Beware placing Illustrator EPS Pantone in CMYK Document, InDesign!

I designed two projects that share the same graph, one in Illustrator CS4 and the other in InDesign CS3. I created the chart in Illustrator and it uses Pantone colors; I saved this chart in an EPS file and place in the InDesign file. When I created a PDF file for the production of each application, the color difference was significant - the PDF of the Illustrator was falling for the color, but the InDesign PDF was distant. Too late for you will notice that, as jobs were printed and only then the variance is noticeable.

I did some troubleshooting and testing, here are my results.

› Placed Pantone EPS in ID, PDF printed, gave rise to important color change.

› Place version AI Pantone of graphic design in ID, creates PDFS, perfect results.

› The converted EPS Pantone to CMYK in placed Illustrator EPS in ID, creates PDF, perfect results.

› Registered Pantone graphic in Illustrator PDF, placed in the ID, get the best results.

Windows XP SP3, Illustrator CS3, InDesign CS4, both applications have same color settings (US SWOP Coated 2).

Now, I have to explain my results to the client. That will be a humbling experience.

Can someone tell me if I'm missing something with the economy of the EPS / investment, what is the nature of the Pantone EPS files? Clearly InDesign cannot successfully "convert all tasks to deal with" during the creation of the PDF file.

Just avoid the SPE and to do with it. There is no reason to use a lot of reasons not to do so.

The E means wrapped. He isn't getting hit during the entire process, and that's why colors converted.

It's a relic of a bygone era.

  • Newbie question: place the Illustrator .eps or .ai file in InDesign

I have an Illustrator file contains text that has been converted to outline text.  When I placed .ai or .eps version of the file in a new InDesign document, the text is composed of pixel blocks that make it not only unsightly but also illegible. My goal is to place that looks like it is in Illustrator and is resizable as vector.  This is my first shot using InDesign so I don't know that I do something wrong, I just don't know what.  I'd appreciate any help.  Thank you!

You did nothing wrong; not sure that ID displays previews low-resolution images. You can view previews full resolution images placed by going to view-> display performance-> display high quality, or you can right-click on any one image and set its resolution of preview in its own menu of display performance, just that a placed image.

  • Movement of placed Illustrator object when opening file

    Hello

I came across a weird problem! I have built and saved as illustrator file, something that has some kind of knockout (transparency). When I placed this item in another illustrator file, all right, and I save this new file. When I reopen it the new file, I noticed that illustrator has moved the object placed very slightly. I looked at other objects in this new file and placed files and illustrator doesn't seem to affect those.

Whenever I re - save the file, illustrator adds the same position to the current position objects. If I just open the file without saving the changes, the position remains as is. The SHIFT is added by the Illustrator when I save the file!

Does anyone have an idea what can cause this problem and how to prevent it? (I think it might have to do with the knockouts, but I can't understand it).

    It's CS4. Thank you.

PS: Another weird thing is that when I tried to register the object-with-knockout as illustrator EPS, the EPS abandoned transparency file file.

    Hi sPretzel,.

I tried with AI CS4 and was able to reproduce the problem with the files you provided and even a scracth with a place/related PNG file. This issue seems to happen more often with site-related files. It seems that it was a bug there'S CS4.

I also tried the same steps with AI CC and there is no problem to the observed. You can also try it on your end... AI CC can be downlaoded from www.creative.adobe.com.

Please let me know if you need further assistance in this regard.

    Kind regards

  • Changing colors during registration HAVE Illustrator EPS

I was the weekly design large banners in Illustrator for the past month.  I'm on banner #5 and had no problems before.  Every time I opened the banner format HAVE previous, make the design changes, then save under the new banner, and then do a save slot for an Illustrator EPS file for easy printing on our printer large format.  It was easy and systematic.

This time I went through the same process, but when I save the Illustrator EPS file, the colors come out incorrect - especially dark.  My medium dark blues in the eyes of almost black design in th EPS file.  I tried printing, thinking maybe it was just how the file showed a preview on my screen, but no.  The colors printing incorrectly too.

I managed to solve the problem by setting color in RGB, but I want to understand what happened and why the change?  Everything worked very well in CMYK mode for the last 4 weeks, but it doesn't now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

The PDF method is exactly what I would do. EPS an obsolete instrument, PDF is a modern workflow.

    Take care, Mike

  • You can delete the Illustrator .eps files XMP data - CS5.5?

    Background:

I use the font software called Typetool 3 and Illustrator CS5.5.

I use these on Windows 7, 64 bit.
It is the entry level published by Fontlab font software.
This software accepts work through the .eps file format in theory and practice.

However: he refuses illustrator .eps CS5.5 files.

When I watched this I came with two very interesting things: first illustrator CS5.5 files are about 13 times the size of the CS5 files of this type (a simple font glyph-comparing a kbfile 29-30 to a file of 420-450 KB in cs5 and cs5.5 respectively).

Two thing came to watch what these data were (by opening it in a text editor). It seems that some of the data the XMP data, data of illustrators for tracking things like who created the file, right of copyright and other. In info document many of these fields were empty. I don't know that this is not the only question because my exported xmp data are 64 KB big, but it does account for a part of the file.

The main question is: can these data xmp. which in my case is useless, because I put the copyright and other data in the police, be removed or not included when creating documents?

The technical question is: can the file be saved in a way that will allow it to be exported from adobe CS5.5 and imported in Typetool 3?

    Things I've tried:

By saving the .eps file: remove documents headers, extracts, color backup data, as different versions of the language. Basically it save without any parameters.

In the save the .ai file: Save without all of the controlled parameters (without compression, pdf editting, ect.) and save it to a different level of illustrator.

