Best way to gracefully shut down my VMware environment?

We have a failure and I would like to know the best way to feed all my VMs and hosts offshore.  Here's what I think to do:

-Disable DRS for Vcenter (it's a virtual machine)

-Start to turn off the virtual machine

-Enter in maintenance mode on the host ESX, then their power off

-All off the virtual computer will be on a due to the DRS ESX host

-The last of all power down from Vcenter

-Then use the VIC to get into the final ESX host and turn off with

To turn on I would do the following:

-Turn on the host with Vcenter ESX and then turn on Vcenter and begin to turn the hosts and VM

-Of course, I'd wait for the CC and SAN to come online.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thank you

Stem

When only vCenter and DC are always power - plug directly into ESX VM power down.

Wait until Windows stops, then you can just off ESX without maintenance. Simply because the maintenance means something, when you are connected to vCenter, ESX not directly.

  • VAPP Shut Down Action - does not?

    Hi all

I have a VAPP container configured with two virtual machines in separate groups. I have on each configured virtual computer (tab Start command) start and stop actions. For stop, I have everyone on 'Stop the guest PC' for he gracefully shut down the virtual machine. However, it seems that the VM is simply turned off and the "Guest Shutdown" option is simply ignored. I tried all the other options (Suspend, None etc) but when I stopped the VAPP - power of the virtual machine down.

    Start Up works perfectly however.

What throws me a bit, is that when I right click the TIME to select "Shut Down" - she tells me that I have to stop my guests FIRST, before I stop vApp. Why is this? I thought it was supposed to manage the order of start and stop based on the order of the Group and delays etc.?

I should add that all this runs in a LABORATORY of 4.0 Vsphere (No. Vsphere updated applied yet)

Any help with this is appreciated.

    Hello

You must use the 'Power Off' instead of 'Shutdown' option in the vApp.  The 'Power Off' option stops the virtual machine according to your settings.

    Best wishes / Saludos

  • Best practices for the design of a printing environment?

    Greetings,

If there is a better place for this, please let me know.

    Objective:

Redesign and redeploy my printing environment with best practices in mind.

Overview: VMWare environment running 2008 R2, with about 200 printers. I have a majority of printers HP ranging from 10 years old again. LaserJet MFP, OfficeJets, etc... etc... In addition to the copiers Konica, Xerox and Savin. Many of our models of printer are not taken in charge in 2008, and still less x 64.

Our future goals include services eprint, as well as the desire to manage the print quality, and levels of consumition by something like Web Jetadmin.

Currently we have a 2003 Server x 86 server running our printers very old and 6 months ago the rest on a single x 64 server 2008r2. We ended up not giving it the attention to detail, it is necessary and pilots have become very congested, this led to a PCL6 only, UPD update that ended up corrupting several drivers through the UPD PCL 5 and 6 of the spectrum. At this time, we brought a second server 2008r2 and began to emigrate to those affected. In some cases, we were forced to remove manually the drivers off the customer system32-> coil-> driver and reinstall.

I've not had much luck finding good best practice information and thought I'd ask. Some documents I came across suggested that I should isolate a universal driver to a single server, such as 3 servers for PCL5, PCL6, and Psalm then, there is the need to deal with my various copiers.

I appreciate your advice, thank you!

  • my computer shuts down about 2/3 of the way after that the progress indicator starts and stops... any suggestion as it turns on again?

Try to update of Itune, update got stuck, I turned to the computer off, impossible to restart... the indicator stops about 2/3 of the way and the computer shuts down again...

Start Safe Mode removes the system caches that can help.

Follow these steps to start in safe mode.

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. As soon as you hear the startup tone, hold down the SHIFT key.
    3. Release the SHIFT key when you see the logo Apple appears on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, this may take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your office. This is because your Mac performs a check of directory of your drive to boot in safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

    Then try to update iTunes.

  • best way to get XP for vmware fusion

I have vmware fusion 3.1.3 on macbook pro. I currently have a virtual machine, I installed win 2K Server. too old, too big. I need to get xp and do an installation. I tried to make a snapshot of the existing machine, but seemed to make mistake on the OEM version and wants me register and pay as the new. I have a win 7 pro machine, I guess I could try to make instant, but I was wondering if v3.1.3 will even run that? So, what is the best way to way (see below) to get a XP installation for my installation of vmware fusion run? Fiscally constrained, won't be upgrading to fusion or pay retail for XP anytime soon.

