Bad sectors HARD drive

Hi, I have 8510w with XP and Ubuntu partitions. Have not had any trouble with HARD drive, until yesterday when I tried to make an image of my XP partition. PartImage and Clonezilla time frozen either upwards / entered a loop with a message "cannot read block 'large number' 'large number' image.

Apparently, there are bad sectors on my drive. Does take to repair under warranty with this "problem"?

  • 2nd hard drive on the dv7-6b77dx

I have a dv7-6b77dx, and I decided to upgrade my laptop with an SSD, only to discover that, even if there is a cabby for a second drive, the sata cable is not included. Also, if I want to order to the HP parts store, I can not just the cable; I have to get the full kit, even if there is no use for the remaining parts. Of course, I'm angry and do not want to pay ~ $50 + shipping for a HARD drive kit when I need only the cable. I have a more economic and more logical option here? Moreover, the cable or the kit will probably be the last HP product I take it than ever. Very disappointed.

    Hello:

I think it is the cable you need.

  • To install the new eSATA / SATA to USB 2.0 hard drive in an external enclosure but the computer does not recognize the drive in disk management

I have an old computer with installed Microsoft Windows XP SP2 and 3.  I bought a new hard drive and also a new external hard drive for her case.  I have correctly installed the hard drive inside the enclosure, and I think that I have installed correctly (in the motherboard SATA port) eSATA port, according to the manufacturer's instructions.  I plugged everything... first eSATA, then power and power switch.  I restarted the computer, and I chose to analyze disks in disk management.  However, the new drive is not recognized.  The SATA port on the motherboard could not work or did I buy the bad, perhaps, hard drive enclosure for my system?  Or something related to the software?  Thank you.

    Hi Donnadream,

Connect the hard drive to another port and check if that makes a difference

Step 1: You can follow the steps mentioned in the article below, which deals with a similar question

A computer that is running Windows XP cannot detect a USB, an Apple iPod flash drive or an external hard disk drive

Step 2: Download and install the latest drivers from the chipset of the computer or the manufacturer of the motherboard and check

Step 3: Hard disk can be turned off in the BIOS; You may want to enable

Important: Change BIOS (Basic input output system) /semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

If the problem persists, it is a hardware problem, contact the manufacturer of the hard drive for a more specialized help

  • Satellite L20-214 - isolate bad sectors on the HARD drive?

    Dear Sir

My laptop fell off my table leading to serious hard drive problems. The hard drive now has some bad sectors that can be repaired with the chkdsk command. I managed to get my data on an external hard drive. Despite the bad sectors, I can reinstall it however from the recovery cd. Starting after that time consuming (1.5 hours) and after starting Windows I get the error messages from programs that cannot be started. It's the same thing after each reinstall. My guess is that the recovery disk writes data on the same spot every time both on bad sectors.

I was wondering if theres a way to fix or even isolate bad sectors on the disk, so I can continue to use my laptop.

    Your help is very appreciated.

    Hello

You can try HDD Regenerator 1.61 (HDD Regenerator is a unique program for regeneration of physically damaged hard disk drives. It does not hide bad sectors, it really restores them).
However, the best way is to buy a new hard drive :)

  • Satellite L500 - 19 X - bad sectors on my HARD drive?

    Hello world.
I bought this Toshiba Satellite L500 - 19 X nine UK July 2010 (500 GB, 4 GB RAM). I was working well until March 2011, when he began to work more slowly and more slowly and eventually crashing, forcing me to do a clean install of Windows 7. I did it several times now, and now when I start it, CHKDISK comes intu action, wanting to check drive C for errors. If I allow it, he made it for about 5 hours, restarts and suddenly upward at the Windows logo. I had to format it when it reaches this stage, so now I cancel CHKDISK checking disk. It seems I have bad sectors on my computer causing this problem. Today, I tried to install Linux on a partition (4parititions in total) but he wouldn't get away, it freezes.

Please help me, what I do with it.

    Thanks in advance,
    Frank.

    Hey,.

I agree with the user above. If your laptop has guaranteed valid contact the nearest authorized service provider:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > find an authorized service provider

Other Exchange the HARD disk yourself because it s not very delicate. It takes 5 to 10 minutes only ;)

    Thanks for your quick response

    Hello

You mean the logical bad sectors or physical bad sectors?
Logical bad sectors normall can be restored and difficulty without losing existing data using some tools, but physical bad sectors is not repairable and his need to backup the data to prevent from losing

As far as I know if you have a hardware problem you should contact the authorized Toshiba maintainer in your country.
You can also try to talk with garage for a possible replacement.

