BerkeleyDb: safely remove environment files

I use BerkeleyDb in a project. I have a few environments composed of several files. Sometimes, I need to delete some of these files.

When I remove the file with the file system, open environment triggers an error no file or directory.

There is a way of deleting a file safely in environment of BerkeleyDb?

If you delete some files that are needed for the environment, then the expected error is the error you get.

If you delete files then you need to put them back before opening the environment.

If you can you please explain what you're trying to do, then I can give a more detailed response.

If you take a look at the programmers reference manual, chapter i, section 11, we have information

create, rename, remove files and resources supported to achieve this goal.

Thank you

    original title: fragmentation of files

How can I know which files fragmented, I can safely remove? Some of my fragmented files are system files.

Fragmented files are not bad! At worst, need another millisecond or two for the system read this file.  If the file is rarely or never accessed, so there no performance impact at all.  When you delete files from your machine, fragmentation does not fall within the decision-making process. If you don't remove them if they are not fragmented, then you should not remove them, period.  If you mind really that a file is fragmented after you run a standard defragmentation, there are programs out there as freeware "Contig" that defragment almost anything.

    Hi dem1uth,

Welcome to Microsoft windows vista forums!

APPDATA: Stores the path to the folder that contains the user-specific files that install applications. For example, Microsoft Word may install a custom dictionary to the location specified by the value of this entry. You can enter any valid Universal Naming Convention (UNC) or mapped drive name in the value of this entry.

Is it not recommended to remove the content from APPDATA, because it contains information of the applications.

  • Can I safely remove the Windows.old files?

What's up guys?, I have a Compaq Presario supplied with the Windows Vista operating system, 32-bit. I backed up all my drivers on DVD and I downloaded a clean copy of Vista using an ISO on a DVD burner. I reinstalled the new copy put in my original product key, and he agreed. I reinstalled my drivers and all seems to work fine. I transferred all my data, mp3, jpeg, etc. for Flash readers and/or new programs on the new OS. The reason for the new OS was a virus infection which partially damaged the registry.  I really want to keep these files in the system for obvious reasons. Can I safely delete the files "Windows.old" and what would be the best way to do it?

My hard drive is currently filled by PC DM files in my folder/Public user folder.  How can I safely remove the right files in this folder?  Vista Home Premium 64 bit is my os.

    Hi templar_39,

DM (Message Delivery) file types are not Windows files, they can be generated by a third-party program.

This particular file type is often associated with audio data and can be hosted on some cell phones to be used as ringtones or multimedia clips. To my knowledge, these files can be generated by your mobile phone.

Note: you can go ahead and remove these files only if you notice that the files do not contain any important information.

If this happens without connect you all devices (like mobile PHONES), this may be a virus or malware activity. You can run a virus scan to get rid of them

Step 1: A scanner online for any threat and try to correct

  • How to remove unused files under C:\WINDOWS

I really need disk space, but I don't want to destabilize the OS (Windows XP Pro SP3) environment.

I 279 copies a file named "update.exe" in many issues such as:

    C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB873333\update\ and C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\f2adb0f8440e5dbd459aa6bfcaed1ba5\update\

Each is approximately 755 576 bytes, for a total of more than 178 MB.

    1. Why do the cleaning and maintenance tools remove these files automatically?

    2. because all of these updates have already been implemented, can I safely delete these files manually?

    ---------------------

In the same way: I use IE8, but nearly 300 MB of files remain under: C:\WINDOWS\ie7updates\

I can't find a way to remove them using the control panel. Only shows of ' Add or Remove Programs "(change / remove programs) of the control panel:"Windows Internet Explorer 8 "and"Windows Internet Explorer 8 - software updates"but nothing for IE7.

In addition, "Add or Remove Programs" from the control panel (Add/Remove Windows components) provides no way to target these files.

    3. What is the best way to delete these files?

    4. the same concern for MS .NET Framework: I use 3.0. Delete them all all the elements for the Framework 1.1 and 2.0 SP2?

I would really appreciate factual information! Thank you!

LEAVE THE FOLDER $hf_mig STRICTLY ALONE OR YOU WILL BREAK WINDOWS. Use CCleaner to remove temporary Internet files instead of doing it manually.

