Banned file type

I have Microsoft Office Starter on my computer and used not to have problems.  Lately in Windows Live Mail (2011) I get the message "forbidden file type.  This message contains an attachment whose file type is considered dangerous.  The file has been disabled. "I get a newsletter of the countries section shows the police every month and it still attracts this message.  I was in the section options and disabled the box under the Virus Protection, which says "do not etc.."  This has the effect to clear the bits off the message, but then when I try to open the attachment, I get a box come tell The Microsoft Office product needed to open this file is not installed on your computer (and asking me to upgrade).  It says the doc. I am trying to open Microsoft Word and is now recommended, I buy the Mic. Office home & student.  WHY this suddenly become necessary?

In addition, my husband has tried to attach a document created in Word on his computer to an email and got this same message subject prohibited file type - how is this possible?  Would be grateful for any help, please.

The version of Office that I have is Office Starter and came ready to install on my Dell laptop would be so I can re - install it?

-> You must purchase a license for all Office products, even pre-installed ones. The first license expires after 30 days.

I tried your third suggestion in its entirety, but with the same initial negative result - he says just make me buy a Microsoft Office program that will allow me to open this type of file.

-> What happens when you start MS Word directly, either through shortened sound?

The only way I found to date to read these documents is to choose to open in Open Office

-> OpenOffice is a free product. If it meets your requirements, use it!

I might try your idea of system restore, because as far as I know, I have nothing to change my files in libraries in the first place

-> Click on the globe to start, then help, then search for help on the restoration of the system to determine what exactly this tool and will not do.

I lost some very important documents

-> A lot of people don't care about their important or irreplaceable files backup regularly (e.g. every week) until they are suffering from a major disaster. It is usually a very painful lesson.

  • No option to save the file, type of content/file missing in the list of Applications

I want to be able to click on a link to a file and have the option to open the file with a specified application.

When you click on the file I want to open with a specified application, I get a save or cancel the option.
When I look in Preferences > Applications, the file type is missing from the list.

It worked. It no longer works. It is not a problem with the Web site. I need to know where in FF settings I can change that.

Have you checked how servers send the files?

  • Can't open associated application of unknown file type

I'm trying to download or open a file type of .psdata for which I have an installed application but when I click on the FF link simply opens the file that displays a page of binary data of course.

FF used to open this file correctly, but now it does not.

    Thank you

With what type of content is the server send the file?

    • Tools > Page Info > general

If Firefox displays the file in a tab, then it is likely that the server sends the file as text/plain.

  • I set firefox to open a file type (.) SGF) w / a program, but it doesn't, so I put it to save/apply and no work option, it always opens file link in a new tab.

I went into Options and set the. SGF with Smartgo open file. He refuses to do. Clicking on a link to one. SGF file simply open the file as a text in a new tab.

Given that it did not work, I tried to get firefox to download instead, because then I can open it using the window file type associations. It will not download the file, unless I actually do a right-click and save-as in the link.

It is tedious when displaying a lot of these files. I even put it to wonder after seeing the download option did not work. He don't ask me. What happens here?

    Also, I use firefox 23

EDIT: It seems to be the specific Web site. Some sites will allow me the option to open it in Smartgo, others just it open in a tab in the form of text. What is causing this gap and can it be overcome thanks to the browser settings?

A sample Web site to highlight the issue is:
    http://igokisen.Web.FC2.com/WR/LG.html
clicking on one of these links will not download, open, or ask questions about what you want to do with the file.

What happens if the server sends the file as text/plain.
You can see if you open "tools > Page Info > general": Content-Type: text/plain

Sent files that this way is always open in a tab.

  • How to import a backup of bookmarks in the file file type?

Well, I had a computer installed Windows Vista with Mozilla Firefox, but I was getting rid of him. Therefore, I used the backup tool to give me a backup file to restore on my new computer. The file is in the file type, not JSON or HTML file, even though I didn't know it was a problem. Now, this computer has disappeared and I try to get my favorites on it but it won't work. How to make this work?

What kind of backup do you have? A backup of the bookmarks Organizer or a backup using the program MozBackup?

If you have used MozBackup, you must install it on the new computer to decode the backup. http://mozbackup.JasnaPaka.com/

If you have used the bookmarks Organizer, you can simply add .json at the end of the file name.

  • Some file types are not not in the settings of Applications

    OS: Windows XP SP3
    Firefox 4.0 & Pale Moon 4.0.5

I have a problem when I download files from the executable (.exe) type. Previously, I checked the sign while Firefox will automatically download the file via the Download Manager. Unfortunately, some sites do not allow download with it. But when I want to change the setting, I can't find the type of executable files in the application settings. So, how I normally redownload? Help, please!

I think that you need should be in settings of the add-on - we.

Firefox tools > Options > Applications is for downloads that are in need of an application to open. The executables are designed to run directly on the operating system rather than be opened by another application. In addition, executable files are generally sent from the server with a generic binary file header, so Firefox will not be able to match up to the top with a particular file type.

  • Need help with the advanced file Type changes

Somehow all my folders of changed files option.  Instead of the folder when you click it, it opens the search.

I know where and what to change, just do not know how.  Under Tools > folder options > file types, I select "files" and click "Advanced".  Of course, it says 'find '.  I click on 'new' under 'action', I type 'open', but what should I put under "Application used to perform action:"?  It won't let me not leave the field empty.  When I looked to see how it was done in 'file', 'edit' is gray.  I tried to look on other computers, but everyone has Vista, Vista doesn't even have a tab "file type" under folder options and I couldn't find it anywhere else.

Even if you don't know the answer, if you could look to see what it says on your computer and let me know.  Like I said could not find on Vista, I am running XP.

Yes, I know that I can do a right click on the folder and open it, and that's what I do.  It really happened to be a pain in the you-know-what.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to save as Excel file type?

There is no type of Excel file under the feature "save under".  Is to include the Excel file type under this list anyway?  Attached snapshot.

    Hi NiCoder,

You have a number of different options to get data from the data portal DIAdem to Excel:

    1) record in TDM or PDM file and use the free Excel TDM importer to load the data into Excel

    2) Save to CSV file and use the Excel import feature built-in ASCII file to load the data into Excel

    (3) load the GPI - DLLS gfsexcel.dll and use the "file > save under...". ' option to export a data *.xls file

    (4) use an own VBScript to automate one of the above 3 options

    (5) use a VBScript custom to directly send each channel data of the data portal to a column of values in Excel via ActiveX

(Option 1) and (2) are easier if you want a purely interactive solution.  Option 1) exports all data and all the properties values.  Option 2) exports all data values and the name of each channel in the data portal, but none of the other properties.  If you choose to use option 3), know in advance that this feature is limited to 255 columns and will not export custom properties, only the properties that existed in DIAdem 8.1.  (Option 4) can add in any custom properties that do not appear in option 2).  Option 5) can export all data and all custom, properties but there are also the slowest option and implies more programming.
