Boot Toshiba 320 GB EXT HDD fault

Hi all I am new here just subscribed, because you guys seem to know your stuf!

I am rather im pc literate, a music video producer and use TWO Ext HD to save most of my work.

Ive had this Toshiba 320 GB for about a year now, without any problems, never been damaged. But recently in the last week has started to struggle shooting up Makin a "ticking" sound of the HD itself. I've tried it on other computers, I have tried with different power supplies, and now I've left on for two days, and its still not started upward.

It's really urgent that I'm working for several labels and need my work as soon as POSSIBLE.
Other than sendin it to a data recovery Center is there anything I could do?
Or why would it past that I used to breed?

I recently buy two Seagate 500 GB these are well-known for bein strong one never fail.

Please, please, please if anyone can help I'd be grateful massivly.

Soon, I'll check here every day for any comment.

Hello

This doesn't look good...

If you're lucky, you can read data from the HARD drive with a recovery of data such as OnTrack Easy Recovery software.

If you can't get your data back with this software, the only way to retrieve the data is to send your HARD drive to a data recovery company, but it is very expensive.

I had the same problem with an external HARD drive and I was able to save my data with OnTrack software.

I wish you good luck, because I produce, too... ;)

I'm having a similar problem. Thank you

    Hello

Usually, this information you will find in the decryption of product.
But if the dealer says it is only compatible with Windows XP and W2k so I put t believe that it runs on Win ME OS.
But as sascha said you can test, and if you know the result, please report it.

    Hello

I put t know why the Pro M30 or M30 is not listed under compatible devices and supported but I n t think that there might be a problem.
This external HARD drive using a USB connection and as far as I know the laptop supports 3 USB 2.0 ports. It seems the HARD disk should work

But I think that each dealer would also test the HARD drive before you buy.

  • Disk Toshiba 320 GB external hard takes 3 minutes to go to the top

In 2006, I bought my external hard drive Toshiba 320 GB, USB 2.0. IT worked fine until a week ago. Whenever I want to use it, I turn on with the switch at the rear of the car. The blue light turns on and then... nothing.

After a few minutes (it varies between 3 and 10) the drive suddenly makes a noise (it turns upward?) start and the drive is recognized by Windows. I use Windows XP Service Pack 3. A few times when I also turn on my second external drive it als gets automatically recognized, sometimes not.

Once it is recognized, the drive works perfectly without errors.

I looked in the event viewer of windows, without errors or warnings there. When I restart Windows, the drive is not recognized immediately (also takes about 3 minutes). I tried ending task assignment to see if there was programs 'blocking' of the reader, but it would not help.

Does anyone have any advice for me I can try more? Or perhaps had the same problem and solved somehow?

    Hello!

Have you plugged the HDD on the same PC or laptop as before?
As Akuma has said, try it on another PC.

If you have another USB cable that you use to test.

    Good bye

  • Toshiba 320 GB USB 2.0 HARD drive freezes computer

I just bought a Toshiba 320 GB USB 2.0 HARD drive and every time I try to transfer the data of light go red after 20 seconds and the computer crashes. The only way I can sort is by turning it off at the wall. The HARD drive works fine via a USB1.0 port and other devices like printers etc joysticks work fine through my USB 2.0 Pci card, but not my HARD drive, any ideas what this could be?
    Thank you

    Hello

You can also try to use the USB1.0 port. But if you want to use data transfer high, you can try to use the firewire port. Using Firewire USB2 adapter for example.

  • Toshiba 320 GB external HARD drive all of a sudden think this is my 160 GB drive!

    PC: Toshiba Satellite A305D-S6848
Accessories: Toshiba 320 GB USB external hard drive; MODEL: HDDR320E03X
    Toshiba 160 GB USB external hard drive;
    MODEL: HDDR160E03X

The other day I started my laptop with these two drives already connected. Suddenly, my 320 USB drive, that's half full of music and video, insists that it is the only capacity of 160 GB and if it is full but shows no files.

I already tried to run diskcheck... nothing helps... Suggestions to recover the date on this drive because it is only a few weeks old and has all of this information on this subject.

    Thanx

It works on another PC? Maybe the user has installed a bad USB driver or something.

If this does not work on another PC, you can try data recovery tools. Google search for "data recovery utility.

It could be that the external hard drive is going bad.  Have you tried to use your backup copies of the files on the drive / another drive on the same computer?

    (1) this is what worry?        (2) how do I get it out of the 'red zone '?                  It is actually said "Local disk (e :)) 13.5 GB free of 149 GB" (which includes a "System Image" - if I remember correctly). To do this, "incramental' back-up, I think...

    Thank you, Chris.

We use the term "housekeeping."  It's when you wipe the hard drive

Formatting seems ok, but actually considered clearing, repartition the drive.

    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_formatting

I suggest you do a normal backup and then differential periodically.  This avoids that the difference between the initial backup and changes made to the files.  If you are happy with the changes, do the differential backup.  When you make other changes and that you do not have the old files, it is safe to do a new differential backup and delete the previous.  This saves disk space.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/136621/en-us

You can save the backup on DVD files and store them still freeing up hard drive space.  In addition, it is recommended to store them in your home disaster (earthquake, fire, etc.).  Ex: Safe, best friend or the relative's House.

Hello. My 32-bit Windows 7 computer is used to save to ext hdd daily, well... then it just yesterday stopped by himself... :(   Someone knows why?

I have explored a bit, but could not find answers, but I managed, a few minutes before, FORTUNATELY, to allow my computer its 'pilot' automatically update, in the future... :)
    - But I couldn't see any solution to my problem... :(
PS - There are 135 GB of free space on my 150 GB ext hdd, so its certainly not complete...

