Bad behavior when closing FF 9.0.1 with several tabs open

Despite by checking the checkbox in the tabs for FF 9.0.1 preferences for "Warn me when closing multiple tabs", the browser does not behave as it did before the upgrade to FF 3.6. Looking at the following Help article:

https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/KB/Firefox%20does%20not%20ask%20To%20save%20tabs%20and%20Windows%20on%20exit

showed me the appropriate topic locations: config to change the settings I think must have been properly updated in Firefox by selections of preferences automatically. Am I missing something here? Why would it be something a preference that can be selectable, but ignored in practice?

Mac OS X 10.6.8

What wrong when you close a window with multiple tabs?

Make sure you close Firefox ask via Firefox-> Firefox Quit to close all open windows and leave Firefox.

Otherwise you just close the current Firefox window and this window might not get restored (check the history > recently closed Windows)

Thank you very much for the input. Indeed, I go to Options/General and together "when Firefox starts:" 'Show my home page' and when I click on X to close the FF button, then asked to FF:

"Want you Firefox to save your tabs for the next time it starts? I click on "Save and exit" when I start FF, tabs are automatically re-open! :-) It's very, very happy.

I never thought tabs will be reopened when the blank page is set initially. And I did not tried because I usually have several tabs open, so do not wanted to risk. For me, the issue is resolved. THX

  • How can I minimize Firefox in one click when I have several tabs open?

I used to be able to minimize Firefox with a single click on the icon in the taskbar, even with several tabs open. Now it doesn't let me. Now, when I move my mouse over the FF icon, a pop-up shows all open tabs and I need to find another way to minimize Firefox. I'm missing something here.

I was right. I unchecked the box in the options that says "show previews of the tab in the Windows task bar" and everything works as I want it now. Thanks again for your help. These things are usually easy to fix, but hard to find sometimes.

  • When there are several tabs open, why the search always take place on the 2nd tab (first tab seems never to change the homepage) despite my selection of a different tab where to do a search on google?

I have Mozilla Firefox 10.0. When I open it, it opens properly on the homepage in the first tab. Once I have another, or several, tabs opened, any tab is active, your google searches, I immediately takes place at the No. 2. Do not count how many times I go to the tab for example 4 to search (because I would compare with the page Web open in a tab 2), but it does still today the Search tab 2. It's very irritating. It must be a setting that went pear-shaped, but where / who? Any suggestions? Thank you.

  • Just upgraded to FF4. When I close my browser with multiple tabs open, it is not asking or save my tabs. I tried the steps I ran across when I searched. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?

I've recently updated to FF4. In general, I have several tabs open and save when I close FF. It is no longer save not asking me to save. I tried the steps such as starting FF in safe mode, from sessions.js to sessions.bak.js, etc.. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?

I have this same problem. In Options-> general, I put to ' view my tabs, windows and the last time ", but it's not at all. Even with the 3 value 'true' preferences, I get no warning and only my homepage at the start of Firefox.

ETA: Resolved - saving tab does not work if you have FF on clear history leaving, probably having to do with FF fixing of items from the history to the tab ID's off 'clear history leaving', tabs allow to save very well now.

    1. Type of topic: config in the address bar and press on enter

    3. Find browser.tabs.warnOnClosepreference, if its value is set to false, double-click on it to change its value to true
    4. Repeat this for 3 preferences browser.warnOnQuit, the browser.warnOnRestart and the browser.showQuitWarning

  • When I have two open browser windows, the first with several tabs, the second a window from a link (if one tab), and close the second window, I Quit Firefox message, ' do you want to save the tabs...?

This was happening with FF 3 before moving on to 4 and not going on with FF4.0 until the 4.0.1 update has been applied, the first time, he ran. Same problem on another computer running FF3, so maybe a related problem of the extension.

If I have three windows open and close the third, I don't get it. Only when two are open and one is closed. I could have three, close one, then the second and get the prompt.

On my homepage, I have upward and I want to open a new tab. When I click to open a new tab, nothing happens. How can this be repaired?

Hello lsmalls787, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that disables certain parameters, disables most Add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:

    • In Firefox 29,0 and above, click on the menu button

      click Help

then select restart with disabled modules.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Mode safe mode as follows:

    • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. Please follow the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

  • My browser crashes when I update tabs - and I'm a heavy Firefox users, with 60 tabs open regularly. I have disabled all of my extensions, happens again.

I'm a very, very heavy user of Firefox that uses your web browser for my work as a blogger of hockey.

I had major problems with Firefox crashing last month. I'm running AdBlock Plus, NoScript, FlashBlock, toolbar picture, Manager Session, Tabmix Plus and Cookie controller, and I have never had any problems with my front extensions (plug-ins that I use are minimal; (Java, Flash, VLC, Silverlight, Quicktime, Adobe Acrobat)...

But the new generation crashed very regularly when I trying to refresh my tabs, when I'm scrolling through Web image-heavy sites (the background will Flash to 'gray' and it will soon crash) or when I have an excessive amount of open tabs.

I tried to delete that many plug-ins (including some automatic translators as I'm on several languages to cover the news of hockey) as possible, I tried to disable each plugin, I turned off the sync, I looked for online assistance and I have not found answers to my problems.

I prefer not to migrate to Chrome or especially IE, because 60 to 80 hours a week, I found that Firefox is the best available tool with which I can accomplish the tasks necessary to do my job, but he became very glitch-y and accidents are frustrating, because I often lose the information added to my blog and pieces of time trying to catch me.

I'm starting to wonder if having TabMix Plus and a Session Manager are responsible for the problems, but even if I am a heavy computer user, I have no expert browser, I can use all possible assistance in addressing this issue.

    That's my story.

    Thanks for your time,

Not sure if this helps, but you can try (you may already have) turn off hardware acceleration?

    Perform the following steps:

    • Click on the orange top left Firefox button, then select the 'Options' button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to tools > Options.
    • In the Firefox options window, click the Advanced tab, and then select 'General '.
    • You will find in the list of parameters, the checkbox use hardware acceleration when available . Clear this check box.
    • Now restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

  • I got the new version 8.0 of firefox today and now when I put a new URL in a tab open or type a URL in a new tab, nothing DON'T get PAST! Help!

Since I installed version 8.0 of Firefox earlier today, I was unable to get new Web pages by typing in their URLs. If I click on a link in a tab that was opened before the installation (and was called by restoring the Session after I installed the new version) - say in one of my messages in the Hotmail or one with another showing - Web page tab all right and I go to the new page. Even if I click the back arrow: I can go back and forwards to pages that have already been opened in the previous session.

However, if I type a URL to a new site in the address bar, OR open a new tab and enter a URL here... When I press the Enter key sometimes NOTHING AT ALL. Same thing if I click on the thumb to the new address arrow that appears to the right of the location bar - nothing. This has happened over and over again.

What is going on? If I use IE, everything works very well, there must be something in Firefox. I need to just go back to the previous version of Firefox I had before this last update? As it is now, I can't go to all the pages that I haven't looked in my session restored, which is not only frustrating but makes Firefox pretty useless for future use. Alternatively, if it is another problem, any ideas on what and how to fix it? Thank you.
