I want to upgrade my computer to edit it. I have an iMac 2011: 2,5 GHz, memory 4 GB, AMD Radeon HD 6750 M 512 MB. I plan to buy another iMac. with a budget of $2500, what would you recommend for best performance for editing? I would emphasise quality video card, memory RAM, or disk (4 cores, 7 carrots, fusion, etc...)?

Download video card with MOST of the vRAM.  That means generally that you will also get the quad core i7 with Turbo Boost technology (acts like one 8 cores when you need it - and presents itself as 8 cores with MenuMeters.) The 2013 iMac had a 'backdoor' easily add RAM, and if this is always the case - buy an extra set of 16G of Crucial or some other 3rd party and add it yourself - you will make savings (if I remember) about $200.  If I had to start everything, I would have also obtained the reader of the merger, but the internal (regular) hard drive in the iMac Gets a pretty decent read/write speed (about 130 MB/s) but not what you really want with video editing. The proposed internal SSD is fairly low, so, I generally recommend external SSD drives and their construction schedules. USB3 is fast. Love at first sight would be better, but it's still expensive. An SSD in USB3 is quite impressive (I get about 300-400 MB/s R/W for one and 370-435 on the other). You can get a USB3 box for $10-$40 (Amazon has a housing Kdlinks now, limited time, for only $9.95!) and you can find a 500 GB SSD for under $ 200 these days. I bought Crucial SSD (I have a little bit o 'too o' Scottish blood in me), but what I've read, the Samsung EVOs are among the fastest (~500MB/s).

-VRAM so Max it is possible! (- what it takes to get this top of the line card... graphics you have it.) - and lotsa RAM (you can buy 8 with mac + 16 crucial for 24 which will give respectable service) - fast external drives are a nice addition.

  • Best laptop for editing in Photoshop

Best laptop for Photoshop editing? 2015

If you want to stay with CS6 avoid a laptop with a high resolution screen.  Photoshop UI will be weak and unusable.  Save your money get a laptop with an LCD display with a resolution around 100 PPI.

Surface Pro 4 is not announced yet rumor is there will be two sizes, 12 "and 14" both will had poster with 2160 x 1440 pixels as the Surface pro 3. Screen 14 '' PPI will then be 140, which should be good for CS6. Windows 10 I hear will be also shipped on the Surface 4 so far the Word Pro is Windows 10 will be better than windows 8 and free for Windows 7 and 8 users.

  • Best Config for readers

I feel like I'm a freshman again, and yet I develop my own game edition. Clearly a lack of understanding, which leads to my ignorance I/O stock. I heard it suggested to use RAID 0 for a fixed return for 8 or 12 GB file, cache of media, previews and rendering files. And this same person suggested a single drive for the media. Four questions: 1: when I play back, say, a split quad in real-time with the MEP, am I not taxing media player for most of flow? RAID 0 is imposed at all, being that I do not use rendered files? 2 when reading a timeline made, is not the layer essentially a stream of data, since all the layers are made to one, so I think this might be the only drive...  3. What is the difference between previews and rendering files? I always thought they were synonymous.  4. What is media cache and what is requirements such as I/O? Should it get its own player or can she shared with another stream of data? Please note that when I say "I think that" it is ignorance that makes me think this way and that's why I'm asking someone who clearly understands the data stream. I apologize in advance if any of you are yourself repeating for the 13, 000th times the other messages that I have not read, but I bet that a plethora of other participants in the Forum will receive responses to these 4 questions answered together. Send streams of media bad readers or in conjunction with other data streams which should not be shared on the same drive can be a major bottleneck. Maybe you can list your drive configuration and you have been delegated to each disk. Since I was the one asking for help, I promise not to punish for the answer you give! (Actually I wouldn't punish you if you were the one request seeking help...)

    Felix,

Start with the fact that sequential reading is the fastest method of getting data on a disk. Random writing is the slowest to get data on a disk, with sequential write then.

When rendering a chronology, with lots of small files, this difinitely is written, but in some cases may be closer to randiom written, only sequential, depending on the length of transitions and effects.

During the purification through a chronology, it is read once according to the length of yellow or green areas in the chronology is a sequential read for yellow and can approach random playback for melted areas.

