Buy a laptop

Hello

I am considering the purchase of a Dell laptop and would like some advice about what to buy. I'll use it for navigation for most and a few games of light. I would also like to know whether or not be rehabilitated one that I am on a pretty tight budget. My current budget is less than $300. If anyone has any advice on what to buy and where to I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the research.

$300 will only buy you a laptop with a Celeron processor, with a warranty of one year, for light gaming, better to buy a laptop with i5 processor.

With a laptop computer, personally I found best he extend the guarantee at least three years.

  • I'm about to buy a laptop. Is there a way to get my "word" on my desktop PC to share with my new laptop?

I want to know if there is a method of sharing WORD with my new computer laptop? I have not bought, but the guys at PC world say they will give me an agreement with WORD if I buy this laptop. I think I already have WORD on my desktop PC, so I was wondering if it can be shared with the laptop?

It depends on which version of Word or office you have.  The license in retail box is good for 3 PCs, the OEM version is only good for one, on which it is installed.  You can buy the family version and student for about $140 or, if necessary, and you can download the Word VIEWER free Microsoft web site.  If you happen to have the disc for a version with a site license, you can also install that, but most of the people have no access to it.  Most new computers these days come preloaded with a trial version which is good for a month or two, but after that, you are supposed to pay to the top.  Regardless of the version you get, you will be able to open existing documents.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

  • Buy a laptop in France

    Hello

My husband works in France and need to buy a new laptop while he's there. He obviously needs it in English - can it change the language on the phone so that all programs, etc., are in English, it is therefore able to understand?

Told us how to do this via "control panel" but I tried it on our pc at home (in England), but the only thing that changed was when I logged on the internet!

I can just be being a typical woman and do something wrong but could really do with help!

    See you soon!

    Hello Betwood,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.  The best way to handle this situation is that if your husband buys a laptop in France just get him he gets the English version of the software for Vista and not in French.   If the operating system CD is in another language, other that English, you can change the language 'show' below are the steps to add a display language, but also a link to the instructions for changing the display language.

The display language is the language that Windows uses in wizards, dialog, menus, help topics, and media boxes, and other elements of the user interface. Some display languages are installed by default, and others require you to install additional language files. When you change the display language, it is changed for your user account and is not changed on the Welcome screen. If you want to set the display language for multiple users or the home screen, see apply regional and language to reserved accounts settings .

    1.

Open regional and Language Options, click on the Start button , by clicking on the Control Panel, click clock, language, and region, and then clicking regional and Language Options.

    2.

Click the keyboards and languages tab.

    3.

Under display language, select a language in the list, and then click OK.

My father always tells me that it is much better to do it with it already installed... -Is this worth the wait?

    Hello

I would recommend you take advantage of the offer of discounts for Windows 8.

Normally, it would be better to buy a computer with the latest version of Windows pre-installed because the computer could be certified to run the pre-installed operationg system.

However, in this case, all the computers that are available with the upgrade of $15 are all designed to run the final version of Windows 8.

    Concerning

  • How can I reinstall a Windows 8 if I buy a laptop MSI with it preinstalled?

I plan to buy MSI CR70 2 M, the model I chose is delivered with preinstalled Win8. As the seller told me, no installation disc comes with the laptop.

I want to be able to reinstall Windows 8 in order to:

    (1) to format the HARD drive, including all the "hidden partition" and whatnot, in order to remove the bloatware manufacturer and make full use of the 500 GB drive that I paid for. I prefer also to partition my disk system disks is apart from all the rest, and all the data user and other things is on another disk, so that it is easier to reinstall System wtihout having back up your documents and other data.

Regions, then I would need to reinstall Windows 8 after that I have format.

    (2) try to install Windows 7 (I own a copy of it) and if I don't like how he behaves or I have driver problems, back to Windows 8. I don't want a dualboot, because if I'm satisfied with the performance of Windows 7 I never want to touch Windows 8 because I don't think it's a good OS for mobile phones or anything really that isn't a touch screen. I have therefore no use for Windows 8 either. But if something does not work, I would go back to Windows 8.

    (3) reinstall Windows when, like for all windows, it ends up by slowing down to a crawl and dies after several software installs and uninstalls and other things that happen to a life above OS. (I'd be happy to make a clean backup and restore to it instead of reinstalling, if the laptop would not come with pre-installed bloatware)

I understand, there may be certain guarantees and other things in place by Microsoft to fight against piracy, but as I see it, I'll buy a BONE, and I want to be able to reinstall the operating system, at least on the computer I bought it comes with.

    Alexey salvation,

I apologize for my late reply and appreciate your research.