It will be VERY difficult to get copies of legitimate retail XP more.  Most of the things on eBay is also OEM, which is not available for use of the VM.

Do not forget that you must purchase a license of said too (the version on the existing machine is probably an OEM version too).

Why not just buy Win7 on amazon or costco?

The only other option is a sort of MSDN license, but these licenses cannot be used for production purposes.

  • What is the best way to collect newspapers to send to Vmware

    I have ESXi 4.1

I recently sent newspapers in support, on request, after we have a host to freeze on us.

They responded back that newspapers have not capture anything because a restart updated newspapers and only a syslog would be able to provide clues before a crash.

Is it true because it's strange that newspapers would be destroyed after a reboot.

The syslog offers a challenge because we cannot control the level of gravity on the host, so we threw ourselves with a lot of useless information.

We need the newspapers to find out why our guests are crashing and requiring us to restart.  On one occasion, we do not have vmotion virtual machines to another host.

Once we did it, but the host did not until we rebooted it.

What is the best way to collect newspapers send it to vmware for analysis?

    Thank you

    Falcone

On ESXi, if you create a partition important stripe, yes the newspapers would disappear on reboot.

Syslog is the right way to enter it.

  • 27gig upside down footage, the best way to change? Flip export then re edit or what?

Hi guys, I went on a ski hol recently and have 27gig down on a helmet camera footage, I'm really stuck on how best to modify, it is filmed at 60 frames per second at 720. Not sure if reverse all export and import the correct path upward and start editing from the source and, if that would be the best way of setting export to keep the out put to the same settings. Thanks in advance

To .avi I would try uncompressed (none), UT or Lagarith.
All them is likely larger than your original files,
but that's the price to pay for shooting backwards.
I favor uncompressed (none)... the files are a little smaller.

For Quicktimes, component or uncompressed without loss.
The Avid DNxHD codec becomes good review of quality depending on the size,
but I don't have any direct experience using it.

You could experiment with high speed I-frame only MPEG files.
and modify your own encoding settings to get what you want.

First, I'll start with a short clip and experiment with your results.
Some formats can read for you more easily than others,
and you don't want to encode alone to find reading
    is not what you expected.

Good luck and happy flipping file.

  • How to suspend, restart, shut down as default instead of Force *.

I know it's strange, but I still see "Force Suspend, restart of strength and force Shut Down" when I click on the menu 'Virtual Machine' WITHOUT hold down the Option key.  This also affects the behavior when I set the preference 'when you close the virtual machine"to"Turn off the virtual machine", as he always does force stops instead of a graceful.  Note I can hold the Option key to Force * to go and make the soft stop, but that's all just annoying.

So the question is, how can I make sure the normal shutdown of suspend, restart, are the default actions?

    My system is:

Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual - Core Intel Xeon

    Mac OS X 10.5.8

    VMware Fusion 3.0.1 (215242)

Windows XP SP3 VM (2 CPUs, 2048 MB RAM, 3D active)

    Thank you!

The default power options are controlled by the .vmx powerType.* entries, and I think that they are also affected by the question of whether the tools are installed. You want the following lines:

    powerType.powerOff = "soft"
    powerType.powerOn = "soft"
    powerType.suspend = "soft"
    powerType.reset = "soft"

(as opposed to the 'hard'). These should have been set this way automatically, but if you have imported the virtual machine from another source, they can be different.

Note that if the client does not know how to properly manage power plants, that does not help.

  • How often should I shut down my PC?

    Hello

I hope you don't mind me asking this question. I could not help but to know, using PC (laptop) is part of daily life, it is sometimes more than 10 hours to continue to run my laptop. So much pressure on it. In general, I'm used to shut down my PC each night before going to sleep and start the next day morning. We know all that I have other options are available also as keep my PC in standby or hibernate instead of shutdown. Now my question is what is the best way to practice in order to keep my PC in good health? I should everyday practical shout down and start over or I can keep it dormant until a few days etc. Which is good for practice? My PC is HP 430.

    Thank you

    Kind regards

    Hello

Check with the HP Support and their documentation online.

There are a lot of opinions, but I prefer the way that you do now. Start and stop

the computer frequently causes the device to heat and cool a lot which is more stress

on the material while leaving work. If you go for 2 + hours power on the monitor
off anyway so you should have white for any period of inactivity. Stop when
It will be on all night is also a good initiative.
