How to stop Windows 10 Nags [was: George]

I HAVE A HP PAVILION DV7 WITH A BIG DRIVE (750 GB) WHICH WAS DIVIDED.  INSTALLED WIN 7 AND AN UPGRADE TO EARN 8.1 TO WIN 10.   MY WIFE AND I DO NOT WIN 10.   WIN 10 NOT MY PRIMARY SYSTEM AND I USE IT FOR SOME THINGS, BUT I DIDN'T NEED 2 WIN 10 SYSTEM!

HOW TO STOP MAKING BUGGY ON UPGRADE TO WIN10 ALL THE TIME?

George,

According to what you have done, it is likely the icon "Get Windows 10" to reappears.  Also, just remove the icon can't delete large files that can be downloaded to your computer to "prepare your computer for the installation of Windows 10."

If you continue to be bothered by these effects, you can use GWX http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/ Panel

  • How to stop Windows Update to force an unwanted win7 upgrade to win 10

Can someone tell me how to stop Windows Update to force an unwanted Win 7 upgrade to win 10.

Currently, I have 50 + 'important' updates pending and 3 updates "optional" (which one is ranked 10 Windows), but even with 10 Windows Update is not selected and the value "hide this update" the only option shown in Windows Update is upgrading to Windows 10.

Any attempt to install ONE of the other Win 7 or MS Office updates translates into Windows Update, saying that it is downloading Windows 10.

I would like to install updates Windows 7 (and MS Office), but given the way that Microsoft has put on several occasions customers for a forced update to win 10, I'd really rather not count on leave install Win 10 and just hope that the 'Roll Back' option really works without leaving me right where I am now.

  • How to stop Windows Update to take keyboard focus, when you are asked "do you want to restart now?

Windows Update often wants to restart the computer after an update.  If you say "not now" (or ignore?), he will later pop up a question "reboot now?" in a bubble of task bar.  INCREDIBLY, it will at that time take keyboard focus of everything that happens and then accept what he gets as a response from the user.  This means that if the user was in the middle of typing something, the following sequence of keys will enter the bubble "you want to restart" instead of some request the user was in the middle of the help.  It's very bad.

Here is what just happened to me.  I was in the middle of typing a document when the keyboard focus was suddenly taken by the issue of recovery, a fraction of a second later, the following combination of keys, he disappeared - I have no idea what hit it.  Fortunately, I saw the flash and guess what had happened and quickly you press 'save' on my request.  A few seconds later, my application has been closed as the machine restarted.

I think that the bubble of Windows Update SHOULD NOT STEAL the KEYBOARD FOCUS.  I think it's dangerous and bad design.

What is the best way to communicate this suggestion to the team of Windows Update?

Is there a setting to stop Windows Update to do this?  (Stop stealing keyboard focus)

I'm looking for a Microsoft solution for the specific problem I described, and/or advice on where post for better attention to Microsoft to "design problem".

None of us are obstruction you. If we knew a way to avoid this problem (problem), we would have mentioned it earlier in this thread.

You aren't the first person to complain about this and I'm sure you won't be the last. According to Microsoft, you have two options:

1 use an automatic updates setting other Automatic (for example, download updates but let me choose whether to install them). or...

    2. turn off the automatic updates and get your updates manually (which I don't recommend).

  • How to stop windows that open up behind the taskbar and sidebar

I was wondering if there was a way to stop windows from behind the taskbar and sidebar of Vista SP2, I currently have my taskbar on the right side on the same width as my sidebar, located on the left side of the screen. Both have been set to keep above other windows. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Even if it meant having the image of the shrunken desktop so it fit perfectly into the space remaining.

Also, is it possible to have a mobile wallpaper?

Oddities of the operating system, I think. Having the bar spots on the side at least gives you a chance to save a program window. I run the taskbar double wide at the top, and some programs insist on opening umderneath it. I have to resize the task bar if I want to be able to move the window anywhare. Also happens in Win 7...

  • How to stop windows 7 from automatically saving a copy of the file to the library?

I have a desktop hp brand new high.  I installed Microsoft Office 2010.  Whenever I save a file, photo, etc, it saves a copy of the "library".  How it stop doing that?  I read about using the library and he said I could save a copy in the library, but it does it automatically.  Is there a way to stop this?  A I inadvertently set up in this way?  If I delete a file from my documents, it is removed from the library and vice versa.  From what I've read, it should be and the options, not automatic.  If you can help, please dumb it down a lot because I'm not well versed in computer talk.  Thank you very much!

The library is in fact that index files and in showing them, not actually recording a copy I think. With Explorer open where you can see libraries, choose a category from the left such as the images pane and then right-click and choose Properties. In the window that opens, you should see your C:\ User\Pictures folder that is listed in the index. Click Select, and then click Remove. Now library should not index files. Select each category for example Documents, etc and do the same thing.

  • How to stop Windows Update by creating temporary files on my external drives?

Any ideas on how to tell Windows Update to stay away from my external drives?

I have several external drives I use for backup projects, archives and collections of major media. They are connected to my laptop very irregularly and rarely more than a few hours. In recent years they have been inundated with folders with long as names d84fa74b9585277339 as the seams related to Windows Update. I think it has already started on the laptop with XP I had before this one. Sometimes I see these files on the internal hard disk, but there are theyalways disappear after some time. On external drives, I have to delete manually. On an NTFS disk partition I use for backup, it's not easy, sometimes I have to take ownership of the folder. Drives FAT32 / exFAT is easy.

I guess people who have developed Windows Update realized that you can not trust USB or eSATA connected drives to be there when the cleaning is executed (BTW when cleanup runs it?). So I must have screwed up a setting somewhere. And I have to be very consistent in this because the same thing happens with friends and relatives, I contributed to the installation of Windows 7...