  • Satellite L300 - several bad sectors on HARD drive

    Hello

I'm very angry with my Satellite L300 - 14G. One morning, my computer refuses to boot Vista, each attempt ended with a crash and go back to the choice of startup (with 'repair my computer', 'safe mode' and 'start windows normally').

I could save my data with a utility disk and try to "HDD Regenerator V1.71", which located a number of bad sectors on the HARD disk. I decided to put my computer as on the first day with the built-in utility.
Two weeks ago, the same problem.

I bought another hard drive and replaced it. Reinstalled Vista and my data... 1 month later... still the same problem (currently HDD Regenerator is scanning and find bad sectors 185!)
I don't think that would be caused by a virus. I use Nod32 and I don't do anything illegal with my machine.

Some mistakes seem to be generated every day... until the crash of the OS...
Anyone have ever seen such a problem?
(I bought in September 2008... no guarantee more for my machine)

Let's take a look at your problem:

-hdd went wrong and you are using a third party program to fix
+ Why don't check you with "chkdsk" and read the smart values of the disc? +
-you bought another hard drive and after a short period of time the same failure occurs
+ was the new hard drive, a big and cheap or a little and a little expensive? +

We will analyze what happened to your hard disks:
-recovery written datas sectorwise back in training > bad sector crashed > and an error occurs
-second hdd also went wrong > if this isn't a sustainable (expensive) hdd, it went bad because of operation > do you often take your laptop with you?

    This brings me to:
-check the smart get more information
-chech crc when reading from another source on the hard drive to verify if the hard drive or the controller or your memory gone bad
-get a 'good' hdd or spend it on tests
-make a recovery and everything right after a chkdsk to make sure that the file structure is ok before working with

I never heard of a disk controller brocken on the motherboard of this distributor - but what I know...

  • Y410P does not recognize the drive HARD and "Bad sector found" errors

Hello, having problems with my son's laptop. He has recently updated to Win10 and after a day, the computer would not boot and did not recognize the existence of an operating system. I was able to create a bootable USB 8.1 and the operating system is now operational. However, there is no reconition of the HARD drive only SDS. The BIOS shows as available but who runs the Lenovo's Diagnostics tool (results below) translates into bad sector errors. Is there a way to recognize/recover the drive or do I need to replace? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Dave

Thank you for the interpretation. Is there something specific that allows me to know that the ST1000LM024 of HARD drive is defective? I guess that I'lll need something to get a claim under warranty. Thanks again.

The last part of your post (smart test) says that it is defective. To confirm this further you can try to physically remove the hard drive and connect it to another computer as an external drive or a secondary drive for further tests using the manufacturer's diagnostic program. BTW, Seagate is the manufacturer of the disk hard so that you can go to their site and download their program.

  • Bad sectors on the hard drive

My neighbor's daughter brought me his cell phone more, g6-1d20ca model. It does not start. There is a loop on the text of recovery. I ran my "CD Boot" (Hiren s) on this topic and saw that the hard drive was littered with bad sectors. The HD is obviously toast. My Question: Is - this acceptable once I replaced the HD to load my version of Win 7 64 bit on his cell phone, but the use of its Windows product key? The part of the recovery of the HD is inaccessible. It's never the disks when she bought the laptop. I then download the drivers and others on the HP website. Is this legally possible?

    Forward to your response.

Yes, as long as your version corresponds to its key. Like Home Premium.

You can order a recovery media for about $17 (I ordered last time) of his models support page:

  • Cloning hard drive with Clonezilla failed, gave a bad sector error message and now the original hard drive will not boot

    Original title: startup problem

I tried cloning from my hard drive with Clonezilla, and he gave me a bad sector error.  I have since run the hard drive test in bios and it passed.  Anyway, clone has failed, and now the original hard drive will not boot.  My dvd player won't turn when I try to load the Vista repair CD (Vista Home Premium 32 bit).  Clonezilla removes the start settings for the original disc?  And if so, how can I restore it?  The computer starts just a black screen with a cursor at the top left.  When I install the hard drive in a box and connect it to another computer, it shows the partitions and files all seem to be there.

    Hi DougEisenmann,

Clonezilla is not supported by Microsoft.

If you are unable to boot from the Vista repair disk then you will need to go into the system BIOS and make sure that it is configured to boot from the DVD drive.
