

It's an ISO image then unzip the file and write the ISO image to a CD.

Then restart the PC and booting with the CD. To do this, you must change the priority/boot order in the BIOS to boot from the CD first.

Once you have started the program HUtil it will detect your hard drive Samsung. Select the hard disk.

Enter the main Menu on the tool. Go into the menu of the tool and enter Auto diagnosis. Enable diagnostics to run, once done it will ask you if you want to perform a surface analysis - enter Yes. The analysis of surface will take some time to complete. If errors are found, it reported.

Once more I recommend you backup your data as soon as possible, preferably before executing HUtil program.

For more information on the program of HUtil you can go here: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/utilities/Support_HUTIL.html

Write when the cache is enabled: when data are written back to the hard drive, it is written in the cache that is much faster to actually write to the hard drive. An acknowledgement of receipt is then sent by saying that the data has been written on the hard disk, when in fact it does not. In this way so that the data is actually being written to the hard drive to the rest of the system can continue to work. However memory cache is volatile, if the power goes off, the data in the cache is destroyed and if it has not been written to disk hard and yet he's lost.

If your settings are correct. Usually the drives are configured for performance and the write cache is enabled. While flash drives and memory cards are configured for the fast-moving and write cache is disabled.

    Hey, @sumukhreddy!

I'm really sorry to hear about your WD drive problems. However, I recommend you to use Data LifeGuard Diagnostics from WD (DOS version) to test again and check on the health and the SMART State it. The DOS version of the utility will allow you to perform diagnostics without having to boot into any operating system. You should be able to find under downloads by product once you select WD Caviar Blue.  You can extend the WD software link and follow the instructions.

The drive is OEM and most likely came with your laptop, so I recommend you to contact the manufacturer and check the warranty of your laptop. It is always covered, you can RMA and they should be able to provide a repair and the implementation of the defective material.

Good luck! I hope I've been helpful! :)

  • Re: Satellite A210-10Y - disk SMART failure

    Hello

I am the proud owner of a Satellite A210-10Y. (160 GB HDD).

This morning I get an error message during boot: SMART drive predicted failure. Back up all data and press F1.

After some research here, I downloaded the tool form hdtune.com.

This returned value the result that everything was OK, but for the "reallocated sector count".
    The values are:
    49/worst 49/threshold 50/data-925/situation has FAILED.

However, when I use the analysis of the error by HDTUNE, all fields appear in green as "ok".

What is the problem with my hard drive? It's going pretty slow all of a sudden...

Can I do to solve this problem?
Do you know if its possible to return the drive to Toshiba and get a new one? I have this computer for 13 months.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hey Buddy

I m the Satellite U400 owner and suddenly a SMART HARD disk error message appeared on my screen too and the laptop could not start and could not find the HARD drive.
I closed the laptop computer and rebooted again finally the HARD drive has been detected correctly and the error message disappeared.

I discovered that this error can appear if the laptop has been moved or shaken before turning on.
This may affect the functionality of the HARD drive and the S.M.A.R.T (self-monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) reports a HARD drive error.

However, this error may appear if a real HARD disk failure has been detected
In such cases, it s necessary and desirable to back up data from the HARD drive because it can happen that you HDD might die in the near future

However, if the HARD drive was dying and laptop computer s guarantee would be always available you can contact ASP in your country for replacement.
You should also know that these issues are not uncommon and that sooner or later each HARD drive would die because of constraints of HARD drive.

  • Bad hard disk/drive

I ran a refreshment on computer, and when it restarted I got not to install updates in order to upgrade to Win 8.1. Then, I received a message saying that Windows 'detects a hard drive problem. He also said that the hard drive has failed and to immediately back up my files and repair disc. I had previously saved all my files, so there is nothing on the computer at the time that I need. ? Its kind

difficult to do anything anyone sometimes because Windows is so

unresponsive, so I was reset the computer back to factory settings in order to get online. I ran a reset yesterday and tomorrow

It will be very slow and Windows will not respond. So my question is, have saved all that needs to be saved, how can I solve the problem with the defective drive?

Where should I go from here? And what could bring it in the first place? I am always so careful. Any input would be really appreciated. So thank you and have a nice day.  (My computer is a Toshiba Satellite C855)

Unfortunately, no. You have bad sectors, and a bad sector is essentially a set of data on the disk HARD cannot be read because it is 'damaged '. CHKDSK attempts to move forward and take the data of these bad sectors and move them into blocks of work, but sometimes it is not possible due to the huge amount of bad sectors.

Bad sectors are a normal part of having a mechanical drive, and they are inevitable and occur over time how attentive that you are. Bad sectors can be caused by malware to something as simple as an incorrect/unexpected shutdown during a reading/writing data, etc..

Also, once you start getting bad sectors, it only gets worse and fast. It's not worth risking it remaining on the disc. It's smart to save the data that you want to keep (if any) and replace the disk.

    Kind regards

    Patrick

The message of the Toshiba HDD application alert is as follows:

Your HARD drive is facing a problem and CHIP controlling the software predicts that the HARD drive will fail. Toshiba strongly recommends that you create a backup for the data on your HARD drive. I ordered a new HARD drive to replace the failed HDD (can't be bothered p * ssing all with the support of the RMA and tech).

However, is it possible to repair the old HDD once it's been deleted? If I have the reformat, it would do anything, or is it more serious than that?

    Hello

What should do? Back up all your data as soon as possible. You have created recovery DVD?
If this is not the case, do. When you redeem your laptop HARD drive, you can use this recovery disc to install the operating system and have once again the factory settings.

What is with guarantee s notebook? I mean that if the warranty is still valid, you can request service Toshiba to replace HARD drive.

  • Satellite P215 get SMART failure on hard drive

    Hello

I've had my laptop for a year now, and just recently, I noticed everything using that everything has become much slower and more something else that I couldn't run as much multitasking I could before without the screen freeze and have to wait until he gets treated. The level of multitasking is not serious, I mean that a laptop of this caliber should be able to have a streaming of youtube video play without problem as both messenger and Microsoft Word have. Recently, it has been quite frustrating and makes me want to throw computer laptop in the room, but I persevere. Moreover, I also realized that the game I used to play works is no longer (I wonder if it's the same question)

I formatted the hard drive and installed windows vista (with the CD that was given to me when I bought the computer) and the first time he had actually installation problems I had to do it twice. The second time it has installed fine and it worked for a week and then it started to slow down terribly again.

After restart the computer message popped up indicating SMART: failure on hard drive Hitachi-(s1) 4, so I followed the instructions given by another thread with a similar problem. I tried the hitachi Drive Fitness Test and the program would not even load, it would get to the point where it says «Loading DFT»... ' and he would just stay there... I guess that is not compatible with Vista or something.

What can I do in addition to evidence of the replacement of the hard drive? The cause of the downturn from the computer to the bass and the game does not work because of the HD about to fail? If there is a way to solve this problem, I would like to know

    Thank you
    Michael

In my view the HARD disk, you should be exchanged and Yes, it could be the reason why the computer slows down, and some games do not work.
I had the same problem a few years ago on my desktop PC computer is very slow and I can t install a game. Whenever I tried it, I got a BSOD. Then I switched the HARD drive and everything worked very well.

I put t know why the Drive Fitness Test does not start on your computer, but if you get a SMART error HARD drive should be exchanged permanently.

If your laptop is under warranty, you must contact an ASP. Then the repair should be free.

    Good luck!
