  My friend gave me his Inspiron 3135 because he needed a new hard drive that she also asked me to put Windows 7 on it because she does not like 8.   The biggest difference is a more powerful CPU (vs Celeron Dual Core/Quad Core i3) - model 8A the i3 and the 7 of the low range processor.

  Nor has a digitizer - if you are looking for a portable hybrid in this class with one, you will need to watch more closely the starting price of $800 $ 300 - scanners are not cheap and you won't find them on entry-level range as the 11-3000 series models.

• How to stop updates of Firefox

  So we have this system of helpdesk at work called cure (I make no bones about this, it should be called disease at least in the form my company has put into it) but that's what we have, I can't change that. I generally use Chrome to create changes in the remedy, but I need to use Firefox to create work orders because Chrome doesn't handle well in the menus of the repair.

  Now, Firefox, which is my browser of choice in all other circumstances, work well with the remedy (I'm not convinced that anything done) and when it updates, currently at version 39.xx, he continues to work with the cure... something to do with the different-Hellman encryption. I can solve this problem by reinstalling v38.05 but then it puts day and goes pear shaped. So I uninstall and reinstall and it works again... until it updates.

  The solutions I've tried are (each time preceded by a version 39.x uninstall and reinstallation of v38.05):

  1. in the Firefox Options / Advanced assured that "never search for updates (not recommended: security risk)" has been selected.

  2 custom install Firefox v 38.05 with no maintenance service (the above, Options / Advanced settings seem to be maintained throughout the uninstall/reinstall).

  3 custom install Firefox v 38.05 with no service maintenance and that all executables and dll read-only. Once again all of the above is the same.

  4 custom install Firefox v 38.05 without maintenance service, deleted the files maintenanceservice.exe and maintenanceservice_installer.exe from the Mozilla Firefox folder and renamed updater.exe updater.old. Go to help / about Firefox and deliberately run an update. This "installed" but, the browser is restarted, brought a dialog box saying there is a problem (I don't remember the message). Allowed the browser to download the new full version, which forced a second reboot and an error dialog box that I then closed.

  5 restart Firefox after you create a file user.js in profile folder that contains:
  turn off the updates of the application:
  user_pref ("app.update.enabled", false);

  6. check about: config is disabled for the automatic update:
  App.Update.auto - false
  App.Update.Enabled - false
  App.Update.Silent - false

  That's all... all this absolutely does not prevent updates of Firefox and, as far as I can tell, I did almost everything it is humanly possible to prevent update Firefox outside ditching it completely (which I certainly don't want to do) but there seems to be no way I can stop the update of Firefox.

  I'm sure it's 'fault' of BMC Remedy, but I can't change what makes the company, I'm just a small cog in a big machine, but I can't (or should be) change things on my own system. I can not just when it comes to Firefox which, in addition to being frustrating, no sense... why the Mozilla team would create a product with options to stop the updates that the application simply ignores?

  Well, hang on, it sounds as if the real problem is that the server tries to use an obsolete encryption encryption algorithm that is vulnerable to the attack of the impasse that was in the news earlier this year.

  Try again the server; You may need to reload the page using Ctrl + Shift + r to ignore information in cache.

  Hi all, I recently bought a used Elitebook 8570p - big machine. To my surprise, when I went to burn it to a CD, I discovered the installed DVD ROM is a reader, not a writer. I didn't even know that those who exist more... Model is HP DVD ROM DT80N.

  I've never replaced a DVD player, but I feel comfortable doing the swap. However, I can't determine what player will agree and match the look of the laptop.

  Just joined and hope im this ad in the right place. I need advice on this Toshiba laptop to get. It will be used for photo editing. Must have a 15/16 screen. Big screen would be nice. Programs that I run are Adobe and Photoshop light room. I use a wacom tablet with 2 external hard drives. It will be used manly at home and in the studio.

  In general I think that the best option for you is to buy notebook series Satellite A. Something like Satellite A665. It's very nice for laptop with good material and enough performance that you can use for your work.

  I prefer laptops with bigger screen so for years I use Satellite P laptops with screens of 17 or 18. Right now I use the Satellite P500. It's the big machine. For me the best Toshiba laptop, I had over the past 10 years.

  When you have a little time to visit Toshiba page for your country and check which models Satellite are available in your country. Choose the one with the better graphics chip, enough Ram and, of course the HARD drive with enough capacity.

