  The way it works is that you create an BIS on Oranges BIS page account on your PC browser, which is tied up your BB PIN code and this is where you can add (integrate) emial accounts. Now you can log into your BIS account and enable or disable the redirection of your BIS account and you can even turn off the data service on your device.

• Despite all the advice here, empty the cache, uninstall, reinstall etc messnger will not keep receiving error code 81000494. Why?

  Messenger does not open. Normal startup traverse; loading contacts etc then get message that messenger is not available to the general public and the 81000494 error code. Have followed all the advice; refreshed ip, cleared cache dns entries, authorized the program through firewall, uninstalled messenger, and reinstalled, but keep getting the same error and complete code.

  Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.

   

   

  Restore point:

  Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

  Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

  Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

  If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

  Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

  Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

  At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

  When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

  Download the Vista software from the link above.

  After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

  Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

  Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1^st in the boot order.

  Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

  When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

  Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

  Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

  Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

  I'm trying to be able to watch a movie in mp4 on my BB 8310 with a 2 gig SD card.  I'm on a corporate server.

  Dead end #1: start with a good ISO file, converted to MP4 with Nero.  I tried different conversion settigs.  Some parameters of give me a file that I can see, but the image is tiny, with perhaps half the area of screen.  Other parameters to produce a file that either can't be read, or that blocks the BB.

  Tired of this, I tried #2 dead-end: using BB Desktop Manager.  I tried the old version with service pack 2, 4.6 and 4.7.  Each install fails when it gets to the point where Roxio Media Manager should install - I get an error something along the lines of the system is not able to load (or find) a file, it needs.  (I completely uninstalled everything and reinstall; still NG.)

  This brings me to a dead end #3: I saw on the forum that some people use AkmeFFmpeg to create the file.  It does not, either.  I tried to use the ISO file and the well-known mp4 files.  On ISO, it seems that is not find a file any, that he needs.  On the mp4s, it produces a corrupted file.

  I'm very tired of turn around that and I hope someone can point me in the right direction.  TIA

  (A) I found a way to make it work.  I converted the ISO with Nero mp4 files.  The parameters were Nero digital category in the standard digital profile.  Then, I used the Akme converter to create a file that would work on the BB.  Here the parameters have been output file from mp4-Mpeg4/BB curve container 400 Kbps, 320 x 180, video codec mpeg4 simple profile, 400 / 800 Kbps, 24 fps.  It took many tests before finding a combo that worked.  With other combinations (on Nero and Akme) the mp4 file that results would not play on the BB and in some cases would not even appear in the directory of BB.  Now the movie fills the entire screen BB correctly.

  (B) having said that, this is my last RIM product.  Never.  I hope RIM people read these messages.  They have the nerve to sell a device that claims to play mp4s, and then the owner needs to go through these changes to make it work.  I don't think so.

  (C) how much RIM pay to Roxio for their software or Setup?  What a waste of shareholders ' money.

  In response to your question, I never could get Roxio Media Manager to load.  I did a clean install of three or four different versions of BB Desktop Manager, including the latest and best, and in all the installation would fail to install Roxio.

  Apparently RIM thinks they have their mp4 problems covered because one of their fans made a deal with their counterpart from Roxio.  Well, software that will not be installed no one is all good.  RIM should offer just a utility of simple conversion that takes any mp4 file and converts it into native mp4 playing on the RIM of the target model.  Gosh, how easy that would be?  Instead, sell your device such as mp4 ready, but let your customer to fend for themselves.

  (D) I have never been a person of Apple for various reasons, but the first time I get this BB is going to get smashed on the anvil; He will be replaced by an iPhone.  At least Apple right that their customers expect actually using the features vaunted for their devices, without the need for scientific experiments.

  It's the normal advice I'd give to record data; but we have no idea of the State of your hard drive.

  Saving your files:

  You can remove the hard drive and put it in a hard drive USB enclosure > plug it into another computer > and try to read and copy your data in this way.

  Or, you can download Knoppix > make a bootdisk to > start your system with it (IF your material is all work) > and copy your data from the hard drive like that.
