Best Dual Drive Setup Configuration

Hi guys,.

I have a Macbook Pro mid 2012 and I just installed a (840 Evo Samsung 250 GB) SSD in the connector sata main and moved the previous 500 GB HDD to the optical Bay.

How can I move files and say Dropbox and other records of large files only for work on the HARD drive and keep only the Mac OS x and some software on the SSD? It is with a terminal command should?

Given that the SSD is an exact clone of the HARD drive, sometimes it's even a little confussing where I am currently working on.  Should I make a folder named HARD drive with direct access to the office for?

Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I would like to get an opinion on what configuration would give me the best return on my laptop.

I have a Dell Studio 17.  It has two drive bays.  Processor quad core and 8 GB ram.

I'll reinstall the OS (Win 7 Ultimate).

I have two hard drives.  First, a 250gig Kingston Solid State Drive.  Two, a w/16meg cache 750gig Seagate 7200 RPM.

I am using the 250gig for OS and 750 for the data.

So here's my question, I would install CS5 on the C drive (solid state) because it is faster?  and where would be the best place to put the file media and zero?

I can put it all on C is that it is an SSD and much faster, but then I'm only using a variable speed drive.  Or should I it split and use two speed variators.  Of course, I guess that Dell uses only a speed for both drives control in which it is a mute point.  But I do know this for you.

In any case, open to all opinions.  Including installing the OS on the slower drive more, maybe using some partitions, leaving the 250 GB Solid State drive CS5.

    Thank you

I install the operating system and programs on the SSD, then place your support (and in this case, project & Scratch disks) on your D:\. First, almost all the Adobe programs really, really want to be installed on C:\. The goal is to divide the I/O load, as much as you can. That's why most recommend a HDD 3 x configuration, where C:\ is OS and programs, D:\ Projects and scratch the disks, then E:\ media. As you have only a 2 x, then a compromise will be necessary. The program will probably not benefit too from the SSD, but the operating system will be, especially at the start.

While having media and projects (more than scratch disks) on a drive unique HARD is not the ultimate, I do when I need to migrate projects between computers, and that's fine - but not the ultimate performance.

    Good luck

  • Best practices for the configuration of virtual drive on NGC

    Hello

I have two C210 M2 Server with 6G of LSI MegaRAID 9261-8i card with 10 each 135 GB HDDs. When I tried the automatic selection of the RAID configuration, the system has created a virtual disk with RAID 6. My concern is that the best practice is to configure the virtual drive? Is - RAID 1 and RAID5 or all in a single drive with RAID6? Any help will be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Since you've decided to have the CPU on the server apps, voice applications have specified their recommendations here.

I think that your server C210 specifications might be corresponding TRC #1, where you need to have

RAID 1 - first two drives for VMware

RAID 5 - 8 hard drives within the data store for virtual machines (CUCM and CUC)

  • Install WD Black2 Dual Drive on a Pavilion dv6t-7000

    Hello

I recently bought a new internal hard drive for my HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC and have some difficulties to install the drivers for it. I bought a Western Digital Black2 Dual disc, which is a hybrid disk with 120 GB SSD and 1 TB of HARD drive, but I can't access the 1 TB because the installer for WD drivers keeps returning an error code.

After much digging, I found documentation of the WD site that States the particualr error I received was due to one) the SATA mode to RAID in the BIOS, or b) an Intel driver a RAID reporting configuration. I can not check the BIOS settings myself, because the tab in the BIOS for this is hidden and locked down due to the fact that I'm working on a laptop of HP (I found answers on the forums for models with slightly different laptop computer that reported the AHCI is the default SATA for HP laptops) (, but unable to verify for my particular model). However, I was able to find an Intel driver that can cause the problem in the Device Manager. It is listed under 'Storage controllers' and is called 'Intel(r) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E SATA RAID Controller '. When you contact the service customer of WD, the representative has tried to help me change this default Microsoft Inbox Driver by following the process: (right click > update driver software > Browse my computer... > choose from the list of device drivers). Unfortunately, it was not useful because the afforementioned Intel driver is the only one available. I was a bit puzzled by that because I installed windows 7 from scratch, only adding the drivers from the HP site needed to establish a wireless connection to download the installation of WD software.

So basically I'm looking for help in these areas: a) to determine the particular my laptop model SATA mode, b) to understand why I have the default Microsoft Inbox Driver, c) installation of the Microsoft Inbox Driver default value or a Variant that works with AHCI, and/or d) any other course of action I could take additional troubleshooting.

Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (installation costs)

Laptop model: HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC

Hard disk: Western Digital Black2 Dual Drive

Error: A bad SATA mode in the BIOS or reported by the Intel driver

Pilot suspect: Intel(r) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E SATA RAID Controller

    Thank you kindly,

  • I lost my CD/DVD (dual drive) from Device Manager on my HP Presario using Win Vista Serv Pac 2 and IE 9.

Recently, I replaced my hard drive of my laptop HP Presario DV 9718 with Windows Vista. It is a 4 year old laptop, but it's always a good computer. I finished all downloads for updating Windows (some 200 + GB) as well as 2 Pac Serv and IE 9. I lost my CD/DVD (dual drive) and is therefore no longer in Device Manager. Help! My system works great and I downloaded through my print online from HP.com software to complete my installation to work around the CD/DVD missing which prevernted me from the CD of the software running on my printer in my CD/DVD drive. I know it is a malfunction probably related to updates of Windows not supporting the manufacturer of my CD/DVD drive, because it can be manufactured by another company or something to that effect. Anyone have this problem and can guide me through the fix for this problem so I can go in my life and enjoy my Presario completely once more?