    Hello

I'm glad that you were able to solve the problem. I suggest that you post the second query by creating a new thread. This allows to avoid confusion.
  • Project of restoring links on the other computer, with the ext hdd same source files

I was working a project with all the source files for the project on an ext hdd. This machine in particular, then crashed and I have more access to it. data recovery after extensive (and expensive), I got the program from the old pc files and some of them include the first pro files. Is it possible to link these data, creation of a new pro, always the same machine using the ext hdd with the source files? Thank you

That's the advantage of keeping your external media.

Just open the project first on the new computer.  So you should not need to be reprinted media if the external drive has not changed its name from Volume and is saved as the same drive letter (PC).

Worst case, when you open the project of the missing file dialog box will open.  Make sure to repeat others is checked and navigate to the folder / outside looking.

Once reconnected, save the project and then...

go and drop your auto save preferences to the external location, so you don't have to retrieve project files crashed in the future!

  • Re: Boot from external USB HARD drive Toshiba 320 GB (MK3259GSX)

I have PC (Windows7, SATA HDD, without CD/DVD drive), netbook and Toshiba External USB HDD 320 GB (MK3259GSX). Can I boot from the USB HDD? (to install OS or diagnostic tools like Memtest, MHDD etc..)

    I tried:
1 format USB HDD, create the FAT32 partition and make active, copy the files, for example, ISO image of Windows 7 (I also tried bootsect/nt60), but when I reboot and choose from the menu of boot USB HDD it stops after "Verifying DMI pool data".
2 Grub4dos (http://grub4dos.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page), but also had nothing after verifying DMI pool Data given.
    3. If you want to install Windows 7, I tried this tool, http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool, but it did not find my USB HDD.

    Sorry for my English.

Has your computer laptop USB boot option?

Anyway, is unclear to me that you can use this disk external DRIVE for the installation of the OS?

  • Toshiba 320 GB external USB HDD has stopped working

    Hello

Recently this evening my external hard drive has stopped working. I can start it and the blue light shows, but it seems that the arm of reading or the mechanical part is stuck or does not start. It has a very low and repetitive clicking noise.
Before I used to get a strong enough * Click * when starting and now nothing. Nothing does load in windows either, and remains undetected.

I thought that I could send to repair if it's arm which is broken or needs other than tighteneing as, it's a pretty desperate situation that recently, I cleaned my computer and used the external hard drive as back up, with all of my work for the last 8 years on this subject...

And I can't afford a recovery of data of 300 books, either.

    null

Possibly the HARD drive died completely. I mean it might be possible that a head crash could cause this problem.
My HARD drive died in the past, it was a laptop internal, HDD, and before that the HARD drive is dead, I noticed a strange rattling noise.
After a restart the laptop the drive HARD was not accessible
Well, HARD disk crash is not an uncommon problem and it always happens
So, in most cases, it s also should back up the data twice. That is to say: on DVD, CD, etc.

  • Toshiba 1 TB portable HDD USB 3.0 Stor.E questions

    Hi all

Bought a Toshiba Stor.E partner 1 TB external HDD USB 3.0 for my wife for the advent of ebay. Use it on an Optiplex GX620 under Windows XP (SP3) via a USB 2.0 port that I bought it and in the future will be able to make use of USB 3.0

I tried to format the HARD disk of 1 TB straight on the box and it took forever to get to the stage 13% (20 min) = when he started just turn off and on, immediately... it's 5 times until I cancelled the format and once I did he remained for about 4-5 minutes before it is rotated to the bottom of his...

So I did a quick format, which went well with no stop downs which took about 1-2 minutes of dishes...

So I put a 1 GB on it .avi file to see how it will play and it went well until what 5 minutes in the video when I noticed a sudden break of the video for a milli second or 2 - enough to be frustrating. Then I heard the car apparently closed (a snoring and a stop of the head... apparently, although the file was still play)-even if I heard the spin in the car down and maybe stop he kept playing the file, but a break of milli seconds every 2-3 seconds of reading file - it would be the nspin upward once again and after 3-4 minutes turning down strong enough... (no sanding, etc. or click, just a loud snoring with a sort of stop the sound)

The file plays fine out of the Office for 30 minutes, so forget the system - the same file plays very well from my Maxtor external drive on the same USB port.

Tried the 1 TB of HDD on my Panasonic TH - L42ET5A LED LCD TV and played previews apparently ok but I could hear a beep from the command every 3-4 seconds... and it didn't sound right and seemed to be all of a sudden stop and restart...

The fact, that it cannot format wihtout shutting down/restarting and can not play a video file without a break every 2-3 seconds means that it wont be good enough for me...

Note: on the same USB 2.0 port I use all my other USB drives work = very well no problem...

Is - this disc a lemon?

I hear that after July 2012, Toshiba has changed the firmware or the Commission on these discs of style and others in this forum have similar problems with stop/stop suddenly the rotation disc = however, this one is set up I think that's not a good set upwards.

I'm not quite sure of the issue described, but strange noises from a HARD m disc would be a sign of failure of the HARD drive
On the other hand, the HARD drive is a HARD drive 3.0 and it must 900mA on the bus power.
The USB 2.0 port allows only to 500mA.

I m not very well if this may be the reason here, but you should try to use the HDD with USB 3.0 or to a hub USB extended in the contrary case, it may be a HARD drive problem.

  • Toshiba DT01ACA 3 TB HDD - How can I check the status of the HARD drive?

    Mediocre and slow HARD drive.

Maybe there's a proprietary software for Toshiba HDD?
    I have Windows 7 x 64.

I want to test yourself. If the HARD drive is not working properly, then take the warranty service.

    Thank you for your help.

I think you might need to install some sort of 3rd party software.
For example the tool as + CrystalDiskInfo + it s HARD/SSD drive utility software that takes over a part of the connection USB and Intel RAID.
