Boot loader help

When I turn on my computer, I have a boot loader, Windows 7 and Windows XP. When I choose XP, it comes up with a different bootloader! It has Windows (default) and Windows XP again. How do I remove Windows (default) and set the timer to 0?

Thank you.

Click Start > run > type msconfig > ok. In the new window click the boot.ini tab, click scan all boot paths button. All ineligible entries will be displayed with an option to remove. If this does not resolve the problem you can manually edit boot.ini text by clicking Start > run > type sysdm.cpl. In the property window click on the Advanced tab, and then on the button settings startup and recovery. In the new window, click on change. Find the invalid entry and delete it. You can also change time to display a list of the operating systems on this window or you can access prompt > type bootcfg timeout # (# represents the number of seconds that you want to display the list) sometimes to decide what battles to fight the toughest battle of all... • Windows 8.1 itself affecting no.: 1 in the order of boot loader

I treated myself to a HP Envy 700-230EA at the end of week.

I like to use a mixture of Windows and Linux (Opensuse) in a dual-boot system.  I found the HP guide on how to install a 2nd o/s using a DVD (disable secure boot / enable start legacy / choose ATAPI CD/DVD as the 1st boot option).  It worked well and a boot for Opensuse entry has been added to boot order options.  I left the ATAPI CD/DVD as the first option / had opensuse in option 2 - with the Windows bootloader in option 3.

With no CD/DVD automically p / boots in Opensuse.  When I re-start, it starts automatically in opensuse.  But every time I start Windows - windows is defined as the first option of the boot loader.  So I'll have to re - configure the boot loader option after every time I use Windows to Opensuse (which is a bit of a pain in th buttocks).     Is there an option that will allow me to block the order of boot loader to avoid it being re-established by each time I use Windows.

    Thank you very much

    Hi dth2,

The EFI bootloader will always take precedence where my suggestion to eliminate the UEFI mode and run mode inherited at the start of many operating systems.

Another issue I found is with the W8 bootloader. It causes a double boot, when I have to many operating systems on the same hard drive. Using EASYBCD will rewrite the boot program and bring back the traditional Boot Manager menu.  This solved my problem on three different computers.  Even if you do not change the bootloader with EASYBCD, click on record so that it will rewrite the bootstrapper.  See image for example below.

  • Remove the boot loader of Windows or at least to set a different default charger (UEFI)

I tried to remove the Windows boot loader or at least the value that it is the last thing in the list of shippers UEFI to try via the BIOS Acer. Nothing sticks. Whenever I reboot, no matter what bootloader, I put it, it will just reset it using the Windows bootloader and try loading something that isn't there. I deleted the windows and the recovery partitions because I don't need them.

I installed also refined and it sets itself as the default startup at the end of the installation manager. However, as soon as I restart, something in the BIOS Acer (I guess?) is taking control and forcing the Windows boot loader entry in the first place.

Refined and Grub, both work very well if I select them using F12 during startup, but I want one of them to be the default. How can I get this stick and get rid of the Windows Bootloader?

I solved it! I had to turn on Secure Boot so that I can get to the "Select a UEFI file as being approved for execution" option (otherwise it would be gray). Then I navigated to the refined bootloader and grubx64 of Debian. I added the two, then turned off Secure Boot. For some reason, that they were still in the boot list priority and I could now move them upward.

There could be pieces of the loader of Microsoft has left again, but I don't like because now the correct charger gets called first. Wheee! The BIOS version is 1.08 and I would install 1.13 anyway. It seems that only works with Windows, however, the BIOS is impossible to himself from inside the BIOS?

Edit: Found the InsydeFlash tool. I'll try that. Edit2: Human resources management, is something closed-source they sell at ridiculous prices. So I guess I won't be upgrading the BIOS.

You can't update 1.x to 2.x and you do not need.

you just erase you the Ubuntu grub after windows 10 installation, follow the first link on the post of JordanB.

  • CRC of the MBR or UEFI boot loader changes at each reboot?

I have a Fujitsu Esprimo desktop running Windows 7 Professional.  Whenever I restart, it stops before loading Windows with the following message:

"The CRC of the MBR boot drive or the UEFI boot loader has changed since the last system startup.
Press a key to enter setup. »
To continue, I need to go into the BIOS Setup, output without any change, then Windows loads normally.  This repeat on the next reboot.
I have run chkdsk on the drive system (c :)), and no problem not found.
What would do this, and how can I change it?

I have never activated this setting on my laptop. I don't know exactly what it checks - if it's just the MBR or other things like Bootmgr and BCD. On a system with only Windows 7 installed, I don't expect the MBR and Bootmgr to change after installation. If this started after an update? Reliability Monitor may show changes with has occurred around the time it started.

