BEFSR41 v. 1 - do not get IP WAN, updated firmware to update

I can get into the setup on the web.

I can ping.

ipconfig indicates that the LAN IP address is correct (192.168.1.1).

All lights are light up properly.

My internet connection works correctly (i.e. without the router).

I've upgraded to the latest firmware (for this version of the router which is v.1, yes it's old).

"But... under the tab"Status"in the setup, when I type"Release DHCP", then on DHCP renew," the WAN IP address is 0.0.0.0.  How can I force this thing to look for an IP address?

Just can not know what does not work!

Any ideas?  Thank you!!!

(Mod Note: edited title)

Assuming that you have a good ethernet cable between your BEFSR41 and router upstream (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem"), I guess the router upstream ISP (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem") is looking for a particular MAC address and is to remember your computer (since you've tried things wihtout the BEFSR41).  You have two choices.

(1) turn off the router upstream (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem"), turn off the BEFSR41, wait a full minute, switch on the router upstream (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem"), let it resync to the line (takes a minute or two), then turn on the BEFSR41, see if it receives an IP address.

If no, then try

(2) to clone the MAC address of your computer on the WAN interface, repeat step 1.

  • Could not get the "Hide update" option in vista

I am unable to get the "Hide update" option in my vista. I keep getting invited to download a update that won't install. I followed the instructions to hide it, but when I right click the update option to hide does not show. What I am doing wrong?

Hey Cody. Thanks for your reply. I think I may have misunderstood Andre's initial response. In the meantime, I think I solved my problem. When I was invited to install the update again once I started doing that and then 'cancelled' after he began to try to install it. When I right click it (the update), while it is in this state of limbo the ability to 'hide' appeared magically in the selection box and I was able to chose him. I still don't understand why it does not show for me without going through this procedure. I hope I could make myself clear to you.

I'm using Vista which I believe is completely updated at the moment.

I've noticed lately that machine of Vista SP1 for my old Acer OEM of six months (all updates since 05/26/2010) don't show me not updated like today even if I force a manual check. It only offers me SP2.

Can uninstall these - for example, those before SP3 install?

XPI * not * get "clogged" with updates.  ;-)

Windows XP with all kinds of updates (if you started with no Service Pack and worked your way through to SP3, one at a time and all post-SP3 updates including those in option, you would still be below 10 GB - probably under 5 GB) is low.  If there is a lack of space, chances are it is * your * data or your installed applications.  Not only it would be imprudent to uninstall the updates that you have properly installed - you would earn very little to do (in terms of space.)

You want to clean (including updates)?

Do a house cleaning and the dust of this hard drive:

You can free up disk space (will also help get rid of the things that you do not use) through the following steps:

Windows XP should take between 4.5 and 9 GB * with * an Office suite, editing Photo software, alternative Internet browser (s), various Internet plugins and a host of other things installed.

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
    5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

Cleaning the components of update on your Windows XP computer

While probably not 100% necessary-, it is probably a good idea at this time to ensure that you continue to get the updates you need. This will help you ensure that your system update is ready to do it for you.

Download and run the MSRT tool manually:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

(If asked, select 'Run'). --> Click on NEXT--> select 'I agree' and click NEXT--> where he completed the installation, click "Finish"...

    Reset.

Now reset your Windows with this FixIt components update (you * NOT * use the aggressive version):
How to reset the Windows Update components?

    Reset.

Now that your system is generally free of malicious software (assuming you have an AntiVirus application), you've cleaned the "additional applications" that could be running and picking up your precious memory and the processor, you have authorized out of valuable and makes disk space as there are no problems with the drive itself and your Windows Update components are updates and should work fine - it is only only one other thing youpouvez wish to make:

Get and install the hardware device last drivers for your system hardware/system manufacturers support and/or download web site.

If you want, come back and let us know a bit more information on your system - particularly the brand / model of the system, you have - and maybe someone here can guide you to the place s x of law to this end. This isn't 100% necessary - but I'd be willing to bet that you would gain some performance and features in making this part.

If you do all that - probably your Windows XP machine will run better she never has.

  • SA520W does not get an IP on the WAN option

  • EA6500 will not get the rental

Small business, under 10 computers, printers Wi-wired and wireless, simple network. Don't no need (nor yours especially) Smart Wi - Fi, Cloud Connect, or or anything other than a simple router configuration manually. Have a new EA6500 I intend to use in replacing an E1000 who plays up (must be reset to zero every morning) connection to Verizon East (former GTE) aDSL. Connected the EA6500 to a laptop via ethernet, router password changed even as E100, put in place redirects it two port I need (IP addresses on the internal network are static in the 192.168.1.0/24 block), DHCP server changed to start at 101 (don't ask), leave the Type of Internet Connetion setting "Automatic Configuration - DHCP" (the same as E1000) close the two routers and modem (Westell 890-210015-04 wire speed). Connect to EA6500 for modem, turn on the modem, router, switch and...

Nothing. Not getting any external IP address via DHCP.

If I switch back to the E1000, it immediately picks up the lease of the IP.

    So what hurts?

No, I can't use PPPoE (former GTE is DHCP, as I mentioned), no, I have no intention to replace a modem to work when it has nothing to do with the problem, I need to clone the MAC address.

The solution was simple, and the problem (I suspect and implicit in my original post) was my mistake. I simply forgot to release the lease on the old router before attempting to obtain a lease on the EA6500. Tested with my home system (to avoid downtime in the shop) and the EA6500 cheerfully acquired a DHCP lease on my home DSL after I published the lease on my DD - WRT router.

Of course, to get the EA6500 to release the lease so I could return to my router has been a nightmare, with the flaw in the firmware (more precisely, the pride of programmers) who does not have an exit without renewing. Had the time tearing the WAN cable (oh, just, Cisco calls an 'Internet' cable) on the modem shortly after hitting the 'release and renew' link - took a few tries, but eventually caught after the release, but before he could renew selfishly.

    3 Ping 192.168.1.1 = success

    4. connected to 192.168.1.1 via web browser

    5. set the MAC Address = MAC address of the computer

    6. the MTU value = Auto (1500).  Also tried manual 1492

Could not get the IP address by using the version of IP address and IP address renew.  Address Internet IP still = 0.0.0.0

Note that the web page will be still stuck after perfoming some actions (such as after switching between the tabs).  Message at the bottom of the browser is "Wating for http://192.168.1.1/Status_Router.asp.  And the hourglass on the screen away.

Note that the old Netgear router still works fine and I am currently connected to the internet via the Netgear router.   I'd appreciate any help getting the new Linksys router connection/operation/obtaining of internet and IP address.

    Thanks for your help.

I do not know where I was unclear: you wrote before you used the function of the cloning mac address on the WRT to clone the MAC address of the PC. In this way the WRT "pretended" to be the PC if you connect to the internet port WRT to your modem.

However, the PC is not the device you used before you connect to the internet. The PC was not the device that was connected to the modem before. If you connect the computer directly to your modem it will either be an IP address. There will be no internet.

The problem is that your ISP only allows you to have an active internet connection single at some point. If you plug in a different device with a different MAC address to your modem this device won't get an IP address. That you have connected the Netgear router to your modem and you have internet, then you need to clone the MAC address of the Netgear router. This is the device that is connected to your internet connection and it is the MAC address that your ISP has locked your internet connection.

So, once again: clone the MAC address of the router netgear (internet or WAN port MAC address) of your Linksys router. Then the Linksys's router Netgear and your ISP should accept the Linksys router. The netgear router should have a status page in the web interface, showing you the right MAC address to be cloned.
