Boredom of pre-start to logon

Thank you.

Method 1 doesn't seem to be relevant, but method 2 is on the right track.  The solution was the Panel--> HP protect Tools Security Manager--> Administration--> administration Console--> security--> security pre-boot system increase (uncheck).  My ProBook now boots directly to the opening of session Windows 8, which is what I wanted.  "" It's a very steep learning curve, especially since "increase the security of the system" is a misnomer; It can actually decrease the security of the system!

Thank you!

Hello

Thanks for posting in the HP Support forum.

I appreciate your opinion on the pre-boot authentication.

However, I am part of a security team at HP, and I kinda disagree. Preboot authentication PBA (and the whole disk encryption) is a sound method to increase the security of the given system (physical security mainly).

A PBA environment serves as an extension of the boot (BIOS) firmware and guarantees a secure and inviolable environment external to the operating system as a reliable authentication layer. The PBA prevents any operating system from loading until the user has confirmed that it has the correct credentials to unlock the computer. That trusted layer eliminates the possibility that one of the millions of lines of code in the OS can jeopardize privacy staff or the company data.

If you encrypted hard drive + pre-boot authentication, data are not accessible without authentication. However, if your computer's data is not encrypted and there is no ABP if your computer is stolen or if a well informed IT guy is present in front of the machine, then all of your data stored on the computer are vulnerable and can be access even if your Windows/Linux/Mac could have user account passowrd.

If you want to discuss this, please do not hesitate to answer. I'd like to hear your opinion about it.

  • Client VPN 3.6.3.B - start before logon - connection fails immediately

It is the most extraordinary and I can't decide if the problem is with the VPN, Windows 2000 Dialer, the Toshiba Tecra 9100 or a combination of both.

The problem happens when 'Enable start before logon' is ticked on and I try to dial up the ISP before logging on to Windows. When you click the button to connect, the historical connection window immediately:

    Initializing the connection...

Cannot establish a connection with your ISP.

The modem never seems to receive the command to dial a number.

    Other specific comments:

    1. If I'm already connected to standalone Windows on the laptop (i.e. not connected to a local network), the VPN dialer works perfectly and I am able to establish a tunnel (although I can't authenticate with a domain controller)

    2. on this same machine with the same version of the VPN Client, I have not experience this problem when Windows XP has been installed. (I hate XP that is installed on the new machine. I downgraded to Windows 2000 SP2 After reformatting the hard drive.)

Everyone knows about this problem? Does anyone have suggestions for troubleshooting?

    Hello

I you suggest trying to create a new entry for remote access for the access provider (using the dial-up connection to the Public Network option), and then try to use NFP, or on the other hand you can try creating a new vpn connection entry and then try that as well.

This feature works fine with 3.6.3 client versions.

  • I want to put two applications to auto-start on logon [XP]. Can't seem to understand this. Help, please.

I am running in classic mode, but can run in XP mode.

It depends on the requests.  Some applications can be configured to start when Windows starts by using an option in the menu 'Options' or 'Preferences' of the application.

If not, just put a shortcut to the exe of the application in the startup folder.  Here's a way to do it:

    1. create the shortcut

    • Right-click on an empty area of the desktop and select new > shortcut
    • Click the 'Browse' button, navigate to the application exe file, usually in C:\Program Files\ and click OK
    • Click next
    • To change the name (for example, delete the .exe and capitalize)
    • Click on finish

    2. click and drag your new shortcut to the right side of the desktop temporarily.

    3. click on start > all programs, and then right-click on start and select open

    4. drag your new shortcut in the startup folder and close the file

Is it possible to make the process transparent to the end user so that they only connect once to Windows and it will take these credentials to connect to Anyconnect as well? Do I have to use certificates for authentication? Also, is there any gotchyas I need to know?

    Xavier,

The user normally connects, the client automatically downloads the Gina Module (EPP) and the XML profile with SBL option set to true (this during the login process).

  • Explorer.exe does not start at startup, and it does not display beyond the logon screen?

I have a friends Compac laptop and he managed to stop loading explorer.exe when starting after logon is complete. I can't for the life of me remember what I have to do to restore this process in the startup routine so that his office will be in charge. He has an extraordinary number of startups, but he managed to remove this (essential) program, especially in lists of useless junk that is responsible.

It's a compact with an Intel processor running Vista and of course it doesn't have the ERD. There is a recovery on the hard drive partition and if I knew how to use it, maybe this would a repair option, but I'm not clear on how to use either because there is no literature or what he had with the computer. By way of explanation, he is a foster child and had been tossed around a lot, so it's not too surprise that it doesn't have any of these materials.

Go to this site and download the tool in a removable device like flash memory:

    Can anyone help!

When I start a program (for example. Sonos controller) on my laptop my mouse pointer stops working. It does not happen with all programs!

This problem happens using the touchpad only or have you noticed the freezing of cursor using the external USB mouse too?

What is the notebooks touchpad works properly without loading and using this 3rd party software?
For example, work the touchpad with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, etc.) or navigation in internet by using IE or Chrome?

My guess is that the pre-installed 3rd application part could affect the functionality of the touchpad.

  • Satellite L655-178 - which partition will be available to start?

    Hello

My Satellite L655-178 comes with active EFI Insyde H2O Bios. Apparently this BIOS needs to access the HARD disk before starting Windows. Nobody knows in which partition occurs this pre-start HARD drive access?