Each situation must be considered in relation to the number of available disks and the planned RAID. With a raid0 of two discs, the risk of data loss is twice higher than a single disk. What data do not really count, is that they lost, well, that is data that are easily re-created, as the file exchange and rendered files, so it is perfect feeling, due to the nature of access to these data in a stream of edition and an aspect of security, use them on a raid0.

Multimedia files, including with tapeless processes, would often disastrous to lose. In a workflow tapebased may resume, but not in a tapeless workflow, so data security is much more important and must for that reason alone not endangered on a raid0.

If there are a limited number of records, let's say only 3, outside the OS disc, often even better is no raid at all, but use them as a single Disk. The situation changes when you have, say 5 discs. Then a 5 drive raid5 may be the more attractive option.

See my response makes you referring, in the light of your question, ask which of the two options was the best!

Preview/render was used because some people speak only files render, others on the preview files, but they are one and the same.

I realize that my disk configuration is rather rare, but this is my setup:

    C: OS and programs, Velociraptor

D: Pagefile, temporary files, cache of media, various, 2 x 1 TB raid0

    E: projects, media, make files, 12 x 1 TB raid30

A: Stock images and audio, 1 TB

    B: exports, 1 TB

Hope this explains a bit and no problem to ask.

  • What are the best practices for editing files .mov (output of a Ninja Blade ProRes recorder) on a PC?

We recorded using our recorder ProRes Ninja, resulting in files large .mov (as expected). While my Mac laptop is capable of playing Quicktime files, my PC cannot of course. In the meantime, I create compressed copies of the files (such as .mp4s) for sequencing on my PC, because it is a much more powerful machine. However, I don't know how to use these compressed files affect the quality of the final product.

I have to encode files .mov to a different output for use on my PC, is there a way for my PC read uncompressed files or .mp4 files will be sufficient for the high quality of desired output?

    Thanks for your help!

For a PC, you have to download the Quicktime Player... Although I found that the best work, go ahead and get the Qt Pro license (bit less $ 30) seem to make the best out of my 1080 p mov files. Many users pc found here as soon as they have downloaded Qt, their mov worked well. So... you should be able to use fine as-is in mov codec after d - l QuickTime or at worst, Qt Pro license number is entered in your Qt player.

  • Best config for uplink for VSphere

    Hi all

    I recently bought two Dell R710 with NIC 8 + 2 x 520 FPS + iSCSI traffic.

I designed the following config: (excluding the iSCSI)

    * 1 liaison rising vmkernel-management

    * 1 liaison rising vmotion vmkernel

    * 2 liaison rising vmkernel-nfs

    * 4 uplink for the VM network

As the storage solution is mixed with iSCSI + NFS, we wanted to provide a high resilience to the backend NFS with two uplinks dedicated.

In addition, vmotion, management and nfs services are in different VLANS in a stack of Catalyst 3750.

Management interfaces are configured in the cisco access mode, so without trunk vlan exists in any interface.

My problem is the NFS traffic is travelling through the uplink of management:-$...

Would be a good idea to join all the rising management (nfs, vmotion, mgmt) in a vswitch and configure an lacp in cisco devices to provide resilience and balance the vmkernel services? Or it is preferable to maintain the current design?

Of course, any other ideas are welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

    Julio

LACP would be the way to go, because you also need the traffic for vmware kernel FT.

  • best setting for editing again for a while hard coding

Hi im using a pmw - ex1, I recorded in 1080i, and I want to create a video summary of the games, so I wanted to encode videos to bring them first to chop it up... i already tried mpeg 4, but it seems wrong in first someone can suggest something for me?

Understandable. You don't have to worry about your original project. Instead, make a Save_As and maybe add 'strong' to the name. This does two things:

1.) creates the PRPROJ file and folder structure, where you guide

2.) basically closes your original project and opens a new. It happens so fast you can see would be the change of name at the top of the GUI.

Now, in your "Highlight" project, you can remove assets (project Panel), sequences, etc., are not necessary.* change properly and properly export.

    * Once you're done, look at project > delete is not used (unless "which has been moved to CS4?)

    Good luck

    Hunt

[Edit] Craig can quickly check if delete unused was moved to CS4.

  • Best Config for the new MBP 13 "retina? (decide between the RAM and the space... i7 also confirmation is worth)

I'm in the market for a new MBP 13 "retina and I have a few questions about where max out of the unit.

