Backup impossible vm using vcbmounter after vmware tools upgrade

Hello

I have updated the VMware tools to version 3.5.0 Build-130756 on 1 of my Windows 2003 servers. Since then, I struggle to save this virtual machine with vcb, I get the following message: "vcbmounter could not find vitual machine specified by ipaddr. Every morning, I see that this virtual machine has not been saved. I noticed that reboot/Shudown comments options are grayed out in vCenter. In order to safeguard, I have to restart the vmware tools and then stop and restart options are greyed out no longer and I can run my backup task using vcb with no problems. I tried to uninstall and then install vmware tools yesterday, but the backup did not work this morning for the same reason as the previous days.

No idea how can I fix?

Thanks in advance

Nicolas

I'm happy to hear. Thank you

  • VMware Tools upgrade changes machineID, breaks the issuance of licenses for some applications

We have this application called localization, manufactured by Hyland Software. Whenever I've upgrade VMware Tools on our ESXi hosts on all virtual machines, it breaks the granting of licenses for the application and localization will not work until the licensing is completely redone. No idea why this is happening?

Below is the reading of the application regarding the issuance of licenses, and attached is a screenshot of the error in the application. I'm certainly not asking someone to solve the problem of the application, but what on earth could possibly VMTools change that would have caused this? Thanks in advance!

If this is what is causing the problem?

I'm sure of it - about 99.9% Yes.

And if so, what changes would affect a particular software feature licenses?

"All the virtual machines have a hardware version, which shows the characteristics of virtual hardware that supports the virtual machine, such as BIOS or EFI, number of virtual slots, maximum number of processors, the maximum memory configuration and other features material." - from http://www.vmware.com/products/datacenter-virtualization/vsphere/compute.html

They probably linked the license to an individual (or several) attribute of the "hardware" of the virtual machine. Think of it regarding a physical system - changed nothing in the operating system (at least not GUID, MSN, etc.), it was something that the operating system has access to related material. You could probably bug them enough and get them to reveal madness method they use for this, but I don't know if it would be really useful. You can leave virtual to older material , to some extent, which means that you can reduce the number of times you have to repeat this process.

  • Impossible to use cs5 after Yosemite

I've updated to Yosemite and update Java, according to the guidelines, but now cannot use Photoshop cs5 and he says "and an unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred. Photoshop will leave. "I tried to install (but maybe should have uninstalled first?) and he said it has been installed, but always opens with the same message. I tried to install the update from Adobe but it could not install and in the area where it says "fix the problems below", it just says: "the installation of Photoshop 12.0.4 failed" How can I Photoshop work?

Follow these steps in an administrator account:

    Uninstall: check preferences delete.

Run the cleaning of CS use of the CC cleaning tool tool to resolve installation problems. CC, CS3 - CS6

Run disk utility to check your HARD disk and run also fix permissions.

Reinstall the CS5 and all updates.

  • Impossible to use photoshop after payment of the subscription

I had been using photoshop on a monthly subscription and I stopped it. Could not start this subscription so I paid for a new. It is now that I can't use photoshop at all. I tried to enter the old serial number to see if it would work and it did not. I have not received a new serial number for the new subscription. I also tried to download the creative cloud for photoshop install and I got an error. I don't know how to solve this problem.

I had the creative cloud to install. I used the measures given in other discussions here and those who did not. I found this on a google search and it worked. The only thing I did not has the CC Cleaner since creative cloud was never installed in the first place.

    1. reboot Windows

    2. download the creative cloud cleaning tool

3 run the cleaning of creative cloud tool and choose option 3 and then option 1 to complete the cleaning process.

    4. once please rename folder OOBE of these locations:

    Windows:

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \Common Files\Adobe

    C:\Users\ (UserName) \AppData\Local\Adobe

    5. restart Windows

    6. download creative cloud

7 run the creative Cloud file (CreativeCloudSet - Up.exe).

And it has worked very well and now Photoshop works.

  • VMWare Tools Upgrade - incomplete? by taking a lot of time... Ubuntu

I have a virtual machine that I think that the upgrade of the tools on ESXi 4 does not work properly in - Ubuntu 8.10 (2.6.27 - 11-server).

ESXi is CPU utilization after the update is started, but I see no activity in monitors performance of the virtual machine except an initial peak of the CPU.

The upgrade worked for 25 minutes now (and I left it running longer yesterday, before canceling it). I have also updated the VM (sudo apt - get install upgrade) and it have already restarted etc...