My laptop has 3 partitions on a 500 GB HARD drive
-400 MB Hidden Partition (without drive letter assigned)
    -C: Windows Partition
D: a Partition of data (with HDD recovery)

My guess is the Insyde H2O Bios to access the Pre-boot 400 MB hidden partition?

    Am I wrong?

    Thanks :)

    Hey,.

Your question is interesting, but may I ask why is it important? Serious errors on your laptop?

Well, first of all, you know that the 400 MB hidden partition is not the boot partition. It contains only the files of Windows recovery environment and cannot be accessed during boot I think. Just read this article:
    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Recovery_Environment

As you can see, it s a Windows feature and has nothing to do with Toshiba.

In any case, the start player C: partition will be accessible for on this Windows partition is installed. All that s!

But until Windows starts, the BIOS HARD drive search internal, but it doesn't have access to all data of it. The BIOS simply check if an internal HARD drive is installed and it is indifferent to what you have on it of the partitions.

    Hello Buzbyb6,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

I have a few questions to help you solve your problem.

    • When you try to start you get a blue screen? If so, then try to get the error code number that appears. This will give us more insight as to what might be causing your problem.
    • You can start safe mode? Press F8 boot to Vista. then select Safe Mode.

Some of the things that might cause this problem would be a corrupt file system, bad Ram, or a defective hardware.

    • If you can access the SafeMode. Run CHKDSK to fix the file system. Go to a command prompt and type chkdsk/r
    • Check the RAM with Memtest since a bootable floppy or CD. www.memtest.org
    • Check the disk for bad sectors.
    • If it's just a damaged OS, backup your data and run recovery to restore Windows to its factory condition.

If please post again and let us know if your problem is resolved or if you need further assistance.

    Sincerely,

Run the Diagnostics, restart the computer and as soon as it starts to boot press f12. Select 'Diagnostic' in the start menu. The computer will run its evaluation tests of pre-seed for 3 or 4 minutes before the start of the Dell Diagnostics. These pre-start tests play a few beeps and tones in the speaker system, but it does not cover the rest of the audio material, always let the Dell Diagnostics running after that finished pre-start tests. Dell Diagnostics plays an instrumental piece of music complete with battery, so if you hear only certain tones then you only run the pre assessment test.

When Dell Diagnostics opens, select "custom", then the audio test. This will test your system audio regardless of Windows and drivers, meaning that it is not serious if they are working properly or not. Alternatively using headphones and listen to the speakers in case is working alone.

Dell Diagnostics will play some audio and ask you if you heard. If you answer 'no' then the test generates an error code means that you indicated that you did not hear the sounds she played, but it is not and can not locate the exact component that went wrong. If you do not hear the music during the test, it certainly means that there is somewhere a hardware failure in the system. In this case Dell will repair the computer if it is still under warranty.

If you do not hear the sound, which means that the material is correct, but there is a problem with the software or configuration.

    OK, im losing my mind.

I bought a copy of airborne for my 32 bit vista system and found initially that I had to do a few tricks to install and play it like UN-installing ageia phys-x, it was simple enough. Well I have had since stopped playing it and would try to uninstall without result. I tried to fix it and using "C-cleaner.

I went down some of the files, but I think that my registry is a little buggy so I tried blocking it with c cleaner, he sure found several errors and fixesd them.

Well, I'm trying now to re - install MOHA and when I put the disc and click autorun the pre-start games window appears with the usual options, play, upgrade, site Web etc... I hit play, it does nothing. I tried to uninstall it from the disk and to halfway through she said "MOHA has not stopped the Installation Wizard prematurely try again later". I can't repair or uninstall or install. I read somewhere that it is a firewall with windows problem and if I run my firewall victory "which I have never on", this should work if the software is added to the 'green' list on the firewall.

now I find that I can not get my firewall to start. I researched and found a few forums where people explained to the services command prompt and tried to 'start' several 'order' in there and firewall programs will not start giving me this error-windows cannot start service windows firewall. and the code of error-6801.

I am a novice to tooling autour under the 'software' hood of PCs. I know a bit about the material and that's it. anyone has any ideas for me? otherwise I'm looking to another disorder vista install, I had a moment difficult, installation of the 1st hour and im not not looking forward to try it again...

    Hi rocknerd,.

You can try to download the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and try to remove the game, and then reinstall it.

You can read the following article to download the Windows Installer Cleanup utility:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/290301

    1. click on Start , then select all programs

    2. in all programs , click Windows Installer Cleanup; the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility window appears, listing the software currently installed on your computer.

    3. Select the game in the list, then click on Remove. If you have multiple files, delete all the.

After you run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility try to re install the game and check if it works on your computer.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • ePSA question Pre boot

While researching a slow start upward, I ran this test pre start of ePSA series.  There are only 98% before, I left.  I did see a very brief flash of a message which says "'waiting for completion DST".  After 2 hours, I stopped the test.  Is there a problem here?

    Hi Jkorber,

    Welcome to the Dell Community.

I understand that you tried to run the test of the ePSA on the computer. Usually the pre-seed assesment test should take about 5-10 minutes depending on the system configuration.  Because it is not clear how the test has been done, I would ask you to click on the link below. There the steps and the link with difficulty if an error code appears in the test.

    http://Dell.to/MNniAq

Also, it is recommended that you disconnect all sources of power to the computer and then press on and press and hold power for 10 seconds and then plug the power supply to the computer until the test is conducted. This allows to release static electricity.

Please come back if there is any other questions. Happy to help you.