What I have... I currently have a renovated MBP 13 "retina, end 2012, 2.9 GHz, 8 GB to 128 GB of storage. I was especially pleased with this machine. I love the SSD and the quick start. The only regions that in deca for me were video compression and storage of physical disk speed. I currently have about 30 GB HD free space, but it's because I'm a Spartan and store essential files only on the MBP. Without a doubt, I want to double my storage on the following I buy (at least it will give it more leeway to work properly).

What I do for a living... I am a writer and also a vlogger. I opted for the i7 chip because video compression is painful on the cell current, particularly H264. I use MS Word, Photoshop, Quicktime Pro and compression software to take videos and convert raw. MOV H264. So my core processing tasks, record audio/video and audio/video compression. I turn on photoshop work.

What I would like to get...

    • MacBook Pro 13 inch with Retina display
    • 3.1GHz dual - core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz
    • Intel Iris 6100 graphics card
    • 8 GB RAM
    • 256 GB HD

    My Questions:

    1. It is better to push either the HD or RAM, up to 16 GB or 512 GB, respectively? I can't afford both. Or does save $200. (I upgraded in general on 3-year cycles)
    2. I guess that the i7 will help with the compression of various media or export tasks I have? Usually, I have to record videos using the internal camera and then export it into a format more suitable for delivery. Same with the audio (except that I capture with a blue Yeti MIC). Basically, I want to just speed up export jobs and compression. To do this, I guess the i7 and turbo boost will shine?

Just curious if anyone has any advice... I would like to purchase today. Thank you! I'm leaning towards i7 with 256 SSD and 8 GB of RAM. Since I already have an i7 on my 2012 model, descending into the processor speed is not really sense (2.9-2.7). Nor do the same (2.9 to 2.9). I'd love to 16 GB of RAM, but it pushes the machine to near $2 K.

  • What is the best/best format to convert avchd, for editing?

What is the best format to convert avchd 1920/1080, for editing purposes?

I tried to convert HDV but did not like the quality. I then tried to convert avchd files raw in mpeg2 @ 35 Mbps. It of much cleaner, but makes it slow, about 1-1 ratio.

looking for a codec that is quick to convert & clean.

I have aPC, Win 7, 6 cores, 32 GB ram, Raid 0, fast cuda card ect...

AVCHD has the same as DV data rate, so shuttle that quickly will be not a problem hard drive, even a single disc, and still less a RAID 0 array.  If he stutters, it's one thing to CPU.

Conversion to another format will increase the flow of data significantly, requiring your RAID to redouble their efforts.  However, the CPU will probably work less, so this could solve the stuttering.

You can still add all the elements of a sequence and then add this sequence in the Source monitor for editing as if it were a long clip.

Having said all that, if you still feel the need to convert then I recommend the free and the UT lossless codec.  You can export the clips combined pp right, and new media will not suffer no loss of quality due to the conversion.

  • What is the best alternative for the Pages ' 09?

When I say 'better', what I want for me personally, is a suite of office or productivity app processor matches the characteristics and versatility of Pages ' 09; its other applications still compare well with other iWork applications; He has a history of integration with OS X; and it is well documented with good support. Also, for me personally, is less of a concern because Microsoft Office is available at a reduced cost as I am part of a society not-for-profit. I don't want to limit the question to these characteristics, however, because I am hoping to start a discussion that could be useful to a wider range of people than just me, and I hope that the wider, a question as possible would be more likely to attract the attention of Apple developers to say that if I'm out of patience There are probably others who do the same. Why can't they just continue to support Pages ' 09 up to 5 Pages is substantially more flexible and rich, more closely resembling the Pages ' 09? I downloaded and deleted 5 Pages twice the frustration. I use an older iMac OS x 10.11.4.

Moreover, the "suites", whose names I know at least are Microsoft Office, OpenOffice Apache and LibreOffice.

I had started a similar thread and somehow managed to check the wrong box and marked "resolved". I'm trying again in a slightly different wording.

Apple's CEO and designer of programs/product/teams participate or read these messages because they are busy people. Instead, we are non-Apple employees who volunteer their time to help others solve problems. You can contact the team via the application menu Pages ' 09: provide feedback Pages.

Your 'best' office suite would be Microsoft Office for Mac 2016 as a replacement for iWork ' 09 apps and their current impostors of Apple. You need to export your Pages documents in Word .doc, because no application in the world can open (faithfully) Pages ' 09 documents but Pages ' 09.