I guess that the Fujitsu support have verified that you have the most up to the date of the BIOS. Have you tried to disable the warning of viruses and then allowing him once again in which case it must be reset? Even if it is a boot virus, I don't expect to be changing in order to cause the detection at each start. If you want to eliminate this possibility, it is preferable to use a virus scan offline as Windows Defender in offline mode.

An outside possibility is that Webroot is something clever with these files that is causing the problem.

You can reset the MBR and Bootmgr using the method here:

  • How to upgrade the boot loader?

    We have a Cisco SF300 - 48P 48-Port 10 / 100 PoE switch with Gigabit Uplinks.

In the documentation for the new 1.3.5.x firmware, it says:

"Before the upgrade to version 1.3.5 the bootloader must also be updated. If 1.3.5 version using the initial boot loader, file system is not updated to level, and in the future the user will not be able to upgrade to versionshigher than 1.3.5. »

How to place the boot loader?

I see nothing in the documents in order to establish what boot loader there.

We are currently running firmware 1.3.0.62.

    The statistics page says:

    (Image Active) firmware version: 1.3.0.62
    (Non-Active) firmware version: 1.1.2.0
    Version of boot: 1.0.0.4

What is the best way to properly install this firmware 1.3.5.x?

    Thank you, Tom

    Hello:

Darren is correct, that you need to update the boot via TFTP code. His instructions are correct for when you get the TFTP server defined and loaded file in it. There are many free TFTP server applications on the net that you can download. One of my favorites for Windows is TFTPD32 (or TFTPD64 for 64-bit machines). There are both free applications Mac but I don't have that I use.

Once you have a TFTP server installed on your machine, place the file with 'BOOT' in the name of the TFPT Server directory. Directed by Darren: go/file management and select backup/upgrade the Firmware, go to "via TFTP' and select 'Boot Code.' Put the IP address of the server or computer that runs the TFTP software and the name of the file and apply the update.

Reboot the switch and the bootloader is now updated!

Then follow the normal procedure for the upgrade of the firmware: go to the file management /-> Firmware Upgrade / Backup-> "via the HTTP protocol' and find your firmware file and apply.

  • MacBook Pro glued on the filled during boot loading bar

My MacBook Pro (end of 2011; El Capitan 10.11.5) is recently become insensitive at the point of being unusable, so I decided to do a clean install, since I had to do one for a while anyway. Once I reinstalled El Capitan, I took my SSD (Samsung 840 EVO; 500 GB) out of the enclosure and put it back in my MacBook Pro, but it wouldn't boot. As a first step, it loaded so slowly that I decided to reset the NVRAM, who ends up helping just a little. The loading bar fills now halfway to the top with the usual speed, but after that, it takes a few minutes to complete. And once it is full, nothing happens. He remains on the Apple logo and the bar filled little matter how long wait.

I also put the 500 GB SSD with the clean install in an another MacBook (Late 2008) and it works fine, so the problem must be related to hardware, I just can't determine what exactly. I tried to do an AHT, but basic and extended trials got stuck shortly after and gave me no result. I had trouble with the kernel panics, so I suspect that something may be wrong with my RAM, as I exchanged the 4 GB to 16 GB just now. But before you go out and spend money on the new RAM, I wanted to know if maybe someone runs into this behavior before and knows exactly what's going on or if not how I understand what is wrong.

Almost all of the kernel panic seemed to happen every time I was using Photoshop or video in Safari streaming. I'll post an old report of kernel panic, but a problem with Time Machine has led to the removal of all my past, with the exception of the most recent backups. I hope someone can help me find another way to understand what is wrong.

Update: I just tried it on an other SSD (same model, 250 GB) which has been working well in my older MacBook and this time I get an error message as soon as the loading bar starts to fill to the top. It remains for a few seconds, then the MacBook stops and starts again; This continues in an endless loop. I have attached a picture below.

I really don't know how exactly to interpret this, but this looks like a kernel panic for me. What is my RAM after all? I appreciate any comment on that.

Connect the SSD to the external MBP via USB and see if it will start the MBP.  If so, the internal SATA cable is suspect.

If you can get the MBP to start, then you can start to deal with panics of the kernel:

FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, THIS WILL HELP YOU A LOT. THX SO MUCH.

    Hi Lisa,

Dune 2000 must be running in XP compatibility mode, because it is a Windows 98 / Me game.

We recommend uninstall you it, restart your PC, then use the program compatibility Wizard to install this program, select Windows 98 / Me compatibility & tick disable visual themes.

To find the program compatibility Wizard:

In XP, go to start > all programs > Accessories > the program compatibility Wizard

Otherwise, you may just update your graphics card driver. To know what card you have, simply type dxdiag in your box to run (in Start Menu) and when the report has finished building, look the view tab to see the name of your card. Now Google the manufacturer and find their driver updated the page, enter your model and download and install new drivers. Reboot your PC and start the game.