    Cheers, Willem

  • How to stop windows xp Blue error STOP: 0x0000007E (0 x 80537008, 0xBACCF508, 0xC0000001D, 0xBACCF204) _?

Well my computer restarted automatically due to the automatic updates and now he continues to display the Blue error screen and at the bottom it says STOP: 0x0000007E (0 x 80537008, 0xBACCF508, 0xC0000001D, 0xBACCF204)
I did the complete diagnostic test and everything was fine, but the error always happens right as windows is about to start. Also, safe mode does not work as well. Does anyone have any ideas what to do to solve this problem?

    Quick fix is due to the Kernel patch KB977165 Microsoft applied through Windows updates;
STOP: 0x0000007E, 1st param 0xc000001D through Windows Update KB977165. Uninstalling KB977165 should fix.

Boot from your Windows XP CD and start the recovery console (see this link http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/307654 on how to use the recovery console)

Once you are in the repair screen...

    Type this: CHDIR $NtUninstallKB977165$ \spuninst
    Type this: BATCH spuninst.txt
    Type this: systemroot
    Type this command: exit

You can also do this with a Hiren's BootCD, except that you will need to open the file spuninst.txt manually and copy each line, paste it into a command prompt and let each line.

    hope this helps,

  • How to stop Windows 8 automatically upgraded to Windows 8.1?

    OT:Windows 8.

I have win 8 but my computer automatically upgraded to 8.1. How can I stop this from happening?

    George

Microsoft is pushing out 8.1 victory to all users.  Not to have happen, the only easy is to not upgrade using windows updates.  This is NOT recommended.

  • How to stop windows auto update 8.1?

Good so today I opened my computer and a message poped upwards and told me that windows 8.1 would be updated in a single day. I already had windows 8.1 front and I hated it! It slowed my computer down way, and nothing has worked. I couldn't install most of my drivers I needed because they were not compatible with 8.1. Most of the time when I looked for something in my menu start it took about 30 seconds for the first word to show. FPS game has also declined. I know that windows 8.1 is * and it does not work on my computer because I already installed it twice and both times I had to copy all my computer and reset it to factory settings and copy everything back and who took nearly a week for the copy of things. Now I have twice as many things and I don't want to copy all my computer and restart it copies any return which will take several days and I need my computer for school. I won't be forced to install 8.1 and it won't let me cancel the update, so in a day or next time I reboot I get Microsofts worst OS on my computer and I'm not going to tolerate that. Microsoft also do not ask me for more details on what are my issues with 8.1, because they are extremely useless because you tell me things as clean my computer but that helps forever and you already tried to tell me to clean my computer several times and its just useless. So is useful or let a member of the community help me and stay calm!

I don't know how useful my advice will be, but I'll tell what I did and what has spent so far, just in case it is helpful at all.

As described by everyone, today (October 21) MS. instead of sending the usual applications annoying to update, said he was ready to install 8.1 and requested I do so soon.

"He asked several times in one morning, the first bidder to let me"install later"without a specific time mentioned, but the last time he only gave me options"Now""1 h"2 h" and 4 'h' of 'now '.

Needless to say that I was impressed, so I tried to kill the task, with the old ctrl-alt-delete.

No, I'm sure that surprising, defective, because this new update task apparently had precedence over such an action of the user, and would not go away.

So without selecting an option, I hit reset and restarted to buy some time.

To restart, I went in airplane mode (hoping to suppress his ability to communicate with the update servers and therefore not encourage to restart his annoying behavior.

Then I went in my task scheduler and noticed the task to 8.1 day and the related, pursuing the task to update my system.

I killed both of them: but it was not a permanent solution with all that installed it's still out there.

So I tried to find the root of the problem: I looked back through updates.

The only windows update recently which had everything related to the modernization of the system that I had noticed was KB2952664. This little guy had no other apparent use only for "help" upgrade in the future. "

    So I uninstalled immediately.

I also noticed that the task above upgrade called a .exe file, called

    C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\SetupHost.exe

It's dangerous, I know, but I have renamed it specifically this file "SetupHost.bak", so there is no way it works again without having to reinstall or at least until I know it's course.

O, and I have disabled, of course, auto-updates of all kinds of Ms.

It has been 2 hours so far, and I am attached to the internet well.

Let's see if we can keep this job.

One last comment, however. If this small task I uninstalled was the source of this:

    (1) sneaky sneaky, sly, placing through especially on a time delay, so we do not know what was causing the problem until it was too late.

    (2) how all the flavors of the miserable did they prevent the end user to have his say.

The ironic part is that I already earn 8.1 on my other machines, but this machine was fine with 8, and that's how I intend to stay. Ramming things through on users like really disappoints me.

Microsoft - I think I speak for many of us complain about this patch.

    Stop treating us like children.

Even if we make the wrong decisions, they aren't OUR decisions, your.

I prefer to be well informed and make my own decisions, even if I make a mess of things, that is in the dark and make things "for my own good."

And informing me to make my own decision is not the same as tell me you want to do while you're doing it without worrying.

  • How to stop Windows Explorer 8 refusing to download Firefox? It is said that it is an illegal action

I have a new to me 2008 computer Dell laptop running Explorer8 for Windows XP (SP3). I'm trying to download Firefox, that we use in all our other computers as Navigator, and it refuses to download the files, saying: this is an illegal action, and he throws me offline. How to neutralize Explorer8, who apparently is not ready to die in peace, download Firefox, then change to Firefox as default browser without a collapse of the laptop?

There are no on the screen long enough to write. "An illegal action", it is said, and one or 2 other words flash before he disappeared and then my computer goes dead (or should I say it stops dead) and must restart. I find a disc to load Firefox while offline, so it's ready and waiting to pounce on Explorer8 when I go online, instead of the other way around.
