Bad choice for opening a program

Hi all-

I just spent two hours with the remote support to get rid of the virus with the help of HP. It uses Revo Uninstaller to go through everything. When he asked me to check the shortcuts of programs on my desktop, I clicked for Internet Explorer to open it and now my download window opens, asking if I want to open and then an identical instead of open the program window. How can I change how the program opens? I use Windows 8. I need this program in the future. Help, please.

TIA, Kiralinde

Sounds like your IE files system has been damaged by the virus, because it can not open correctly the right broswer. HP support offered a way to fix this link? It seems that the link IE that was related to it was broken and you will have to restore it back to factory install or IE Redown again and reinstall it on the previous IE and then do a Windows Update to make sure that everything is back to normal. When the icon links are damaged, you will need to click its properties and make the link manually and save it to see if this corrects the link.