The funny thing is that my Ubuntu 8.4.01 2.6.24 - 16-virtual VM upgraded properly (as did my xubuntu virtual machine) so I'm not really sure what's going on with this particular virtual machine.

Is it possible that I can see in ESXi what he does or if it is stuck? Otherwise I'll just run as see if something changes I guess...

    Hello

VMHGFS is not required for ESX and why it may not be something of predefined. It depends on how the tools were built to begin with. Ideally, you would not not even build vmhgfs if you run in ESX.

The filesystem (vmhgfs module) driver is used only for the shared folder

feature. The rest of the software provided by VMware Tools is designed to work

    regardless of this function.

If you want the shared folders feature, you can install the driver of

running vmware-config - tools.pl again after making sure that gcc, binutils, make

and your kernel sources are installed on your computer.

These packages are available on the installation of your distribution CD.

As Barney42 pointed out, this question comes with the new kernel 3.13.0 - 46. And indeed helped me to find a workaround:

Tools can be patched manually. In vmhgfs.tar, inode.c d_alias should be replaced by d_u.d_alias put it back to the tar and then recompile tools.

Here is a script that does this (tested on ubuntu 32 bit 14.04, vmware workstation on a windows host 11.1):

    #!/bin/sh -x
    cd /usr/lib/vmware-tools/modules/source
    tar xf vmhgfs.tar
    grep -q d_u.d_alias vmhgfs-only/inode.c && echo "already patched" && exit 0
    sed -i -e s/d_alias/d_u.d_alias/ vmhgfs-only/inode.c
    cp -p vmhgfs.tar vmhgfs.tar.orig
    tar cf vmhgfs.tar vmhgfs-only
    vmware-config-tools.pl -d -m

NOTE: This makes incompatible tools with older versions of the kernel, i.e. 3.13.0 - 45.

However, @VMware-team, please do run again out of the box, or submit a patch for the Linux kernel. You are a large business, should be no problem.

  • How update the vmware tools on the guest or virtualcenter

    Hello

We run a store where we support some linux boxes.  We had some problems with time drift and other things and on our vmware guy suggested put us the version of VMWare tools on the guest or virtual Center.  The only problem is that I can't find a procedure for this.

To clarify, I'm not how to install VMWare tools on virtual machines.  We know how to do and we know to recompile after we patch the kernel.  But our guys VMWare suggests that in the end we're just recompile the same old version of VMWare tools to make it work with the new kernel.

In fact, we suspect the version we have is very old, that we have not successfully updated because we were running on 2.5 and are now running on 4.0 Update 1 (wait for the 4.1 support nexus is added).

    Thank you

    Dan

    Welcome to the forums!

So I assume you mean updating the source VMware Tools, which is then used to update VMware tools in guests?

The guy from VMware is true, recompile the tools is necessary after a kernel update has been done. It is not up-to-date version. However, you must do that to make them work again.

The latest VMware tools comes with the latest product or updates/patches for this product. Information shows that the tools are not updated after you apply this hotfix or an update.

They also can be downloaded here (for ESX 4.x) : http://www.vmware.com/patch/s3portal.portal?_nfpb=true&_windowLabel=SearchPatch&SearchPatch_actionOverride=%2Fportlets%2Fpatchupdate%2FdisplayAllBundlePatches&_pageLabel=s3portal_pages_downloadPatch_page

  • upgrade vmware tools with orchestrator

I still have many armies ESXi 3.5 although I updated my environment to ESX 4 3/4.  The task of rehabilitation for the vmware tools upgrade does not work for virtual machines running on esx 3.5.  Can orchestrator automate the task of upgrading vmware tools on a host ESX 3.5 and reboot the virtual machine.  Does anyone have an example to help out me with?  I know probably possible, but I have just install Orchestrator and did nothing with it yet.  I was thinking that this may be a task well start with.

vCO server comes with a plug-in of VC4.0 with which you can configure some hosts/VC only 4.0 and later versions. In order to run workflows on ESX 3.5 hosts, you need to install the plug-in, VI3.5 there in vCO/extras/plugins server. The file has the extension VMOAPP, you can change to .jar then check out the plugin VI3.5 .dar file. After installing correctly, you can then drill library of built-in workflow, for the category of the VMware Tools, which you can find the upgrade tools workflow. It would automate the up-gradation of the tools, as long as the toolsAutoUpdateSupported is set to true in the virtual machine. In addition, this API works successfully if the tools are not updated. For ESX 3.5 hosts, you must run the workflow in the VMS VIM3 management category.

    Hope it will be useful.