• Qosmio X 500 - 12N freezes without action or use

  I have a Qosmio X 500 - 12N and got a major prolem, not always but about 4/10 times, the computer crashes, (not authorized stock, mouse freeze, sound continues to repeat) even if I did not open any program or I do nothing

  I have to shut the power button, so no information is sent to the support system. (and stop cold is not very good for the computer, lol)

  I tried all the updates, drivers, software care pc, defragging, scandisk, cleaners registry etc etc and the problem persists.

  I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and they did to solve or maybe if you could tell me what are the causes of the problem so that I could try to solve it.

  I use the Satellite P500 and it's also big machine like your Qosmio but so far I didn't noticed similar problems working on it.
  It is not easy to say why this happens, but somehow, I think that some background process is blocking your Qosmio.

  Do you have a lot of additional software installed? As you know many of them begin with OS and runs in the background. Try to stop all unnecessary processes and also all of them that you need for your work and you will see if it happens again.

  I m afraid there is not a simple trick to avoid this, and you have to find the reasons why this happen.
  For how long you have your Qosmio?
  Since when this blocking has started?

  Some Microsoft update is perhaps responsible for that. What do you think?

• HP/Compaq nc6400 laptop: HP/compaq nc6400 Windows 10 and graphic problem, erasing text in areas of immersive shell.

  I have a laptop nc 6400 product number: RB518UT #ABA uses an ATI mobility Radeon x 1300 graphics card, as well as Intel (r) mobile express chipset available 965 G. I chose to use Classic desktop windows at the moment and no problem at all now. I don't know about Vsync or 2D with any partbut I disabled it Aero, windows 'themes' clear the text, mosaic with not a spec left shaows WHEREAS I could think of and still the text clears using my own slider like gum or disappears and leavesablank. Alsooccasionaly gibberish are more black lines not only any official language, but today I thought that almost a nonsense post script type to some... in some mobile tiles that can refresh, but even that does not work as it always has... I am at a loss I need a decent graphics that I use photoshop and dreamweaver allt/times a day and at least they need to exploit as much as possible. I had no problem with their execution on this computer for the past 4 years or more. It has been now 4 OS on this big machine that has not had any problems over the past 7 years. He 4gig memory and 750 GB hard drive and lack of wellis touchscreen but... not worry Windows when they checked all this to check.  I am beyond my capabilities and need help.   The only suggestion I can offer would be manually install the graphics driver Vista support for your laptop and driver, page and see if it works...

  BTW, the nc6400 has the mobile Intel 945 chipset, not the 965.  The 6910p has the 965 chipset.

  Download and run this driver... You will probably get an error of unsupported operating system.

  Conclusion of any windows error.

  Go to Device Manager and click on the video controller (or Microsoft based Display Adapter) who need drivers.

  Click the driver tab.

  Click on set to update driver.

  Select her browse my computer for driver software option and navigate to the folder of the driver that was created when you ran the file.

  I just got my pc x200t (big machine) and still a newbie at this.  I recently bought the new 256 GB SSD on the Lenovo site (this was announced as compatible with those X200T), to replace the hard disk provided with the machine.  The DSS came with the storage card. I tried to install it today and somehow, the SSD with the adapter pushes more in the drive Bay - I placed it in the same orientation as the HARD drive.  I took a look inside the drive Bay and there is a strip of metal on the back that is 'bent' into a flat shape C. This metal band is elastic and can be pushed down with a long screwdriver, and somehow the HARD drive either pushing downwards or welcomes when HARD drive is inserted.

  I wonder if this strip prevents the SSD storage card to be inserted completely in? I also me asks if the storage card to the 256 different GB to 128 GB? The part number for my adapter is FRN No. 42W788.  I am at a loss what to do, I thought that the upgrade of the disk to the SDS is a simple exercise.  I was so tempted to unscrew the back panel and see if I can install the SSD from the "top" - but this may void my warranty. Should I call a technician to my place? Help, please... I use this computer for work.

  I found a solution to this problem, I removed the keyboard by following the instructions given by the tech Lenovo Outphasing-72450 help article, this will expose the hard drive Bay. I removed the original and then inserted the SSD HARD drive. Voila! It is inserted completely without any problem. Somehow, lifting the keyboard out everything which prevented the SSD to slip in all the way - the metal strip mentioned above has been less curved.

