    Thank you

    Hi yogesh,

I understand that you would like to know how to retrieve the BitLocker recovery key manually and I'll be happy to answer your query.

(Repair-bde) BitLocker Repair tool is a command-line tool included with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. This tool can be used to access the encrypted data on a severely damaged hard drive if the drive has been encrypted by using BitLocker Drive encryption. Repair-bde can reconstruct critical parts of the drive and recover recoverable data until a password is invalid or the recovery key is used to decrypt the data. The Repair-bde command-line tool is intended to be used when the operating system does not start, or when you cannot start the BitLocker Recovery Console. If a drive is physically damaged, it may not be recoverable.

I would ask you to see the suggestions in the article below and check the status.

  • Message "You must supply a BitLocker recovery key to start"

    original title: Bitlocker recovery question

'You must supply a BitLocker recovery key to start' message appears sporadically and I get the following screen: Bitlocker of Windows Driver - information encryption system boot information changed since Bitlocker is enabled. You must supply a key to have Bitlocker to start this system. Confirm that the changes to the system boot information are allowed. If changes to the system boot information are approved, then suspend and resume Bitlocker. This will reset Bitlocker to use the new startup information, if not restore the system boot information. I enter my key and my system accpts it.  Why should I have to re-enter this information every day?  I've suspended and resumed the protection. It started after an automatic update of Windows Update. • Cannot access an external hard drive lost, encrypted BitLocker recovery key and do not know where to enter the password to unlock it.

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-Bit on a Sony Vaio. Worked great, seems awsome and rolls GOOS GOOS, for a new operating system. I decided to use the BitLocker feature that I wanted to use from Vista Ultimate, which was incredibly dificult unlike BitLocker in Windows 7, which is extremely simple to use. So simple in fact, I encrypted my external hard drive Verbatim 160 Gig where the original BACKUP files are with ALL my original documents, settings and files of the company are located. I haven't used a USB key, or don't have I recorded the RecoveryKey, I printed and completely loses it, I remember perfectly well the password I used. Problem is I have NOW, I can't ACCESS MY HARD DRIVE! When I try to access the hard drive it asked me not the password recovery key. Please help me, im in deep poopie. I wish I could change the world, if only I could find a diapper big enough to hold so many things...

Hey thanks for the reply Kev, but I must say that I did and didn't. The new Windows 7 operating system has this feature built-in and it is much easier to use. So yes I did it, but I made using windows 7 have where, instead of download all the files, I just insert the original DVD of WIndows 7, I restart my PC and follow the instructions of recovery of BitLocker recovery key, and voila. The problem is that I've NEVER stored on this particular external hard drive recovery key. BTW: I tried to follow the steps mentioned by Mr. Vijay but inconsistent tool with my operating system (Windows 7 64-Bit) it only works with Vista (not 150 percent certain but close). Please correct me if Im wrong. I wish I could change the world, if only I could find a diapper big enough to hold so many things...

  • BitLocker recovery key queries every time

I use Windows 7 x 64 RTM on my ThinkPad X200T. Everything is fine except that the Bitlocker asks the recovery key at every startup even if I use the TPM module. I have not changed the parameters of start or anything, and I tried to suspend/activate Bitlocker as already suggested... someone help me please.

  • 3 surface Pro stuck trying to start issuing bitlocker recovery key

My Surface Pro 3 took ages to restart (circle of points spinning for centuries). So I went in safe mode (see photo). He recommended I go to windows.microsoft.com/recoverykeyfaq and I enter the key ID.

My machine is joined to a domain, but I'm not on the network, because I can't start and even if I was, I'm at me so impossible to get the field

Bitlocker options give me anywhere to enter the id of the key. I do not have a backup of the recovery key (it was not given to me), and even if I try to reset my pc option it asks installation or Windows recovery support. Which I did not.

I would have hoped that recovery of bitlocker on the URL above would have given me a way to capture the key Id to unlock bitlocker!

I tried everything I can think and am not able to get the notebook to boot without asking the Bitlocker recovery key. I am resolved that there is something wrong with the HW but if someone did work, I would like to compare notes.

The problem was the BIOS. The computer shipped with BIOS version 1.1.6 and the o/s could not read the TPM chip. I updated the BIOS to version 1.3.0 and now Bitlocker can read the chip and need the recovery key...

  • BitLocker recovery password

    Hello

We have enbaled bitlocker with TPM using Vista Enterprise Edition with SP1. We came across the problem of operating system. So, we removed the hard drive and connected as secondary to another machine. He asks me to format the disks.

Is it possible to give the recovery password when you connect it as secondary? Because a lot of data in the computer bureau and other readers. So please provide a solution.

    Hi charline subramaniam,

Thank you for visiting the community of Windows answers!

