Backup & storage

Is it possible to have on the same external hard drive, my backups time machine and my photos and music? I'm getting low on disk space on my MacBook Pro (2009). My quality is 152,9 GB and I only left 5.75 GB.

Thank you

Yes, but it should not be done. A drive can fail at any time. your working data and backups should be apart of them.

  • What is the best way to manage the use of the XP processor and backup storage?

I have a three year old computer, I use a lot of disk space and burn the DVD for backup storage. I am a heavy user of CPU too. How do you recommend that I improve it? Thank you

    * original title - my Windows XP storage... *.

    Hmmmmmm!

"I use a lot of disk space" - remove all the files that you do not need, does not store things that you don't use often. Delete unwanted files, i.e. run diskcleanup for example.

"burn the DVD for storage of backup" - If you have USB2 then consider getting an external USB2 hard drive. Its easy to set up as and when necessary and is easy to copy/backup information to.

Indeed, consider laying a HD internal or (easier) a USB2 external hard drive for storage from day to day, not just a backup.

"I am a heavy user of CPU too" - its sometimes possible to upgrade your processor one installed initially, but it will depend on your type/brand/model of PC. Sometimes possible, sometimes it isn't. But it is usually at best a stop gap.

If you have any free ram slots, additional ram stick in (get the right type for your PC) that can help speed up actions for certain tasks. If you play games and you have a "graphics card", level it as well.

Best of all, is to consider a replacement PC. If you are really short on HD and have a very slow motherboard or CPU, long term on a new PC is probably going to be the best.

Not sure if this is the type of information you were after? If it is not coming back.

  • The limited size of the premises plan (size of primary and backup storage?)

In a local plan, I put the following tags to limit the size of the JVM to 350 MB:
    < Unit Calculator > BINARY < / Unit-Calculator >
    < high-units > 367001600 < / high units >

Means the primary storage AND backup storage is limited to 350 MB? It makes sense that they would have the same size, ensuring only that's how it works.

  • Don't turn off the misdeeds of the option of backup (storage iCloud) the application or at the end upward in a data loss?

I'm having a total allocated 5Gig my storage space, in my iPhone5s (16 GB, last update 9.3.2). I have backups for like almost most of my applications. So I tried entering space by turning off backups, for some of the apps. Now who will be harmful?

In other words, for example say I have backup for WhatsApp and then turning off, I'm freeing storage space. So once I have turn off backup, what actually happens? It does not store messages or conversations in the cloud?

Adding to the question above, what is the difference of the backup power off and removing documents and data out of the app?

    Any help would be appreciated.

To your first question: no backups in iCloud means that if you don't back up your device with iTunes on your laptop, an accident or problems, you will not be able to recover your data and your data will be lost. But turn it off doesn't cause any loss of data, that you are prompted if you want to keep what you have in your device or not (always answer ' keep on my iPhone ")

Secondly, the removal of the information from the application deletes your progression of game, or Safari bookmarks, or attached or any other app login information. It deletes the data on your device.

  • A USB at low prices is not acceptable for long-term backup storage?

I'm close to the graduation of my night school. Subsequently, I plan to upgrade my MCSA & MCDST MCITP and MCTS certifications. I use the ability to download all the stuff of Dreamspark while I still qualify so I'll still have access to the server.

I would normally just burn these images on cd/DVD, but with virtual machines, it is generally easier to use the .iso images. I need a way to save as well as (stored in .txt files) product keys. I'm looking for the cheapest possible solution.

Buy a USB hard drive for $50 at a "back-to-school" sales stories Office Supply would be viable for the long term storage? Those who are not really designed to be WORMs where I write once, and then paste it in a safe place with my original disks/CD/DVD (all since 1989) until I have more software to back up.

In my opinion, a backup tape would be too expensive for my needs, flash drives large size are also expensive, DVD are too small or silly to burn a DVD with a single. ISO image.

So buying an external hard drive seems the cheapest solution, but how that will hold up over time? I think it is bad that the reader will be much used and rest in a unique, rather than be spun position regularly.

Don't forget that "backup" deduced it is a * second * copy data - not your original copy (only).

He'll resist quite well - as long as it is not being abused.  Sitting didn't seem to affect one of the readers that I have 5 + years.  Plugged in recently when I found it.  It was one of them:
    http://reviews.CNET.com/external-hard-drives/Ximeta-NetDisk-80GB/4505-3190_7-30734045.html

Yes - I got when it first came out.  Seems small now - I have an eSATA/USB 64 GB flash drive that holds 64GB.