With office for Mac 2016, you will work in the native Microsoft document architectures such as with the Windows Office 2013 and 2016. No translation on the import or export of worry. Just pure document exchange. You can even open a PDF file for editing in Word for Mac 2016.

LibreOffice, although free, has a steep learning curve, is a Clone of MS Office and does not work in native Microsoft documents formats, although it can open and save in their. The format of the default document for LibreOffice is the Open Document Format, an international standard.

Yyes, if you want to use with Windows. Use a separate drive for Time Machine. Whose combined libraries of the PCF and Time Machine on the same drive.

  • Best app for the batch processing of photos for the web?

I would like to know what is the best application for batch processing photos for the web quickly and easily. I'm a web editor and often need to resize, compress, or crop several photos and would like a quick way to configure the basic parameters and processes for example 20 pictures at once. Basically, I'm looking for something with the ability to FastStone Photo Resizer (I'm on a Mac and cannot use FastStone). I remember an once suggested graphic designer LightRoom - would that be a good idea or Adobe has something else? Or maybe not Adobe at all?

PhotoShop seems heavy for this purpose: it is ideal to make the photo woth that much at the time, but less large to do less with many pictures at once. I know that I can implement some sort of macro-thingie, but I would like to be able to quickly change settings such as the percentage of compression or the width in pixels.

I don't need a lot of editing tools, mostly just work in pixels, resizing, compression or cropping and save for the web in .jpg and .png - and Mac.

I hope someone here can guide me in the right direction.

  • Best disk for my nice new laptop Asus ROG Configuration

    Hey everybody!

I just bought an ASUS ROG G752VT-GC046D (German Web site link), which has a 1 to 7200 RPM HARD drive. The computer has two empty 2280 m2 slots for disks SSD NVMe. I wonder what is the best configuration of disk while keeping my low costs? I do 1080 p video editing in Premiere Pro (30 FPS and 60 fps) and do a job after effects. I hope that the 4K video editing will be possible on this machine. But 4K is not a must, I would like to keep in mind when selecting disks.

    Data sheet:

    I7-6700HQ

    GTX 970M 3 GB GDDR

    16 GB DDR4 (2 of 4)

    FHD LED 17.3 "display

Maniboard: Intel CM236 (Skylake PCH - H) (im not sure at 100%, I found this on another website for G752VT)

    3 x USB 3

    1 x USB 3.1 / Thunderbolt

1000 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive

2 empty slots for disks SSD NVMe M.2

Discs cannot be configured in RAID

I have a 250 GB SSD 850 EVO in my old computer I can use (currently I use only this disk to edit). Speed reading and writing od 540 MB/s and 520 MB/s, respectively

    Configuration 1

    1 drive: operating system, programs, Pagefile - 128 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €65

    2 disc: media, projects - 1 TB 7200 RPM 2.5 "HARD disc

    3 disc: overview, media Cache, exports: 256 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €145

250 GB SSD 2.5 "or sold laying around EVO 850

    Investment = €210

    Configuration 2

    1 drive: operating system, programs, Pagefile - 128 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €65

2 disc: media, projects - 250 GB EVO 850 SSD 2.5 "(slower than PM951) SATA connectors"

    3 disc: overview, media Cache, exports: 256 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €145

    4 disc: backups & old projects - 1 TB 7200 RPM 2.5 "HARD disc

    Investment = 210€

I read the Page Tweakers on the configuration of the hard drive, but I don't know how to apply the knowledge practically while keeping in mind that I am not a super pro user with a huge budget but rather someone who wants to get better, but has a limited budget.

What are your thoughts on my Configurations, do you recommend improvements? Is the Configuration 2 the best bang for the buck (or euro)?

    Looking forward to your answers.

    Best,

    Gorazd

If you already have the evo 250 GB and you want to use into the laptop

    Disc 1-250 GB samsung 850 evo = os/apps/pagefile/db cache

    Disc 2-512 GB samsung 950 pro = project/media/previews

Disc 3-1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive = enclosure external usb for backups

So just buy a disc, the samsung 950 pro and a box external usb 3 for the 1 TB hard drive.

If you want to keep the internal 1 TB drive, then I think you have to go with two readers of m2. a pm951 of 128 GB or a little better sm951 for os/apps can work.

Skylake was almost a flop for the gain in performance over the last generation cpu. If new portable computers skylake are good for features such as Thunderbolt, which is good for the expansion or upgrades, including egpu.