• plugged in sata 160 GB in windows vista with 450 GB computer happens not to format or anything else

  Had / have a desk to HP 450 GB with SATA top. After a power failure, the big machine died and I put the hard drive I have an emachine which was also 160 GB vista windows to try to recover the data. I was able to access two drives of 160 and the 450, it starts always on the smaller drive until suddenly after a few days the system cut off when I started the system again once I could not start the computer so I reinstalled vista and the largest disk booted the smaller drive was called the hp usb mass storage drive. and kept ask for a CD to use it. I can't change the name I can't move it from the section in the DVD CD player it will be upward above hence is the local C drive. I can not in it, I have removed the hard drive but didn't unplu it. It comes in the material but always says removable drive for HP mass storage and I can't access it. What should I do help please

  Your question is very confusing to be honest.

  Have you changed the settings when both drives are connected to the computer?

  My best advice would be to take the computer to a tech store and get it fixed.

  PS failure must have caused the problem, most likely.

  I bought a new motherboard of Dell (OCT103) for the Dimension E521.

  I received the card mother, screwed into the computer and everything works fine. But...

  On the homepage of Dell, I found information, I have to boot into the BIOS setup and it press ALT + F in the main configuration to disable the mode of production. But when I press those buttons I got a beep, nothing more.

  Please can you tell me how to disable this mode correctly and permanent.

  I recently got a new machine (inspiron 660 s) from dell.

  The start screen always displays "mode of production", even though I entered the serial number.

  I tried a lot of keys to try to return to the normal mode, but not worked.

  Finally, I pressed 'Load Defaults' in the Menu output then output parameter of the BIOS.

  Everything became normal. A Dell Logo appears on startup. (Later, of course, I can change all the parameters :)

  They have little big machines for virtualization.

  I have currently all "maxed out" on them to 8 GB of RAM each, which is the maximum listed for each.

  Often, I found these "maximum" specifications based on the largest available at the time of publication dimm and not necessarily a limitation of the system.

  Or the other of these machines support DIMMs to 4 GB?

  OCZ and Geil have PC800 4x4GB kits available and would be well worth it for me to update if possible.

• x 301 only connection to speed Wireless G (54 Mbps) Wireless-N network

  Need help to understand this.  Just got my new x 301 running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit - big machine.  So far only one problem - does not connect to the faster that 54 Mbit/s to my router (DLink DIR-655).  The wireless adapter on the PC is Intel(r) wifi link 5100 agn.

  I have 2 other computers that are connecting at speeds between 130 and 270Mbps according to their mood (or wireless card) wireless-N so I'm reasonably confident the router settings (for example, WPA2 encryption, mode dual n/g, channel width Auto 20/40) are usually very good.    Despite this - the x 301 is stuck at 54 Mbps.  When I look at the adapter for x 301 diagnostic output, he claims that my network access point is of "unknown type".  When I look on the router status page it says that PC is connected wireless G.  When I look at the dial-up connections it say that the network is a Wireless-N.  In all cases though 54 Mbps is reported as the connection speed.  I have tried everything I can think and seen in various one for (for example, mirror adapter settings claim work, download and update driver Intel, etc.) but may not make a difference.

  Any ideas about what I'm missing would be appreciated.

  Thank you.  I had finally it works.  WMM router parameter was not active and changing who did it (no idea what it does well).  Who + play for a long time with different settings of the adapter and the router, I got a reasonably stable high speed connection.  Still not perfect as speed fluctuates more that should be, but reasonable performance.  Get this job shouldn't be that hard, but I guess it is.  If I had known before time to be an engineer to understand network that I would have stuck with a stable connection 54 Mbps and not worried about it.

  Agree with the notion that sometimes less is more - especially if a values personal time away from various configuration pages.  Opportunity for someone to create simple, 5th year level software that can take care of such things.

  All this aside - my new x 301 is by far the best computer I've had, so not all bad.

• Suspended at startup recovery

  I'm a poster the first time here, I usually do my own research and fix my own problem, but this problem led me to the end of my patience.

  So I have a HP G60, big machine, he served all my needs. That is until a reckless aunt pulled the power cord out of him as he ran with no battery. On reboot, Windows will not start and the system recommended I have perform a recovery system with the recovery partition. No problem, I thought, all my valuable files were backed up and the system could use a new installation. But here's where my real problem started, recovery, hung to a screen with the default Windows background. It hung for more than 4 hours without ever showing me as much as a dialog box. So I thought that maybe the recovery partition has been damaged, I went through a few modes of recovery options all ending in nothingness or the same question.