I don't know enough about programming postscript to navigate in the file or delete the offending data. And I don't have time to do during several glyphs.

As a matter of opinion I don't like that my software is particularly identifying information potentially (which is one of the intentions of XMP data, to provide identification) without notifying the creator, and still less afford to stop from doing this. I have not the spirit or her penalty-except for the fact its messed a workflow based. If someone edited these data without my knowledge, say with a virus or heaven forbid manually, it would also be embarrassing. Have a check that identifies me to send these data would give me something to know if this situation happening in reality. In addition, for a situation such as mine-communication between programs in a closed environment, where no one else is involved, its useless and waste... like putting gold rims on what is supposed to be an ox-cart.

I plan to go to Fontlab to later this week, because it's as much their question as it's Adobe. I know THAT XMP is both a valuable and popular - technology have a work around for this situation seems this would be a good idea. If necessary I can attach files of work for comparison.

I save as EPS (Illustrator version 3). This should be compatible with almost any software that supports PSE.

  • Icon of the exclamation when starting a new CMYK document in cs5?

exclamation-cmyk.jpgWhen I start a new CMYK document in Illustrator CS 5 I'm the yellow exclamation on the right you can see in the picture I have attached.  When I choose RGB there is no exclamation mark!  What is the cause and how can I fix this, or is this normal?  Thank you!

Nothing wrong here. It just tells you that there is no corresponding document template and you have changed your settings. It seems a little awkward, but nothing to worry about.

  • Conversion of pantone color mode to CMYK in Indesign CS3?

I'm working on a business card for a client, I use Adobe Indesign CS3.

I use the outside for the print job company called 4over (4over.com) and they require that you use their print CMYK pdf engine so that they can do the job properly... Basically it bring down: I'm in Indesign CS3, I chose to print and the printer choose their "4over pdf engine CMYK to print" so the colors do not convert and the color does not change when they use their printers.

4over tells me that my document is in pantone color mode, they can see the pantone 371C color, but not the CMYK values.

How to change color pantone in CMYK color mode mode?

If anyone can help me please. I would really appreciate it.

I have attached the file I sent to 4over snack for anyone to respond to my question.

    Thank you

    Brandon

Before export, in the swatch Panel, choose your Pantone color, right click and select options for nuance. Change the type of color to the process and the color to CMYK mode.

If it is a business card, and you have shown to the customer a pantone swatch, know that you will not get the same results of color. There is a very useful book of Pantone available that shows samples side by side with the CMYK values.

Since the update to Lion, it seems that we can do is no longer? If I change to an Illustrator eps, when I go to change a PhotoShop eps it changes it back then all the Illustrator files open in PhotoShop. I realize that the recommeded to save right now the Illustrator files option is as .ai files, but we have 17 years worth of logos customer Illustrator on files that are all in .eps format. Is there anyway to force the system to recognize them as such so that when we use the function change with in the links Panel, we can open it in the appropriate program?

To answer the question: Yes, it will work to in InDesign. InDesign relies on the Finder or Explorer to open files related, which depends in turn Soxy do - so if you are "First Edition" on a link to a file imported, EPS Soxy will (default) intervene and ensure that the EPS opens in Illustrator or Photoshop.

I don't know if this is the right thread to post this question, but here goes!

Today, I launched Photoshop CC for the first time. Running on Mac OS 10.8.5. Seems to work well. I can see previews of the images in my windows in the finder without problem. The oldest recorded in Photoshop CS6 preview very well.

  • Opening documents InDesign CS3 CS4

I hope someone from Adobe can help me with this question. Here's the scenario:

I'm working on the support team in a prepress environment where we get hundreds of files InDesign customer provided per week. Some customers provide their files in InDesign CS3 and some provide files in InDesign CS4. We have two applications.

From our experience, we found that if we open a document, InDesign CS3 with InDesign CS4, there is potential for the elements in the document. I don't know what is happening from 3 to 4 to cause this problem. This happened to us several times and we have experienced losses of money owed on the errors of the press.

One could say, as we have, if the document is provided in InDesign CS3, working on it in InDesign CS3. Pretty easy, right?

Well, not really. If you have CS3 and CS4, both as installed on your mac at the same time, simply by double-clicking the CS4 default file (because it is newer).

We said to our operators that they need identify which version of the file was created is not the easiest thing in the world either.

If you 'get info' on the file, you don't get accurate information. He can say "CS4", even if it's "CS3", I think it's because your system is reading the application newer than you have to install is.

I found that by dragging the file to the CS3 icon in the doc, it will attempt to open the file in CS3 and if it is really a CS4 document, you will get errors in plugin and the file does not open. It works, but my 38 mac operators are so used to simply by double-clicking a file to open it, they sometimes forget to do it my way, and it is when we receive errors.

Y at - it a plugin available that would make you, when double - click on a file as to which version he is or which version you want to open the file in InDesign?

What has changed the Adobe in InDesign CS4, which would cause things to disappear or change when working on CS3 CS4 documents?

    Thank you in advance.

The image is a logo that must correspond to this gray in the rest of the document - 50 %K, can't seem to find how to do this, however, someone help please?

    Clientel.

A logo which is a raster image can be quite undesirable.

But to get a representation of it grayscale, you can:

    (1) create a rectangle with a black (or grey) nostroke fill in (at least) the same size on top of the image (you can ClickDrag with the Rectangle tool between opposite corners, the guides are your friends);

    (2) switch stacking in the palette order layers so that the image is on top;

    (3) select the two images and the rectangle, and then in the transparency palette dialog box click the opacity with mask Clip mask both invert checked.
