Backup and the RAC database

Hello

I was wondering that if I have a (10g) 2-node RAC database, the database is in noarchivelog mode. Is it possible that I can do a cold upward on one instance while the other instance still works?

Thank you
Chau

It is not a (consistent) backup cold if the other node is still in place and available. When you try to back up the other node, the CNS will not work with the current SNA. Maybe you can put the other node in "read only" mode while you perform a cold backup on the other node? Haven't tried, but just a suggestion. Is there a particular reason you want to make a backup of cold? RMAN works very well.

  • backup and restore of database

    Hello

    I did a backup and restore of database and now I need to restore the database again.
    For the backup of database I've used the following:
    SQL
    {stop immediately;
    bootable media;
    ALTER database archivelog;
    }
    database altered
    RMAN

    backup database;

    to restore the database, I used:

    RMAN
    {stop immediately;
    bootable media;
    until ' to_date (March 26, 2009 09:15:11 ',' dd-mm-yyyy hh24:mi:ss') ";
    restore the database;
    recover the database;
    }

    SQL > alter database open resetlogs;

    And as I said I would now like to restore this backup once again.
    Can someone help me with this?

    Thank you

    You could adapt the following script by changing the dbid, location of the control file and the incarnation of the database:

    shutdown abort;
    startup nomount;
    set dbid=2557871973;
    restore controlfile from 'D:\BACKUP\RMAN\C-2557871973-20090326-00';
    alter database mount;
    reset database to incarnation 8;
    run
    {
    set until time "to_date('26-03-2009 09:15:11', 'dd-mm-yyyy hh24:mi:ss')";
    restore database;
    recover database;
    }
    alter database open resetlogs;

    I have successfully run this script several times with Oracle XE (10.2.0.1).

  • Was a backup, and the only file created was mediaID.bin.

    Title of the Moose: I ran a backup and the only file created was mediaID.bin.  That all my personal files, but also the backup system files contain?

    I am running Win 7.  I chose to let Windows choose the files, but I thought he said that personal folders could be saved.  Not sure if.  If this .bin file contains everything, I can choose just to restore personal files from it?  I am naïve.

    I saved on a flash drive.  When the backup finished the only file in the Explorer was mediaid.bin, but when I reinserted the drive he showed several zip files and those that do not contain my personal backups, so all is well!  Sorry for the problems with my idiocy!

  • Company of Mgr 12 lost connection to the RAC databases after the restart of the EM

    This last weekend, we restarted our main production RAC database (name = prod, instances = prod1 and prod2) and our certification test RAC database (name = cert, instances = cert1 and cert2).

    These databases have been put up and work OK as a target in MS 12 c for a few months.  However, I was not able to connect to these databases into EM yesterday, so I rebooted the server database repository EM both of EM application server.

    As of today, I can connect to the web console of EM successfully, and I can bring up our databases not CARS.  But if I try to put in place either of our CARS (prod or cert) databases, or if I try to put in place a specific instance prod1, prod2 or cert1, cert2, I get errors like this:

    IO error: the network adapter could not establish the connection

    The connection descriptor was (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp) (HOST = nhaoranla - oracle.nha.local)(PORT=1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = cert1) (SERVER = DEDICATED)))

    The server nhaoranla where cert1 database instance.  We use the standard port 1521 for all targets.

    Two CARS of prod and cert authorities are running, and user applications are able to connect to the two bodies.

    I have not changed anything in EM.  The only difference with last week's restart.

    I tried to restart the server applications EM once again, but that solves nothing, I get the same error.

    Any suggestions or bugs that are known for this problem would be appreciated.

    Figured out what the problem was... TCP error message indicated it was looking for nhaoranla - oracle.nha.local , but I nhaoranla-oracle in/etc/hosts on the server to OEM applications.

    Lesson learned... If you add databases to the OEM through node discovery, initially, it could work, but it will fail when you restart your server OEM if you don't have good (complete) entries in/etc/hosts.

  • How to work the optimization backup and the backup retention period?

    I'm a little confused on how these 2 features will work together.

    Incase I enabled optimization backup and have retention backup value someday. Then I have this tablespace 'users', which is read-only. Please let me know if my understanding is correct.

    Date................ Action................................ Backup
    -----
    Monday... Full backup... 'users' saved
    Tuesday... Full backup... 'users' unsaved
    Wednesday... Delete Obselete... backup 'users' deleted
    Thursday... Restore database...?

    I was wondering if at Thursday I'm still able to restore the database if tablespace 'users' are deleted?

    Hello;

    Someday - the retention value, it is much too low. You may lose more than your example of demand. Set the highest. (Start with 2 or 3 and test, test, test)

    How backup works of optimization in what concerns the retention policy?

    RMAN only works with files during the retention period.

    For example, consider a backup optimization with a retention period of 5 days.

    RMAN will only compare the data file with backup within the period of 5 days games - even if the data file it as backup has not changed in this 5 days.

    So be very careful. Given your political retention is so low, I would not use optimization.

    I was wondering if at Thursday I'm still able to restore the database if tablespace 'users' are deleted? Very good luck, you will lose data.

    Test your period of detention inside and outside before look you at optimization.

    Best regards

  • VM backup during the race

    I have the stand alone ESX3.5. I want to save the images, while she runs so I run the snapshot and copied the file VMDK virtual machine using VMKFSTOOL - i.  It's how to have good image right? or should I use method differerent.

    It is therefore I have SQL running on esx and I want to take backup

    That's right, that you would take a snapshot on the virtual machine, which allows you to save then the VMDK while all the changes will continue to write in the delta. Once you have finished with the backup, would engage you changes and merging to the main VMDK.

