Backup/Restore restores all of the files in the backup

Help?!?

My HD died a few days before. I have installed a new, duly would fdisk and formatted and anxious to get rebuilt. I freshly installed W7 Ultimate and restored from a previous backup set. I had been religiously full backup of data and images of the system.

When I restore (I think) all my data down loaded, however I have an error log will be a large number of filesthat has been omitted. None of my apps were also downloaded and incorporated into my new installation of W7.

Is this a permissions problem? and if yes how I overcome?

Thanks in advance,

See you soon

Geoff

I searched high and low for an answer to this question, but I'm not. I have use Rescue and Recovery to back up the drive of my laptop. If I have a problem of catastrophic disk, save and recovery will restore my entire drive to a new drive, including the service partition? I have a fully functional and updated disc to date after a full restore? (Guess that I restore using a floppy disk to boot Rescue and Recovery, which have I already have.)

Well, I decided that I have a couple of hours on my hands and a fresh backup using rescue and recovery (in order to test whether or not he backs up the recovery partition) and a Windows Vista "complete PC Backup" (in this case that it fails).

The result: Yes, when you restore a recent backup, it will also restore the recovery partition.

  • All Documents and files of Desktop/shortcuts will miss - restore but still - missing but the properties of the folder indicates the used disk space

I use Windows Vista Home Premium.  I am the only user and gave me administrative prvileges.

I was working on my computer when I decided to look at some of my data to the application.  I have come to C:\Users\MYPROFILE but don't see the AppData folder.  However, all my other files were there (office, Documents, etc.).  I have a click with the button right on my profile and click on the attributes Hidden and hit apply.  He took a few moments he went through all folders of files (you can tell by when it indicates the size).

After this happened, I tried to go back in C:\Users but my profile was gone.

I restarted and when the office came, all my desktop files had disappeared and the shortcut to IE.  When I click on my profile, it was empty with the exception of the default folders.  All default folders were empty of all my data.

I did a restore system a few days ago and my profile came, but it was always empty.  However, when I go to c:\users and right click on my profile and press properties, it shows size 11.5 GB as well as the creation date of February 17, 2009 (which is correct).  However all my data are still missing.  Any ideas?

Display your user folder by deleting a hidden file attribute can be set on the access property page when you right click on your user folder.  Let the net of new low for subfolders and files not hidden attribute when the option is available to you.

To see the hidden files and system under normal circumstances, go to control panel / Folder Options / view and uncheck both options so that they are visible.  This is not your main problem, however, you must remove the attribute hidden in your user folder.

  • Until I found this thread, I lost 16 months in the Inbox during compacting emails, I went to the trash can and hit restore all, but I can't find them

As I close outlook wxpress yesterday, I got the prompt for compaction. It's been awhile, so I let it start and stop later the computer without checking anything. Today, when I went to check my messages, everthting from 2012 until yesterday was gone. I went in the trash and saw that he was responsible. I have selected to restore a prompt came and I hit restore all. I return wwent into my Inbox and found nothing changed. I searched the web and found this thread and read something about 'with OE not open' and stuff on .bak and .dbx, and fear that I might have screwed up. Where can I find these messages?

You need more than a single click to restore. Here's my answer "keeps" together with the instructions. The party concerned is in blue, but please read all this.

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :
    http://www.insideoe.com/FAQs/why.htm#compact

    Recovery methods:

If you are running XP/SP3, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Note: If you have new messages in the folder you are go restore, move them to a folder first created user, or they will be lost. They can be moved once the old posts have been restored.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:
    http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/default.aspx

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently.

    Hello

Find the file using Windows search, if you remember any file name.

If you can't find a file on your computer or you accidently modified or deleted a file, you can restore from a backup (if you are using the Windows backup utility) or you can try to restore it from a previous version. Previous versions are copies of files and folders that Windows automatically saves as part of a restore point. Previous versions are sometimes referred to as shadow copies.

  • System Restore, deletion of the photo and file rights issues

I had trouble with my phone now for about half a year. Awhile back on downloading a program, my computer began to tell me that I didn't have 'rights' to remove a file, access a folder or even to open a program, when I have full admin on her rights. This problem has persisted, but not as much as he used to.

The following problem was born about two months ago. I noticed that my laptop didn't is more let me restore the system yesterday. The day before the current day was the only day where he had registered under a restore point. My laptop still has this problem. Not only that, but every time I do a system restore it says failure of the resolution.

At the beginning of this year as my C: drive grew low space I created a picture file on my D: drive and transferred all my current photos to the new folder and kept the old one on the C: drive, but deleted all the images in the default image folder. Now tonight, I deleted a program out of my D: dive that was installed a year ago that I no longer use, and after removing the photo on my D: drive folder wiped. There are thousands of images recorded in this issue said. I tried a system restore to recover images, but the restoration of the system, as said before, has failed.

I would appreciate help in how to conquer these questions. There is not much I can do until my images are retrieved, so fast response and the help is even more appreciated.

  • Need to backup all programs and files without the System Image

    Hi all

Recently, I myself in a dilemma. I installed 4 additional disks with the intention of creating a RAID volume supported by the BIOS. To do this, I need to change the BIOS setting of the controller which includes all the volumes, including my boot drive (that I don't intend to RAID). The problem I have is that when I pass the UEFI to RAID controller, Windows Recovery will not use the System Image I did. He said that the volume was created under a different arrangement (Bios vs. EFI).

What are my options? Is there a different backup setting, which allows to keep all my installed software? I am not concerned with the data that I can copy it to an external volume, but it would take several days to get all of my software reinstalled. I would like to avoid this. I guess I'll have to reinstall Windows Pro 8.1 and then use a backup program to restore everything. If this is the case, then I need to know which backup program will work. If there is a better way, I would like to know. I see my options in the form, get another backup program, get a map of controller for the boot drive or the RAID volume or just reinstall.

    Thank you

It was to be expected if you have made a backup from external software instead of using the recommendations of backup / restore of the Organizer:

    https://helpx.Adobe.com/Photoshop-elements/KB/backup-restore-move-catalog-Photoshop.html

If you "import" the backup made by other software, you can only retrieve the metadata that you have voluntarily registered in the metadata section of your files.

The albums are NOT written in the files. They are lists of files stored in the catalog, like playlists for audio.

Because it is saved in the catalog, you have to run the process described above to retrieve the catalog or (if you install on the same computer) to 'convert' catalog.