  I had done my research but it seems that, despite the vastness of the internet, there was only one other person who had the same problem with the same machine than mine. His solution was to let it hang for hours until the first dialog box appears and then the process advanced even though very slowly. I tried this as well, I let it sit for 12 hours and it still does not work.

  So I succumbed to the HP support and ordered the recovery media. I received the disks and hope that would solve my problem to find this disc so well to a differently colored background block.

  I am at my end and I don't know what to do at this point. So, any help would be deeply appreciated.

  If eventually make full wipe and install just make sure that you use the same version of Windows 7 as OEM installation such as the Home Basic or Home Premium.

  Sale to the retail/OEM Windows 7 64 bit has only 4 versions & you can make an ISO version downloaded in a version all the ISO by removing a single file.

  If your correct key it will easily validate by phone, it's on XP & on some laptops on windows7 used for business & OEM installation & fully formatted recovery, but recycled license...

  Long term effort of total deletion & MS generic detail will likely lead to better running OS & more space on the hard drive.

  The required drivers are easily downloadable on HP support & drivers. Once the OS is up & running as you want, you can create a backup using many backup tools available or a C partition clone a disk external hard usb with a tool free wipe copy or ultimate boot cd .

• How can I turn off the "always off-line" property on a specific folder or share?

  Hi, I use Windows 8 on two machines with a home group. On the smaller machine, I use Sync Center to keep an offline copy of some of the files that are stored on the big machine. I can then work on those out-of-home and sync when I come back. I do not use the cloud, just the home network.

  I can choose any folder and ask to be "always available offline". It works very well. But I can't turn this setting off. The cache on the smaller machine becomes too full so I want to selectively remove some of the files of it.

  I tried the following none of which:

  (1) in the file Explorer, right-click on the file and look at the context menu. There is no other choice "make always available online.
  (2) even again and look at the properties. There is a checkbox indicating "always available offline" and it is not gray - but it won't let me click on it. So I can't remove the tick from the box
  (3) in the file Explorer, select the file, and in the tab "Home" watching 'Easy Access'. The "always online" option is grayed out.

  No experience with this problem? It doesn't seem to appear in google searches

  the problem seems to have "solved itself" and I will describe below the steps that I actually took.
  But first, just to clarify, this isn't (I think) a problem of skydrive, unless the policies and procedures of caching are the same regarding networked files (which I'd be interested to hear about). I'm not using skydrive. I'm just a home group in which wholesale laptop has two 500 GB drives and small laptop has a 250 GB drive. Great hosts of all mobile files for the House and a small laptop computer via a homegroup. Both machines are running Windows 8. I have improved in December to 8.1 and then is a complete Windows 8 resettlement, so that they are both pretty clean.

  "Access all offline files" is turned off on both machines, and all actions are defined to allow network users to decide which files they want to store online (I think this is the default)

  Just to complete the picture, it is the only user on each machine, which has administrative privileges on this computer.

  When away from home, small laptop can continue to use the shared files because while that connected small laptop, I mark it as "always available offline". Then when I come home, I just sync (with the network, not with SkyDrive shares). However, I have to do this selectively, because there is not enough room for all of them. So I just keep offline files copies I'll work on all away, about 34Gb.

  This solution is fine for me, I don't really have a use for Sky Drive yet.

  The problem is that while I can turn on "keep a copy offline" selectively, I couldn't turn off selectively. If one day I put a huge folder by mistake to be readable while offline and then discovered that offline files had gobbled up space on the drive of the laptop little almost all the. But I couldn't pass this backrest to remove from the cache offline files. The relevant menu options were all grayed out.

  In the world stopping or disabling 'offline files' did not help, because as soon as I have reactivated the, small laptop "remember" what she should be cached. I guess I could have reduced the cache space something much smaller, but then what I would do is remove the functionality that I needed because Sync would fall on complain there is not enough room.

  What has worked (don't know too why) are the following steps:

  (1) the big laptop, move all the files that are used to be in the huge file in a temporary store
  (2) on big laptop, use the tab share offline on the properties of the file once - huge, to deny the user the right to keep a cache online.
  (3) make the shareable temporary store
  (3) close big laptop and restart
  (4) close the small laptop and restart
  (5) sync small computer laptop once again, making sure not to request a copy of the temporary Bank offline

  Grayed links seemed to 'wake up' and I was able to delete all cache offline except the files I wanted. But I have no idea why.

  Hope this helps someone, and I think it would be useful to publish, somewhere, a "how-to" article telling how to reset the offline files cache.