It is not as useful as you think it's your partitioning scheme. It's OK to have a separate partition on the same hard drive for data files (documents, photos, music, etc.) but it is absurd to put program install files to a different partition because they will need to be reinstalled in any case if you need to do a cleaning of Windows. On the desktop, I prefer just to add a second internal drive of the data instead of a single disk partitioning. I doubt very much that your page file and temporary files on a separate partition gave you any help appreciated speed/efficiency. Better to have just enough RAM. You can change your partitioning with third-party partitioning such as Acronis Disk Director, Easeus software, etc.

You forgot to mention the size of your disk is. If it is less than 250 GB, I wouldn't bother this partitioning at all. Back to the top of your data for drives external hard like you are already doing. For easier recovery, use a program like Acronis True Image imaging and your system to work perfectly the image and save the images on the external hard drive. TI can make an incremental backup image so that your images are always fresh.

  • Impossible to safely remove external USB HDD - ejection of mass storage device problem

    Hello

I have a 250 toshiba external hard drive. "When I go safely remove device and click on stop, guests me that ' ejection of mass storage device problem and try later.

Is there a reason for this? As I have heard it is dangerous to pull the cord without stopping it first.

This happens usually when something is always access to the USB - HDD.
Yes, it s dangerous to pull on the cable, because you can lose some data and the file system may be damaged. But if you have a situation where you need the drive to take with you and want to just get out the cable to the USB port there is a little trick to disconnect the security apparatus:

Do right click on 'My Computer'-> click on Hardware-> click "devicemanager"-> go into "diskdrives"-> then you need to click on the drive that is your USB - HDD-> with the right button and then click on 'Properties'-> in the menu properties of this drive, you must go on "policies" and click on "optimize for quick removal"-> and then click OK and exit this menu and all-> perform a reboot-> closing information fact. :)

After that, it s safe for remove you your drive even if it s not ejected. :)

  • Can I remove the file 'SaveData.mig' after I run Windows Easy Transfer?

Can I remove the file 'SaveData.mig' after I run Windows Easy Transfer?

I used easy transfer to move files from an old computer to my new about 12 months ago. The SaveData.mig file takes 22 GB of space on the new computer. I would like to remove it but I don't know if it will mess up all my files that have been transferred to my new computer. Anyone know if I can delete this file in order to free up space? Thank you

I agree with Mohdrafi - you can remove safely; However, you should have a more recent backup of your current files just to be on the right side (image FULL weekly backup and an incremental backup every day for an external HARD drive - I've seen too many people get burned when their drive hard breaks down or something worse and then they lose all their precious documents (, photos, audio and other files).  There ARE recovery procedures, but they don't always work, and they don't always get everything (especially if you expect to solve the problem or continue to use the PC in the meantime)- and depending on your version of Vista.  Delete this file will NOT affect the files and settings that you restored using the process.  Could have deleted it hours after that the process has been done (once you have a good backup) and it would have been very well then.  If you have a good backup, I can see no reason whatsoever to keep the file.

If the normal delete function in Vista doesn't work, try using one of the following free products to remove the file.  Unlocker to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/). These programs often work when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.

Congratulations to the use of Easy Transfer - this is a pretty cool tool isn't it?  Not sure how many threads that we have here people with issues or recoving given him--I saw a lot.  It seems easy on the surface, but when it doesn't work it can become quite complex and aggravating (and I know people who have unfortunately never were able to retrieve their data and settings no matter what we tried).

    I hope this helps.

My computer (drive C) is a 9 GB of satiety, and I need to reclaim space for data.  Can I safely delete the files in the folder of reconstituted under my documents document library?

If not, how can I recover more disk space?

    Hello

You must understand a basic first concept.

Libraries in Windows 7 do not contain the physical files. They show only a virtual display of the physical files that are contained in other physical files that have been added to the library.

    Example:

By default, the Document library displays the files that are contained in the C:\Users\your utilisateur\Mes Documents folder and the folder C:\Users\Public\Public Documents .

If you simply right click and delete the Document library, it will not add any free space on the C: drive.

To add free space on the C: drive, you need to remove the C:\Users\your utilisateur\Mes Documents to the folder that contains the actual files.

Before you do, make sure that you have backed up the files you do not want to lose.

The best way to add free space on the C: drive, would be to move the Documents and other user folders to another drive internal or external.

See the Second Option in the following tutorial.

Creative Memories Photo Manager probably ejected your camera after you import the images. Check the default settings and change them if you prefer something different.

If your camera is not displayed as ejection, it is safe to remove it. Damage to the file system wouldn't be possible, but not certain, if he had written active file or buffer not released when the device has been deleted.