  • Application of monitor Dell DDM with U2515H and U2412M dual screen setup and USB drive menu

    Hello

I have U2515H and U2412M independently connected with DP cable to GTX960 video card.

    Two questions;

    1.

I have the latest driver display and the last Application of monitor Dell DDM.  It detects U2515H OK but not U2412M.   necessary on the menu OSD is activated but still no go.    Is - this known issue?

    2.

Also with U2515H, curiously section USB tab energy on screen Menu (the one who press the button) is grayed out.  Can not choose how the power of USB hub behave when the screen goes into sleep mode?    What cause this menu to be grayed out?    Factory reset has no effect on this menu item.

Be aware that U2515H has been replaced by Dell last Friday with monitor construction January because the one originally, I got a defect on the bezel mounting, but this USB menu was selectable.   It was built in April/205.

    Thanks for the research.

(Updated the model type edition only)

There is no U2414M. Do you mean the U2412M? If so, the U2412M is not supported. It was an error in the web. DDM requires a year of Dell 2013 model year or newer.

There is no U25125H or U2525H. Do you mean the U2515H? From the U2515H Manual page 41 =
    USB
Allows you to enable or disable the USB function standby monitor.

NOTE: USB power standby mode is available only when the USB upstream cable is disconnected. This option will be grayed out when the USB cable upstream traffic in.

  • Questions about hard drive setup

    Hello

I just built a Pr/AE Setup for my cousin and the only thing left set up now is hard drives. I'm no expert in this so I came to ask someone more wise.

    So that's what I have:

    1. 1 x 500 GB Samsung 840 SSD for the os/programs

    2. 4 x 2 TB Seagate hard drives in a RAID5 configuration

    3. 1 x 60 GB Kingston SSD

I would be very grateful for any suggestion.

    You got it about now!

Your cousin will need to learn about the location of the file to the Bank and how to clean records scratch etc to use Agency.

About the 60 GB SSD, Yes to keep some of the files on it, but not to captured video / audio.

Netither Scratch files or cached files are not deleted when closing first.

  • Best Hard Drive performance for Audio

My MacPro 3.1 is about to be replaced with the iMac, so all my internal drives need to be changed too.

In Logic Pro 10.2 El Cap.

    Any recommendations?

The G-Tech 7200 RPM 4 Gig usb3 seems good quality but want to see if anyone has any better ideas?

You cannot change the drive HARD in-house on your own. You must order your new computer with the disc drive 7200 RPM for a top speed of a rotating disc. Otherwise, get a SSD instead or go for a drive of Fusion using the combination of 7200 rpm 1 TB drive HARD w/256 GB SSD or w/256 of HARD 7200 rpm 3 TB GB or 512 GB SSD drive.

If you use external drives, then the best choice would be to use a Thunderbolt case. USB 3.0 isn't quite as quick as lightning, but lightning are much more expensive. Hard to give useful advice, not knowing what kind of audio needs you have.

  • HP m8457c, hard drive setup

Hi I have the m8457c model, product number is KJ396AA #ABA. It has 2 x 320 GB hard drives.

I would like to know how the hard drives have been setup from the factory. Im guessing raid - 1, but I was able to deceive.

    Hello

No, these are two physical HARD drives. I know on the other platform, we can combine some HARD drives to a volume logic sighle but I don't think that we can do this in Windows at home (maybe wrong). You can combine partitions on the physical disk HARD EVEN to a single partition (also called player) but not on two physical HARD drives.

    Kind regards.

  • Suggested Drive setup for new h8 - 1360t with SSD and Raid-1 array

    All,

I need some advice on how to configure the drives in my new system (waiting for construction and delivery, sigh).

I bought a plan to replace the 1 TB drive with a new drive SSD that I start from and H8 - 1360T (Win 7 Pro).

I also have a Raid-1 array in an old HP 4999 T system (Vista) disks Western Digital Caviar Black 2x2TB

By looking at the motherboard plug appear to be only SATA0/1 6 GB/s, the others are 3GBPS.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03132942

I was a little surprised by that and need some advice.

    1. If I put the SSD on SATA0 or SATA1, the quickest way?

2 or do I put the drives Raid-1 array and move the SSD to path of 3 Gbps?

I think this last (option 2), but wanted to get your entry in case missed me something.

    Thank you

    Joel

    Ruette,

Thanks for your comments. Looks like I should start with Option 1 as a better starting point.

  • Drive setup that went wrong

Just got a second hand optiplex 980 i3, fitted with a single hard drive installed win 7 everything works fine, but just came to mount a second drive and have just realized l had not checked the parameters of raid bios when l first installation of windows, and the raid has been set to raid1. When I installed the second drive, he just trying to rebuild the mirror. If I disable this disk is not booting from raid can I recover what I don't want a raid configuration.

Remove the RAID before disconnecting the 2nd disc.  If you log out after completing the mirror, you will have 2 drives in RAID, and the two must have their codes of rewritten starting.  The other problem you might have is stated in my first post.  At least some Dell machines insist on having 2 eligible disks attached so that the CTRL-i option to be enabled.  If you are looking for the CTRL-i option with a single installed drive, you will never see because is not still pop up.