There are various options to remove the bloatware that are detailed below.

    Option 1:

You are considering buying a new laptop, I suggest you buy a laptop under DOS and Windows 8.1 media to buy separately. You can install on your own on this laptop and you will get any-bloatware preinstalled by the OEM.

    Option 2:

You can buy a product key for Windows 8.1 and create an installation media for the installation. You must not 'refresh' or 'reset' of the PC. You can delete old partitions and create fresh partitions on the drive that will eliminate all the bloatware.

    Option 3:

'Refresh' or 'Reset' to your PC as indicated in previous answers and uninstall the bloatware manually in the windows programs and features in Control Panel (like almost all things can be uninstalled manually).

According to your needs with a separate retail product license or installation of the retail media version is a better option that won't let you go to your "day 1 computer"(OEM imagé). "»

Hope this information is useful. Let us know if you need additional information on the issue.

    Hello

I am planning to buy a laptop for first 14 elements. I would get a good laptop, but I wonder if these specifications are overkill for what I actually need to run the program comfortably.  Is the graphics card too? Is the processor too? I am new to this.

Any help or advice are appreciated.

These system requirements are generally minimum or "for better performance.

You should get good results with the 1920 x 1080 or 1600 x 900, but you have to go with the native resolution of the display. Is that what you found a 17-inch monitor that offers a native resolution of 1920 x 1080?

Generalization - the setting of the resolution of the screen, the smaller will be the text and images for more information on the screen.

But the highest resolution is indicated for working with photos and graphic details.

Please read the following to determine if it has merit for you in the 17 in monitor question and resolution.

What is the resolution of the screen and why is it important? TI-donut

  • Updated Vista good together when buying new laptop

As far as I am informed buyers of a Toshiba laptop with preinstalled OEM Windows XP have a voucher to receive a license of Vista update for little money that it is proposed and discussed between Microsoft and OEM partners.

This is made possible, for those who buy a new laptop or desktop starting up this March 2007.with 26.10.2006 an OEM-version Windows XP pre-installed in order to offer these customers the option to boot with Vista Home Edition, Professional Edition, or Media Center Edition.
Is - this true message? If so, do the customers who bought this year earlier a Toshiba laptop, because they had to, also have a possibility to get this good?

    Hey John

I heard the same information on Vista credit notes.
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/generic_content.jsp?service=EU&ID=2006-09-Vista-capable-en

More I read somewhere on the net that all those who buy a new Windows XP Pro up to March 2007 can get a Windows Vista more or less for free.
But I put t know exactly if it of right.

  • I want to buy Toshiba laptop with Ubuntu and windows

I want to buy a new laptop.
I don't want to pay 300 quid for yet another stupid Windows (if they are just a version properly, people don't need to keep buying new... oh wait... they make more money...).

Others don't offer laptops with Ubuntu (and not windows).

I find myself here, and Toshiba appear also does not provide laptops without windows.
Why? Why Toshiba offer laptops with pre-installed Ubuntu with no windows?

I use Ubuntu for 3 years, and altogether, he transformed my daily calculation. No more bloody virus, not 5 minutes log-ins/closures, no more program - crashing down the entire system. It is faster, safer, more flexible and * free *.

But because Toshiba do not appear to offer it, they can't get my habit (I'm in Ireland, so Toshiba options open to me may be different in other countries).

    Hello

First of all it s a forum from user to user and you get no response from Toshiba here in the forum.

But as much as I know that Toshiba laptops are not delivered with the distributions Linux.
Of course, you can install Linux if you want, but laptops are delivered with the Windows operating system. As far as I know with win 7 64 bit and 32 bit OS.

    Welcome them

  • If I buy a laptop at the Canada will work here in the United Kingdom?

I was wondering if I bought a laptop in canada she would work here?

I got my 3 recent laptops (Yes, 3 toshibas) of the States and their use in Europe. Everything works as it should.

The only differences would be out of the TV... it's Europe Pal and NTSC Canada, but there is no need to worry because it's usually adjustable from inside the BIOS settings. (please have this confirmed through owners)

In addition, the reader DVD Canada works in a region other than our 2 European region, but this can be changed 4 times, until it is permanently attached.

The power supply is self-switching too, allowing you to use your laptop to 110 Volts - 232 Volts without the need to buy a different model. Only a hardware adapter (max of 2 Euro) may be necessary to make it fit within our caps.

The only problem you might face is locate spare parts (mainly the chassis). I've seen a few models that have different chassis in Europe and Foreign Affairs. But in case you need something, you will always have access to appropriate spare parts because they are widespread in the whole of the internet.

    Good and bye buy ;)