Your concern brings up the fact that it shouldn't be so important to you anyway - if you don't think you'll use it very often. ;-)

Is - this hard drive internal or external?  (A backup is just replication, not a real backup, if it is connected to the same as the primary system.)

If the Windows Vista backup solution has worked as it was supposed to - you would have filled the space like that.  Something was wrong.  Don't know what hand - but the built-in Vista backup isn't the way many people in order to safeguard their stuff for some reason.

  • 2 hard drives using a backup/storage

Hello.  I have two hard drives.  I use a (disc 1) for OS, games, etc.  I use the other (disc 2) for storing music, photos, documents, storage of large parcels of game.  If I install a new operating system on disk 1 I will still be able to extract the data from drive 2 or will it formatted or rendered unusable.

You only format or change the main drive, your second drive will not be affected (assuming you "mess" with the right drive)

  • The CSV on Equallogic DPM backup storage

We have a cluster of Hyper-V connection to an Equallogic PS6000e CSV on iSCSI and have recently started to configure the Hyper-V virtual machine protection.

The question that we see involves the backup expire (VSSADMIN list writers watch time out) and the event logs show iSCSI cannot connect to the target volumes. When I look at the Windows iSCSI initiator (2008 R2) we see all target communication successfully. SUCCESS tools are installed on each Hyper-V host and we have configured iSCSI targets to use CHAP authentication and IP restriction for the iSCSI network.

If I disable the writer VSS Equallogic (DPM tempted to use it as a hardware VSS writer) backup of virtual machines Hyper-V succeeds by using the Hyper-V VSS software default recorder. Our option is to use only IP iSCSI access restrictions but do we need to provide the DPM server with one interface on the iSCSI network.

I want to know is what are the side effects of a disabling Equallogic VSS writer using the /unregserver eqlvss on each node of Hyper-V and to return to the recorder VSS Hyper-V software (other than the impact on performance).
Y at - it a component of the Equallogic SAN on a windows environment that awaits the Equallogic VSS writer to work?

Not within the DPM.   This is known as an "off-host Backup" or "server less backup" programs such as Backup Exec.  (Called ALA)   NetBackup and Commvault support also, but not of DPM.    DPM cannot just "login", that is, the IP address and the qualified name full name to use.

Generically, to do this, the backup sw, called Service VSS (Volume Shadow) to calm the system files and the flush cache.  When VSS will do that if our HW vendor's will connect to vss-control over table volume, select the volume, create the snapshot and return (in XML format), the name and IP address.    This information can be used to indicate the version of CLI, MS initiator iSCSI (msiscli) where and how much you connect to.   DPM doesn't have this capability.

Also MS changed in W2K8 XML format, if the backup server must be the same operating system as the server to be backed up.  W2K3 or W2K8, you cannot mix them to disable the backup host.

DPM will have to build software to manage the processing of the XML file and tell the iSCSI initiator to connect to.  Put the snapshot in offline mode, and then remove it when finished.   So not an easy task by any means.

  • addition of external backup storage device

    Hi all

I have 5 ESX 4.0 servers in a farm.  I use vRanger connection to a SAN backup images and this is configured on a virtual machine.  I would like to set up an external tape drive in the virtual machine to start the tape backup.

Can someone point me in the right direction please and tell me how in a few easy steps?

Looking for a decent documentation on it but can not find anyything to date on that.

    Thank you

Looking to the SCSI Pass through of the unit band directly to a virtual machine?  It all works very well, it has quite a few limitations you should be aware of:

    (1) it is only supported if you are using the SCSI cards on the VMware HCL, which there is not a great list.

    (2) with this configuration prevents the use of VMotion or HA as this virtual machine becomes bound to the physical device on the ESX host.

Another solution, in that you should look at is a SCSI-> device converter iSCSI for this tape drive.  That will allow you to drive to a virtual machine through the iSCSI initiator of Microsoft inside the virtual machine, which frees you from linking the player/SCSI card type to an individual ESX or VM host.  You will be able to use VMotion, DRS, HA, etc., while being able to perform your backups with your usual software to backup (Backup Exec, etc).

I have had good success with the following company products.  I think it is worth to investigate and potentially spending another $1,000 for the flexibility of this offer.  I hope this helps.

  • iCloud drive: is it a backup or storage?

iCloud is a single backup/cloud? Or more precisely, can I use it as a storage device (paying) to free up space on my phone online?

