  My HP Compaq 6510 b has been infected by the virus of defense crypto. I searched like crazy and could not find any solution and decided to sacrifice my photos and videos.   I searched online again and said I need a cd of Vista or Windows 7, but I don't have that. They also said that it is the only way to fix the laptop. So now I'm out of options and hoping someone here can help me.

  Try the following.

  If you do not, use another PC to create a rescue CD Windows 7.  Download the ISO relevant among the links below - if you are not sure, first try the 64 bit version.

  Windows 7 32 bit

  Windows 7 64 bit

  You must use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn options) to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc is here.

  When creating, type following the ESC key as soon as you start the launch of the laptop Boot Menu, and then insert the rescue CD.  Select boot options (usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and press ENTER.  You can also get a prompt to "Press any key to" continuous - it if requested.

  Select the "Repair your computer" option and follow Option 2 in the guide on the link below to run the Startup Repair - you may need to run this 2 or 3 times.

  manufacturer's recovery disks are the brand and the specific model

  for HP, press F11 at startup to start the recovery process

  or contact HP and ask them to send you in vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

  they do it for a nominal cost of $

  or borrow a vista microsoft dvd

  Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

  they contain all versions of vista

  This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed
