Better to use E1000 or VMXNET3

I am trying to create the new virtual machine on ESXi 5.5 and I was curious to see what everyone recommends in what concerns network cards. I see vmxnet3 is the most recent one is reasonable to assume that I should use for all new virtual machines?

Vmxnet3 is VMware's paravirtualized adapter, less overhead (so more speed) and 10 GbE connection. Only drawback, you have the VMware Tools installed in addition to all OS reviews ' her. So yes, I would go with that, but what guest operating system you try to virtualize?

We discovered a recent issue in our datacenter where our virtual machine guests will fall packages when using frames on the map virtual e1000 on a vSwitch configured for VST mode.  The guest operating system is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 update 6.

Ignored packets occur when the MTU has 9000 on the Linux OS.  The vSwitch is configured correctly for extended frames and we tested 2 virtual machines on the same hardware (and same VM network) as well as two different servers ESXi to verify this.

Our wireshark caputures revealed that the last 4 bytes of the payload of the packet are deleted.  An example is the package of sending on a single server was 8142 bytes and package receiver 8138 bytes.  Because of the difference, the TCP checksum fails and the packet is ignored.  Somewhere by the transfer of the 802. 1 q header is missing on one end and on the other, less the last 4 bytes at the end of the frame.

So far, our only workaround is to set the MTU 1500 on the Linux OS or use with MTU 9000 VMXNET3 adapter.  We use PXE to boot our virtual machines, that's why we chose to use the e1000 rather than the VMXNET3 adapter adapter (although RHEL 6 supports PXE with the new adapter, that's how good news in the future!)

    Hello

You cannot use e1000 with frames jmbo it as design of esx, only enhanced vmxnet (and vmxnet3) adapters are supported of extended frames. Cards other than enhanced vmxnet (and vmxnet3) adapters, for example the adapter E1000, unusable with frames. Attempts to change the MTU seems to succeed but the adapter always deletes more than 1500 byte frames.

  • What is better to use the database or persistence.

    Hello friends,

I have a doubt in relation to the use of the database and persistence.

I'm working on an application based on OS_v5.0, I use a database to store my data or persistence.

While it will be better to use as prospect of memory and speed.

    Thank you

There is no right answer here.  Include critical factors

    (a) the data structure - is that he opposes or ranks

    (b) the size of the data,

    (c) how the data should be used

    (d) what coding effort, you are willing to put in.

You must weigh all these factors before making a decision.

Maybe you can give some pointers in each of these areas and we can suggest how we were?

  • In general, is it better to use java.sql.Date and java.sql.Timestamp instead of oracle.jbo.domain.Date?

    Hello world

During playback of Oracle ADF Real World Developer's Guide, I noticed the dates match occurring in JDeveloper is different from what is the list in the book. JDeveloper is failing to oracle.jbo.domain.Date, but according to the book:

DATEjava.sql.DateDATE type is mapped to java.sql.Date if the column in the table is a no time didn't need information zone.
DATEjava.sql.TimestampDATE type is mapped to java.sql.Timestamp if the column in the table has a component "time" and that the client needs to zone information.
TIMESTAMPjava.sql.TimestampThe TIMESTAMP type is mapped to java.sql.Timestamp if nanosecond precision is used in the database.

In general, is it better to use java.sql.Date and java.sql.Timestamp instead of oracle.jbo.domain.Date? Using java.sql.Date and java.sql.Timestamp could save me some headaches conversion date. And, is there a place in JDeveloper to display these maps? I looked around and didn't see anything.

    Thank you.

User, what version of jdev we are talking about?

In GR 11, 1 material versions db types date and timestamp are mapped to types of domain data that represents a wrapper for the native data types. The reason was that the framework can work with the domain types regardless of the underlying data type.

Since Oracle 11 GR 2 maps the types DB to java types (default selection, you can change it when you create a model project, you can set the Data Type Mapping). Once the pilot has business components define you cannot change this setting it would break existing components such as eo or vo.

So if you are working wit 11 GR 1 subject, you must use the domain types, if you work with GR 11, 2 or 12 c, you can use the domain types, but it is recommended to use the java type mapping.

  • Better to use an arbitrary primary key?

    Hi all

I have an employee table where each employee has a unique employee ID. I expect to look up employees by their ID frequently. Is it better to use an arbitrary sequence as the primary key and put an index on the field ID employee or to the employee ID primary key? Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to the forum!

    >
Best practice is to use surrogate keys (for example, your arbitrary sequence) rather than actual data (employee ID) for the key field values.

The main reason is that the values of data, data, maybe should be changed in the future. If you use a piece of data as the primary key and then must change any changes becomes problematic if there are references to foreign keys to it.

Another reason is that these references to foreign keys mean that the value of data is now duplicated and exist in several tables. It should be changed in any of these tables.

And business rules to deal with employee ID (or any other value of data) may change. It may be encrypted or protected against access by unauthorized persons. If ID is a primary key, because it is much more difficult to encrypt or protect the value is necessary to join the tables correctly and will therefore always available for the purpose of the request, even by people who are not allowed to access the value actually.

Never use values of actual data for values of key with the exception of the simple sample applications.

  • Is it better to use a single project or to jump back?

    Greetings,

I am using Captivate 4. And I wonder if it is better to use a single project or to jump back?

I have a master project and instead of a big project, I was wondering on jumping small projects and returning to the main.

I tried to understand the idea of jump to slide 10 and jump to another project and then again to slide 20.

Should projects be published in order to see this work?

I'm learning just on Captivate so I'm not sure best practices.

    Thank you.

It is not easy in the Captivate projects to switch to another project at Midway specific slide.  Captivate is configured by default to launch just each project of the first slide.

There are workaround solutions published on this forum who has to jump in the middle of another project, but they may require some complex coding in JavaScript or ActionScript.

When shooting for HDR, it is preferable to the Raw format.

When you import the image to gather in HDR and you use JPEGs, Photoshop will show you the message that it is better to use the Raw instead of JPEG...

I downloaded beta LR5 and used for editing photos for a month or two. My computer using Vista but beta LR5 worked OK with some bugs. I went to install the version released track of the LR5 last night and he discovered doen't support Vista. Then what should I do? Can I use LR4 and low grade (convert) my version of beta LR5 to work with who?

5 Lightroom does not support Windows Vista, so you have to stick with Lr4 or change your operating system.

Cannot open the catalog that you created in the beta in Lr4 Lr5 - compatibility warnings were published with the beta.

  • Canon XA20: is it better to use mp4 or avchd settings?

I shoot some projects using a Canon XA10 and a Canon XA20. All projects will be burned to DVD, but there is also the possibility for web use.

I understand that the Canon XA10 films only in the AVCHD codec, while the Canon XA20 offers the opportunity to film in the mp4 codec and codec AVCHD. For the above mentioned purposes, I should shoot using the AVCHD codec on both devices, or can I use AVCHD on Canon XA10, mp4 on the Canon XA20 (to save storage space/rendering time) and still receive quality results? I will be publishing with the creation of the Adobe Creative cloud. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hello Clare27,

You can use either the option you mention with successful results.  You would need to take into account your editing needs and General needs images when choosing.  However, we suggest that you pick a format and stick with it - this will make much easier editing.

  • Is it better to use the Edge or Flash to create a slideshow embedded in HTML for display in browsers in computers and peripherals?

I want to create a slide show that will play in an html page and display in all browsers and devices.

It seems that I have at least two options of development.  It would be to use Edge animate.

The other would be to use Flash Professional CC 2015 and output with HTML5 Canvas.

Because I understand that Edge animate is no longer in development and since I have a background in Flash, I'm tempted to go overboard with Flash.

Please let know us if the Flash is a good choice in your opinion for this project.  I haven't worked with HTML 5 Canvas yet and am not familiar with it.  Thank you.

Flash pro (soon to animate pro) is a good choice.

Yes, and it shows... Really ugly stuff. Anyway, there is nothing there fancy that couldn't be created with the most simplistic in Photoshop layer styles, if the items must be scalable. Otherwise of course you would in Illustrator...

  • It is better to use hyperthreading?

    Hello

I'm quite new to ESXi and use 4.1 and now 5, I have servers running hyperthreading and have read mixed reports while using all the carrots for virtual machines.

If for example I have 2 x 6 cores processors, hyperthreading you are ok to use all 24 hearts? I guess you also leave some for ESXi to use?

    Thank you

    Zac

Yes, enable hyperthreading, it is supported and recommended.

  • is it better to use the rowid function or a composite key

I have a clue about 2 fields so that I can make my form based on these 2 fields
But now since I spend my app in 4.2 that I intend to do everything depended of rowid function

    Is this the right approach
I currently facing problems as 1422 extract extract several lines even if the primary key is defined as key composite column 2

Your primary key must never rest on 'natural touches', that is to say the actual data in your table. The fact that you are talking about a composite key means that you think that do. You can create an index that is UNIQUE on these types of fields to maintain the integrity of the data, but they do not have the pharmacokinetics of the table.

My primary keys are always a NUMERIC field, populated by a combination of sequence/relaxation. Because the data in the ID field have no connection with the data in the table - there is never any need/reason to change. As has been mentioned above, ROWID changes rarely, but it is possible for them. I use ROWID in the Apex and when I have forms to keep tiny (maybe 5-10 lines) lookup tables that are used to populate LOVs create a primary key is excessive.