I am not opposed to just buy an external hard drive physical but want to see options like the seams in car financially reasonable and safe. I do not simply want to have my synchronized files (100 GB is greater than 2 of my devices; I just need more space!), I wonder if I can use it as storage only.

Get an external hard drive. iCloud is not a backup/storage system, it is a system of synchronization.

  • how much storage is required for a scheduled backup, if you already have your shadow system recorded in the storage device?

    Hello

I already asked this question but I am still confused! I have re-installed a W7-64 bit fresh in my desktop HP-computer, the first thing was to burn down an emergency start, the startup disk, and then stored a shadow/system image on a removable pocket of 160 G external support box. I have configured my monthly backups to be stored in this media storage device that shows almost 90Gs by flying over. But when the monthly AutoSave active, it stops, & I get a window saying my camera isn't big enough for a scheduled backup. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that if you have a shadow of system stored in (an external device like mine). A new scheduled backup is just to refresh the system image w/all other file, program etc... Why do I need more 90Gs for whom? I can't afford an external backup storage, right up there:
    1. is it possible to store scheduled backups on my current internal C: drv? (I am aware of the risks). until I get no additional external storage?
    2. why, simply by making a return for which the OS is looking for new files, software etc... who need to maybe added or put to date him require more Gs to a full backup of the system?

  • NAS storage backup

    Hello

I'm a newcomer to VMware. I'm looking for free image ESXi4 (guest OS)-level backup solution. I came across ghettoVCB.sh script and think he would suite me. I intend to use the NAS box as a backup storage. However, I have some questions as follows. Everyone please specify them for me?

1 must. the NAS box support NFS?

2 must. the NAS box be in the VMware hardware compatibility list?

    Thank you

As long as it supports NFS v3 over TCP, it should work.  Make sure that the version is in the card before you buy it.

  • Primary storage array replication backup

    Hi all

With the acceleration of VMware Infrastructure Mid Size kit, is it possible to use VMware to replciate all the LUNS of a Bay of primary storage to an array of backup storage in the event of a failure of table? They will be set by iSCSI on GB ethernet. Otherwise, what is the easiest way to replicate all the data from a primary to a booth table, with or without 3rd party tools?

    Welcome to the forums,

VMware does not storage replication. Can you either need to use replication tools that provides the storage provider or try 3rd party tools such as:

  • Can I use iCloud for storing photo backup?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if it is possible to use iCloud as photo backup storage. I have a lot of pictures on my OS 10.7.5 and save them on the cloud. Is this possible? is it possible even with an older version of iPhoto?

    Thank you friends mac colleagues.

    Ana

No iCloud by itself. You can save the images on iCloud drive, but then they are just images randomly without structure, unless save you them in a kind of files that will help you organize them in the drive.

If you want to archive and save photos, you should be import on your computer, or you must use a Cloud service of archiving such as Dropbox or Google Photos. It is the only way to store your photos.

    Good luck

  • iCloud backup 4.5 g could not be removed from the iPad, iPhone, Mac

However, I have 5GB on iCloud, iCloud frequently reminders me iCloud is almost out of memory.  I checked the iCloud, storage, and it is wired that backup 4.47 GB of storage and when I want to delete thoseBackups and it says takes backups only 0KB and I can't remove all backup storages.

I called the Apple Support, they told me that my iCloud had almost 5 GB of free, while for me, iCloud has only 150 MB of free space.  They said wait a few days, iCloud can be almost free. While for me, iCloud is still almost out of memory. They have not only to troubleshoot.

I guess that the iCloud as SW goes wrong in the server.  Who can help?  Need to rebuild a new iCloud account?

I tried to send a mail to Apple, and I can't find his e-mail address.

    Wang Yubo

I had a similar problem after than my iOS updated. My backup would not be complete, he appeared as 0 k, the other upward showed up to 0 KB and I don't have an option to remove my existing back upward.

I turned off back upward and while I don't then have an option to remove my previous upward, the previous upward (0 KB) disappeared on his own. I could then turn upward back, Ko 0 return up to did not reappear and I could start and finish a new upward.

Some have reported that once they turn their backs on the wide, the previous upward (0 KB) does not or only in the affirmative, he reappears when the reverse is turned back on (even if they are then able to make a new backup as much as they have space).

It seems that in some cases KB 0 backup data is corrupted and indeed takes space in the cloud and it seems not that it can be removed by the user, if that's what happened in your case, contact the Apple support, (change the country if needed) they were able to remove the data corrupted for some users. If this link does not work for you, select 'Support' in the black menu at the top of the page and choose "More products" on the page that appears.
