Backup Oracle using AIX cmds

Hi all

I need a clarification about the Oracle DB hope that you guys can shed some light on my question.

One of my clients wants to take backup of oracle with AIX - OS commands (file oradata) data file path, when the database is running, but
database is in fact planned in RMAN backup regularly.

Still images that he insists to make a backup of the folder the database oradata without even stopping. I told tat backup would be incomplete, incorrect and
It cannot be used to restore but customer said that he had visited there previously with tat type backup so he needs a backup.

Can you please clarify for me, if I take a backup of the oradata folder using AIX commands such as tar and gunzip when the database is running and db is in log mode archive.
I was able to restore will be or is the backup will be valid.

Thanks in advance...

The answer is NO, NO, a thousand times NO!

Unless you use the backup software is 'Oracle abreast' (in which case under the covers it is in fact a wrapper for RMAN or a managed user backup hot) you trash, for the reasons that you have already explained to your customer.

I think you should show your client on a test... computer with his boss of bosses present bosses.

Hold him (or another job!)

Good luck

    Absolutely! However, depending on the version of Windows 7 you are using, you get a different program (and the outcome).

    Windows 7 Ultimate and Pro contain a new backup program (replaced ntbackup) called wbadmin.exe. Here is the info on it use.
    If you have an other versions, you're stuck with a different program. You can start from a command line, but it only that launch the GUI.

    If you wbadmin, you can plan things with the Scheduler task (including a stop after) VP Tech Services

  • Combining three versions in a single backup file using the batch client/config file

    Hello again,

    Is there anyway to get three versions in a single backup file using a config file and the batch client, currently we have this Configuration file:

    [General]

    Operation = Multiple

    Username =

    Password =

    URL = net. TCP://localhost: 5210, Oracle, Drm, ProcessManager

    LogFileName=D:\DRM\VIPTBAU\LOG_FILES\logfile.log

    [Activities]

    OperationCount = 3

    Operation1 = VIP_DIMENSIONS

    Operation2 = ACCOUNT_RF

    Existence3 = ACCOUNT_BS

    [VIP_DIMENSIONS]

    Operation = Backupversiontofile

    Connection = MONTH_END_BACKUP

    VersionAbbrev = TESTPROJ_VIP_DIMENSIONS

    filename = VIP_DIMENSIONS

    [ACCOUNT_RF]

    Operation = Backupversiontofile

    Connection = MONTH_END_BACKUP

    VersionAbbrev = TESTPROJ_RF_ACCOUNT

    filename = VIP_DIMENSIONS

    [ACCOUNT_BS]

    Operation = Backupversiontofile

    Connection = MONTH_END_BACKUP

    VersionAbbrev = TESTPROJ_BS_ACCOUNT

    filename = VIP_DIMENSIONS

    which generates three separate files. We tried using a single operation and listing the 3 times of the VersionAbbrev, but that didn't work and also list the 3 versions in a VersionAbbrev.

    If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated

    Hi Chris Harris-Oracle

    DRM client batch supports export several versions of a single file and restore it back. You must specify the defined version name and the delimiter.

    You can configure the cfg below the backup file

    [General]

    Operation = Multiple

    Username =

    Password =

    URL = net. TCP://localhost: 5210, Oracle, Drm, ProcessManager

    LogFileName=D:\DRM\VIPTBAU\LOG_FILES\logfile.log

    [Activities]

    OperationCount = 1

    OP1 = VIP_DIMENSIONS

    [VIP_DIMENSIONS]

    Operation = Backupversiontofile

    Connection = MONTH_END_BACKUP

    VersionAbbrev = TESTPROJ_VIP_DIMENSIONS, TESTPROJ_RF_ACCOUNT, TESTPROJ_BS_ACCOUNT

    filename = VIP_DIMENSIONS

    Delimiter = comma

    to restore

    [VIP_DIMENSIONS]

    Operation = RestoreVersionFromFile

    Connection = MONTH_END_BACKUP

    SourceVersionAbbrev = TESTPROJ_VIP_DIMENSIONS, TESTPROJ_RF_ACCOUNT, TESTPROJ_BS_ACCOUNT

    TargetVersionAbbrev = TESTPROJ_VIP_DIMENSIONS, TESTPROJ_RF_ACCOUNT, TESTPROJ_BS_ACCOUNT

    filename = VIP_DIMENSIONS

    Delimiter = comma

    Try it tested and it works very well

  • Restore files, backup created using Vista, you try to restore using XP

    I've known a failuren hard drive on my laptop running Vista Ultimate.  I have a backup on an external hard drive.

    I'm still hoping that I can recover data from faulty hard disk, but it doesn't look promising.

    In the meantime, I'm trying to restore the backup files using my previous laptop, which is running XP.  When I try to select the files to restore by using the backup/restore application, it can't find all the appropriate files.  He seems to want a file with an extension "BKF", but I can't find the external hard disk.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello Siphomangena,

    Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum.

    If you want to enable the Wi - Fi adapter, try the following steps. However, it does not activate or disable the driver of network installed on your computer.

    1. Go to Start, click all programs and open the Accessories.
    2. Right-click on command prompt in the list programs, and then select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, click OK, or alternatively, click Yes.
    3. In the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:
      netsh interface set interface name ="Local area connection"enable

      Note: replace the Local network connection with the name of your card, for example, the wireless network connection.

    4. This allows you to Wi - Fi adapter.

    Corollary: Replace 'activate' with 'disable' in the command in step 3 to disable the Wi - Fi adapter.

  • MySQL to Oracle using LKM SQL to Oracle, poor performance

    Hello

    I'm on the underside of technology.

    I'm try to use ODI to import data from MySQL to Oracle using the LKM SQL to Oracle, it works well for small amounts of documents but once volumes go higher it performs very badly.

    I'm replacing an integration of existing HS dblink to 44 seconds and ODI is 9 minutes.

    The MySQL and Oracle DB are on the same host with an autonomous ODI agent on the same host.

    MySQL 5.6.21

    Oracle 11.2.0.4

    Oracle Data Integrator 12.1.3

    I may try a different approach to dumping the MySQL table to a flat file and import from external table or sqlldr but y at - it a way to make the LKM SQL for Oracle perform better?

    Hello

    This problem has been resolved.

    I was setting the table sizes in batches on the data source server, after you set the values on the target data server is it now works as expected.

    Using a value of 5,000 for the two tables has reduced the operating time of 9 minutes to about 40 seconds.

  • How Oracle use Index?

    RDBMS 11.2.0.3

    Hi all

    Suppose I have create the following table and the primary key:
    CREATE TABLE DUMMY_I( BOC NUMBER, START_TIME DATE, END_TIME DATE);

    ALTER TABLE DUMMY_I
    MODIFY (BOC NOT NULL);

    ALTER TABLE DUMMY_I
    MODIFY (START_TIME NOT NULL);

    ALTER TABLE DUMMY_I
    ADD CONSTRAINT DUMMY_I_PK PRIMARY KEY
    ( BOC, START_TIME) ENABLE;
    A query with Oracle will use a PK Index:
    SELECT * FROM
    DUMMY_I
    WHERE BOC = :v01
    AND START_TIME = :v02
    But the my dobout is when I need to add field in my query:
    SELECT * FROM
    DUMMY_I
    WHERE  BOC = :v01
    AND START_TIME = :v02
    AND END_TIME != :v03
    In the example above: how to create an Index to optimize my request?

    Given that BOC and START_TIME already have an index. Then I should create an Index unique addition field END_TIME and Oracle will use both indexes to optimize my request?
    Or
    I need to create a new Index with BOC, START_TIME, END_TIME?

    Hello

    Take a look at this, especially the Index scan to the chapter

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E29597_01/server.1111/e16638/optimops.htm#autoId9

    Oracle uses indexes in several different ways, which will have much more to understand than a forum thread
    of course, if you have a specific question, pull :)

    on your original question:

    both cases are possible, but

    (a) index on BOC, START_TIME, END_TIME - its pretty simple so that it works and as simple good

    (b) index on BOC, START_TIME and END_TIME index
    Oracle can (but not necessarily will!) use both indexes in a JOIN INDEX, also a long time that you reference that these and any additional unindexed columns (if there is one)

    Given this example with queries, one is more appropriate here, but he cannot say in general.

    Ahhh if it actually exports the security in the form of your original post, I got the impression that you could not
    anyway in 11, you can specify the type of artifact and for forms is SL_FORM, the query I've provided should extract just a security against the forms.

  • How dynamically update the role of oracle using the trigger

    How dynamically update the role of oracle using the trigger:

    I have svmanger owner of schema in the database. There are five tables belonged to svmanager.

    Table A, B, C, D, E.

    I have a role that is played only to these tables under the scheme: SVMANAGER_READ_ONLY

    now, if I create a new table F under svmanager. the role that svmanager_read_only does not work is updated, so the user had assigned role cannot access table F.

    is there a way to create the trigger for this role dynamically update any when a table is created or deleted?

    Thank you.

    I really really really don't suggest to do this - it's a bad habit. If possible I'd just adding the grant as part of the steps to the role on the new creation of the table.
    But for fun here's how you can accomplish this:

    create or replace procedure execute_grant(v_ddl in varchar2)
    is
    begin
       execute immediate v_ddl;
    end;
    /

    create or replace trigger catch_create_table_trg after create on schema

    ddl_job number;
    ddl_str varchar2(50);
    begin
       IF ora_dict_obj_type = 'TABLE' THEN

           ddl_str := 'GRANT SELECT ON '||ora_dict_obj_owner||'.'||ora_dict_obj_name||' TO SVMANAGER_READ_ONLY';

           dbms_job.submit(job => ddl_job,
           what => 'execute_grant(''' || ddl_str || ''');',
           next_date => sysdate+(5/24/60/60));

       END IF;
