Black screen after the windows login

Hi, I have a HP Pavilion DV7 notebook with Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it. A problem I've noticed is that, once I connect to windows during a boot, the screen is black for about 1-2 minutes. After awhile, explorer.exe would with desktop, taskbar and icons. I am concerned about this 1 to 2 minutes of black screen after the boot as it did not exist previously. I know I have options such as restoring the computer laptop back to the default state, or by using the system restore. However, I don't want to lose all my stuff, and with respect to the restoration of the system, I'm not sure when the problem happening, as it was some time ago. I have read a Microsoft article, ( and tried all the steps with the graphics card and the regestry, but nothing seems to work.

-Task Manager is able to open when the screen is black (shows explorer.exe running)

-J' have the drivers on the HP support site

-laptop is HP Pavilion DV7 3024ca

You will need to login using the method of trial and error. Please uncheck all of the MSCONFIG Startup tab and restart the system. If the black screen issue is resolved, then check out an application every time and restart the system. This will help you to identify the program interfere.

    Hi @vikash4309 ,

At this point I agree with the tech that look at the computer I think it's a problem with the hard drive or even the system board. They may give falsely on the test results. I would recommend that you take it back to this HP's Service Center.

If you do not replace the hard drive recovery CDs should work as long as replace you it with another hard drive and not an SSD because they are different and the recovery CD will know how to properly partition the drive.

You say you have "defective" material and you want a software solution?

Any material support - including the drivers and other software that may be necessary to enable a hardware component to operate fully in a given operating system - is the manufacturer of the equipment.  So if you have a problem with your nVidia GT220 video card - your first stop should be nVidia.

-In addition, you are in the hands of nVidia.

    Try the following.

Boot the computer normally and log.

Black screen, old the ctrl and alt keys and press delete.

    Select Task Manager.

Click on file and select the new task.

Type rstrui - also enter a tick in the box for "create this task with administrative privileges" - and click on Ok.

When the system restore interface is loaded, choose a restore point at least 48 hours before the opening of session question (IE before the last batch of Windows updates have been applied) occurred initially and then proceed to the system restore.

  • Satellite M70 - black screen after the installation of recovery

So far, what I did is put in the Recovery DVD - ROM product. Then when my computer restarts I was invited to restore my computer failing and said. After that he went through this process, that he told me to remove the disc that I did. Now he only get a black screen after the Toshiba screen that gives me options f2 for Setup and f12 for options.

I don't know what to do now to make my laptop works again. Help, please.

    Hi Zach_1,

Have you tried to launch the installation of recovery again? Maybe that something was wrong during the first installation, it might have arrived
Then retry the recovery facility and see what happens.

If it doesn't work you should try a normal Microsoft disk so determine if the problem is related to hardware or recovery disk.

  • Start window manager: sometimes when I started my PC I have a black screen with the Windows boot manager at the top.

Sometimes when I start my PC I have a black screen with the Windows boot manager at the top.  Although there are several options available, that nothing happens no matter what keys I hit and the only option is to shut down the computer and restart completely.  Sometimes the Boot Manager page turns and my office sometimes opens fine.  I've updated with everything Microsoft has Windows Vista and I still get this screen.  Anyone has any ideas.

Do a startup repair and see if that fixes it:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:

    ISO Burner:

It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

  • HP M9000: Black screen after the "Starting Windows" logo and the windows on the screen

I just gave me a m9040n HP Pavilion Elite with a Q6600 CPU, graphics card ge force and two 500 GB HARD drives in.

When I starts it up it seems to be ok the HP blue screen will lights up at the start of the BONE and displays "starting Windows" on the screen with the windows logo. and then it goes to black with just the cursor on the screen. (Vista) So I know WHAT BIOS is ok, the graphics are windows allowed from.

I went to the HP system F11 recovery and he seems to think that all is well... Very confused ideas?

    Thank you, Glenn...

It looks like one or more of the boot loader files has been corrupted.

You need access to a PC for this phase of work in order to create the necessary support to fix your PC boot loader.

You will need to create something called a CD-ROM of repair of Win7. This will repair the boot loader files, and if that is the problem, your PC will start OK after that.  Yes, it's for Win7, but Vista uses the same bootstrapper, so you can use Win7 to repair the Vista bootloader files.

The file you need can be obtained (with supplement) from this link:

When you download this file, it will be an ISO file.

To make a CD bootable it, you will need to download and install ImgBurn:

Once you have installed, run, select the option "Save image to disk file" and select the downloaded ISO file and that it points to a blank CD.

To make a USB bootable of it, you will need to download and install RUFUS:

Once you have that, it is executed in the input of the unit, use the drop down menu to select the USB stick.  Near the bottom right, where is written 'Create a bootdisk to aid', select the ISO file downloaded.

Boot from the media that you have created and follow the instructions in this link:

You will probably need to run Startup Repair three times for him to fix all the boot loader.

Once completed, your PC should start OK.

If it isn't, then some files of the operating system has also been corrupted and the only way to fix it would be to perform a system recovery - which if F11 does not work, but a recovery from the PC to its original using recovery media state.

Problem there is that HP no longer wears a recovery media for the Vista PC, so you should check to see if these sites still have it: and

    Good luck

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

Try the steps in the following Microsoft article and check if it helps.

Windows Vista or Windows 7 unbootable, and the Startup Repair tool does not resolve the problem:

    Method 2:
You can refer to the link below and check the drive for errors:

Warning: when running chkdsk on the drive hard if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost.

If the methods mentioned above do not solve the problem, then it would be best to contact the manufacturer of the computer.

For more information, see the following Microsoft article and check if that helps.

Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • Black screen after the attempt to upgrade to windows 10

I was trying to upgrade windows 7 on a laptop HP Windows 10. The first attempt was via the white windows logo in the taskbar. This attempt was interrupted, probably accidentally turned off the button wifi trying to move the computer. The second time I tried to use windows ten upgraded Installer. I did the usual download and installed up to 99%. He remained on the installation of 99% during the night and the next morning without change. I turned off the computer and he made a series of updates before shutting down for good. When it starts again, it has a black screen but the cursor is there and movable. I tried in safe mode for the repair and restoration of the system, but it did not work. I tried to reset the BIOS to default, but does not. I try to leave the computer turned off for an extended period of time disconnected from the internet to see if that helps. The last attempt to start, windows 7 seems to start but then ends up on the black screen and I held down the power button to stop it. I'd rather upgrade to windows 10 if possible, but if cannot then if can go back to windows 7 will be enough. It worked great on Windows 7 before trying to upgrade, so there is no problems with the computer.

  • Black screen after the notation in Windows 8

Title screen: black original after logon (windows 8)

I have lock my Dell M4400 (windows + L) and close the cover, after leaving for about 5 minutes. And to come back and connect on my laptop that my office shows about 1 min, then my screen turns black.

It happens every time, I lengthen windows, my display drivers but nothing helped.
This started happening about 3 days ago, so I went back in time for a week, but it's always the same.
Someone has an idea to solve this problem?
Edit: now it does to wake from its slumber, the clean is when I cut the power or the hardshutdown. The screen remains black even after a couple of try tot restart the laptop. Im getting Desperate now.

I tried to make the window & window + R, C. They simply do not work. The only thing I can do a window + L & Ctrl + Alt + Delete. I opened my computer by using the Windows Task Manager. With my computer, I opened Google Chrome and I'm typing this now with a black screen Google Chrome, Windows Explorer and Windows Task Manager.

Task Manager, go to file > new task.

RSTRUI put in and this should start the system restore.

Choose a restore point a few days before this problem if it is available and you should be good to go.
