  Can someone please help me to reset my BIOS admin password.  I know it's stupid, but when I got my laptop 5 years ago for some silly reason, I thought it was a good idea to set an admin password.   5 years later, I need to change my setting of virtualization in the BIOS and surprise!  I'm stuck with absolutely no idea what password I used.

  The "System off" code I get is: 67600648.

  Contact HP and they should be able to send you a file custom SMC.bin that you can use to reset the password at startup.

  Choose the flash drive, and then click RESTORE.

  I have a HP Pavilion dv4-2045dx that contains:

  AMD Turion II Dual-Core Mobile M500 (2200 MHz)

  4 GB of DDR2 SDRAM (2 Dimm) memory

  Seagate 320 HDD (7200 RPM)

  ATI/AMD Radeon HD 4200 graphics card

  OS: Windows 7

  As I said in my header object, my laptop is unable to start. He blinks at the HP screen and then takes me to a black screen telling me that there is no boot device. OLEDS (caps and Num lock) Flash 4 times throughout the process. When I try to restore my system with my recovery disks, it loads up for Win7 but fails to reinstall/recover by ending the restore process and gives the error message:

  "The instruction at 0x8000d030 referenced memory at 0x012ac60. The memory could not be read.

  I don't know if this is useful, but when I run the diagnostic system test in the HP Start menu, I have a couple of error logs that are:

  Also when I run a hard drive Test, it does not detect the hard drive.

  All this happens when I was a video on Adobe first/After Effects and flash game on a web site. The system is just frozen and didn't answer. I did a hard reset and that's when I got hurt at start up to Windows 7.

  You tried the good things so far.  Errors are pointing to hard drive failure.  You can try to remove/reset or replace the hard drive.  If a known good hard drive is still not detected, then you can have more serious problems.

• Cannot install driver for hp pavilion dv4-2045dx cd player

  Computer: HP Pavilion dv4 2045dx using Windows 7 (64-bit)

  I currently have problems with my computer's CD drive.  He has been unable to read discs of any kind of music, DVDS and software programs for several months now.  The main problem seems to be with an inability to properly install the driver for the cd drive.

  When running "find and solve the problems" of section "Troubleshooting" in the Control Panel, I get an error message that says that there is a problem with the driver for the cd drive.  Whenever I try to install the driver, he is not able to do so and contact the manufacturer of your computer.  I also tried to download all the updates and I get essentially the same message.

  Also, here's all that I've done so far.  I followed all these steps, but the last two listed in the help or support of the site.  Here is the link I used:

  I couldn't do a restore of the system in step 7, because the last date that I could find to a restore point has been today (or yesterday).  In addition, I couldn't do step 8.

  2 disable all passwords that are enabled in the Security menu of BIOS.

• Screen & player stalls voids on Pavilion dv4-2045dx

  Having formerly operating Pavilion dv4-2045dx a friend.  When turned on, no screen activity is displayed.  Hard diving turns upward, but not for very long, so it doesn't seem as if Windows is actually behind the empty screen loading.  I tried to connect a monitor to the display port, but nothing appears on the external monitor or integrated display.  The command has been removed and the data seems to be intact.

  I guess the screen is dead and with it the computer.  Any suggestions before I tell him, is it time for a new laptop?

  Physically, you need to open the case and look at the type of processor before ordering a new. I'm not sure of the dv4 on top of my head, but some use laptops that are welded on the processors and you should replace the whole Board. In addition, with processors, you might be able to get more life out of it by scraping of old thermal compound on the CPU and the heat sink and thermal paste new application.

  After I pulled out the existing RAM chips, I tried to put the new RAM 8 GB chips in 2 slots, but it does not fit the slot. The detail is that the size of the entire chip is shaped, but the notch on the long side of the upper part does not fit the clip into the machine.

  Dv4-2045DX has been in the garage because he had flashing lights of SCROLL CAPS as many post I've read here, I have fixed my now excellent work there.

  My grandson removed CYBERLINK DVD and POWER2GO and another, because he thought that it was a pirated software that I would like to reinstall the software but cannot be found on the support page Hp, found update, but not sure that it would have the software with the update. If anyone knows if I could download the cyberlink DvD suite of Hp or am I out of luck, I thought also that perhaps reinstall the whole system, but I just spent 3 days of updating Win 7 64 and I prefer not to do that. HP has maybe drive I could order it,

  You will need to perform a system recovery to get this software. It is not available for download and I do not think that HP sends separately the installation media.

  If you used the recovery disks to reinstall the operating system (or the recovery partition), you should be able to reinstall the applications that have been uninstalled by going to the SWSetup folder on drive C:\ and has all the program installation files that are located in these folders.

  You'll just have to hunt around for them to find the applications to install.