To restore access to data using BitLocker Drive Encryption:

    Turn on your computer.
If the computer is locked, the BitLocker Drive Encryption Recovery Console will appear.
You will be asked to insert the USB key containing the recovery password.
If you have the USB flash drive with the recovery password, insert it, and press ESC. Your computer restarts automatically. You don't need to enter the recovery password manually.
If you do not have the USB flash drive with the recovery password, press ENTER.
You will be asked to enter the recovery password.
If you know the recovery password, type it, and then press ENTER.
If you do not know the recovery password, press ENTER two times and turn off your computer.

    Note

If you have saved your recovery password in a file in a folder on this computer or on removable media, you can use another computer to open the file that contains the password. To locate the correct file, find password ID on the display console of recovery on the locked computer, and record this number. The file containing the recovery key uses this ID password as the file name. Open the file and look for the recovery password in the file.

If you do not have a recovery password, then you can use solutions third 3rd on the internet but we do not recommend one.
When you do not have to create a 'password reset disk' of the old user account, you have lost the certificate that you need.

    I hope this information helps!

I suggest that you try to recover the bit locker drive on another computer with a volume protected by BitLocker on the drive to diagnose the problem.

When you unlock the BitLocker active hard disk on the other computer, the operation only available authentication shall be resumed. The drive appears in the element of the BitLocker control panel with an option to unlock the volume using the password or the recovery key.

If this does not resolve your query, I suggest you to ask your question in the TechNet forums.

  • My Wd hard drive has been locked with Bit Locker and I don't have a password or recovery key. Please help me?

MR PRESIDENT, I LOCKED UP MY HDD WD 320 GB WITH BIT LOCKER OF WINDOW 7. DUE TO SOME PROBLEMS, I CHANGED MY HARD DRIVE & FORMATTED OS WHERE I KEPT THE RECOVERY KEY. I COULDN'T REMEMBER MY PASSWORD AND RECOVERY KEY. I HAVE VALUABLE DATA in HDD. KINDLY HELP ME TO RECOVER DATA

    THANKING YOU.

Sorry, the news is not good. Some time ago, you have chosen BitLocker because you want to protect your data against unauthorized access. If someone had told you that anyone can crack the encryption by asking a little help in this forum, would you have chosen BitLocker?

BitLocker is as good as its reputation. Unless you followed best practices and created your own backdoor, your data is lost.
  • BitLocker me locked on Surface Pro 3; I have never set up BitLocker and key is not stored anywhere.

    Hello

    I have a Surface Pro 3, i5 256GB, bought in July 2014.

I'm the ONLY person has ever touched my 3 Surface Pro.  Nobody else EVER used.  No administrator has already set up or tampered with it at all.  It's a personal computer (no admin would be by any company or organization in a way) and I'm the only person who used it.

A week after starting, there's my 3 Surface Pro opens a blue screen that says unexpectedly "BitLocker: enter the recovery key to go again" and under the entry field says "to get that key, go to http://windows.microsoft.com/recoverykeyfaq.

Please note: I am 10 000% CERTAIN that I have NEVER set up BitLocker on my computer.  No one else has.  I am sure of it.  Nobody has slyly had access to my computer.  I am sure of that too.

But I went on that link above, connected to my account, and he told me that the BitLocker No. key has been saved to my account.  Again... no one else has no non-existent admin not a she and none 'another user' is, because I'm the only person who has used this computer.  Never.  Period.

I called several times the support (and got hung up twice after an hour during a support call, by the way) and then to the Bank from Microsoft.  All members support confirmed that the 3 Surface Pro (unlike the Surface 2) don't automatically configures NOT BitLocker unless it is initialized by the user at any given time.  I am sure that some may be... I NEVER configure BitLocker on my drive.

But, somehow, BitLocker encrypted to my reader, and there is no key.

There is no way around it.  I can't get the key when he never existed.  I don't have not "forget" or "misplace" the BitLocker key, because I never put one in place.

Hotline helpfully told me it must be a virus (please, seriously? Support always say that just to deny ANY responsibility for anything EVER?) or claims that I have configure BitLocker and forgotten (once again, please).

I'm Livid.  I've lost the value of weeks of files.  How BitLocker can be put on my drive, and the key is not available through my account?

Apparently, there is no way to get around, but I still think there must be something I can do.

Someone at - it never had a similar problem, and if anyone has found a solution?  I need desperately to recover these files.  (Yes, I back up often, but he was still about 2 weeks, and not all received perfectly saved.)

I would really appreciate if someone knows the tricks etc.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

    Hello Dave,

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Community forum.

Unfortunately, my answers also support the statements you receive from Web sites or other technicians. Bit locker never ever get created and implemented by its own. Application of bitlocker on any system requires several step then only it gets implemented.

BitLocker Drive encryption, help us protect all files stored on the drive Windows is installed on (operating system drive) and on data drives (for example, internal hard drives). We can use BitLocker to protect all files stored on removable data drives (such as external hard drives or USB flash drives).

If it has been implemented and you do not know the key so there is no way to get the key and you may need to perform refresh, reset or reinstall windows.

Important: Check out this article and refer to the warning section, you can copy the section warning like warning when you provide Refresh or reset in Windows 8 or 8.1 Windows