    You can take a look at a script that I wrote which can help with this: http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8760

    For the SQL database or other transactional systems of ups, it is recommended that you either turn off or use VSS to ensure that all changes have been emptied on the drive before running the backup otherwise you can get data corruption. VMware VCB and other backup tools can hang in the virtual machine and make a call to vs.

  • Backups and the effectiveness of programming main HP

    I'm contemplating writing a program quite prepared for the first HP and I wonder about the effectiveness and backups.  I have several questions that I couldn't find answers to in the Guide of use or in other posts.

    (1) I understand that HP connectivity Kit will allow me to transfer programs between the emulator and the calculator back.  But is it possible to record my programs custom from the emulator on my computer?  I would like to have a backup of text files.

    Is there a way to write the text file to my laptop and then copy to the first HP?

    (2) is there any detailed info on the connectivity for the first HP HP Kit?  It is unique to the HP Premium, or is it the same thing as the other calcultors?  It is part of the package of HP Prime, or is it an additional purchase?  The User Guide is available yet?

    (3) all about programming the calculator seems inefficient.  Of programming in the emulator seems slower than if I used a dedicated text editor. (However, I remember wrote some quite long programs on the single line of my HP 41 c years.)  Is there an easy way to cut and paste the text from my computer in the emulator to test the program?

    Thank you

    Nick

    > I understand that HP connectivity Kit will allow me to transfer programs between the emulator and the calculator back.

    In fact, you don't have even the Connectivity Kit for this.  The emulator and the Calculator programs transfer directly to each other with a single press of the Send button.  You have even press reception (there is no this key), or specify where to send them to.  You press just send, and the program will appear instantly in the other first.  Cool, huh?

    > But is there a way to record my programs custom from the emulator on my computer?  I would like to have a backup of text files.

    Yes, and it's completely intuitive.  In the program editor, you just COPY EVERYTHING, then paste directly into your favorite text editor on your computer, where you can edit and/or save it as you like.  You can also transfer programs from your computer to the emulator or the calculator by copying the source code of plain text in the text editor of your computer, and then paste in the emulator or a calculator.  It couldn't be simpler.

    > Is there any detailed info on the connectivity for the first HP HP Kit?  It is unique to the HP Premium, or is it the same thing as the other calcultors?  It is part of the package of HP Prime, or is it an additional purchase?  The User Guide is available yet?

    The "HP connectivity Kit" and its documentation are on the CD that came in the first package of HP.  It's not the same program as Conn4x (the "Calculator Connectivity Kit" for the HP 48/49/50 series).

    > All about programming the calculator seems inefficient.  Of programming in the emulator seems slower than if I used a dedicated text editor. (However, I remember wrote some quite long programs on the single line of my HP 41 c years.)  Is there an easy way to cut and paste the text from my computer in the emulator to test the program?

    As mentioned above, you can easily copy the plain text source code in your favorite editor on PC and then paste it directly into the program editor is in the emulator OR the calculator.  And vice versa.

    Some text editors on PCs, such as TextPad to Helios Software, allow syntactic macros and customizable.  These tools are very useful for the first programming.

    > I realize that the connection Kit may be just a special USB cable.  Is this fair?

    In fact, it's just.  It uses the same USB cable by the calculator to recharge its battery and to communicate with the emulator.

    Hope that helps!

  • Win 7 backup and the restore failed

    I did the backup Windows for a few years to a 1 TB USB external drive. I make these for family machines. I recently added a new machine for my wife and ran out of space. I took a recycled 3 TB USB, formatted and tried to start the backup and restore. When the backup and restoration Committee came, he had all the options... I could give anything. Finally, I did something that I got an error code which lead me to discover the backup and Restore Service has been disabled. That helped, but was not able to change the disc. I downloaded a file to update the registry here and reset the backup and restore settings. Installation went through and singled out the refocused 3 TB USB drive. Has launched the backup. It ran for a few minutes and then failed with the message "the last backup was not completely successful" [not helpful] so I clicked on "More information" to find "one of the backup files could not be created. Details: The can not be performed because of an i/o device error. [not very useful.] I looked at the logs and see no error even vaguely related to this.

    No error code. No indication of what device or file. No log entry. Everything works well otherwise. Because I'm running on a single system SSD disk I am very nervous about not having a system image.  Direction/suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am somewhat a novice.

    It seems that the problem was a kind of incompatibility of Windows with the Western Digital MyBook 3TO by car.  I did CHKDSK on drives and everything was perfect, but I've always had a "IO error" totally useless is not heading the aircraft in question or explain what type of error has been encountered to the Win 7 backup process. It would have been much easier to diagnose if the WD drive had been shouted.  Also, I have no idea why the Backup and Restore Service got disabled.

    The solution (perhaps not the only) other than its use yet another USB key was to reformat the drive using a recent quick format WD utility (format Win 7 did not help) and only for the update of security for a newer driver.  Then by making a System Image backup, allowing me to point to the drive. Make a backup and a restore, then make a configuration pointing the disk.  A backup then worked.

  • Veeam Backup and the Mode of free features

    People,

    I started a support with Veeam call after the installation of their new backup and replication 4.1.1 after getting an error "free ESXi is not supported" after some troubleshooting tech me determine what level of license Info Service is listed, ESXFull, or ESXBasic. After determining that it is ESBasic they advise that we are 'free' feature mode and call the VMWare licenses.

    I'm missing somethgin here, I thougth all ESXi were free, a matter that deals with this and how do I get this to ESXFull?

    Thank you

    Free ESXi is free. It can be licensed for use with the rest of the vSphere product suite. In free mode, there are several things that are not available, including the storage API. Veeam backup uses the storage API, which means that you must have a licensed version of ESXi.
