Buying a laptop Alienware with SSD, where OS is installed?

Hello
I would buy an Alienware of 15 with a HARD drive and a SDS.

Where will be the operating system installed?
Is there a way to specify the drive where I want to install?

If I take a DDI I think it will be useless to have the operating system installed on the slow drive...

Thank you
Luca

I have an AW15 with both an SSD 128 GB (too small!)  and a 1 TB HARD drive.  The operating system is loaded on the SSD, the recovery partition is located on the HARD disk.

  • How can I reinstall a Windows 8 if I buy a laptop MSI with it preinstalled?

I plan to buy MSI CR70 2 M, the model I chose is delivered with preinstalled Win8. As the seller told me, no installation disc comes with the laptop.

I want to be able to reinstall Windows 8 in order to:

    (1) to format the HARD drive, including all the "hidden partition" and whatnot, in order to remove the bloatware manufacturer and make full use of the 500 GB drive that I paid for. I prefer also to partition my disk system disks is apart from all the rest, and all the data user and other things is on another disk, so that it is easier to reinstall System wtihout having back up your documents and other data.

Regions, then I would need to reinstall Windows 8 after that I have format.

    (2) try to install Windows 7 (I own a copy of it) and if I don't like how he behaves or I have driver problems, back to Windows 8. I don't want a dualboot, because if I'm satisfied with the performance of Windows 7 I never want to touch Windows 8 because I don't think it's a good OS for mobile phones or anything really that isn't a touch screen. I have therefore no use for Windows 8 either. But if something does not work, I would go back to Windows 8.

    (3) reinstall Windows when, like for all windows, it ends up by slowing down to a crawl and dies after several software installs and uninstalls and other things that happen to a life above OS. (I'd be happy to make a clean backup and restore to it instead of reinstalling, if the laptop would not come with pre-installed bloatware)

I understand, there may be certain guarantees and other things in place by Microsoft to fight against piracy, but as I see it, I'll buy a BONE, and I want to be able to reinstall the operating system, at least on the computer I bought it comes with.

    Alexey salvation,

I apologize for my late reply and appreciate your research.

There are various options to remove the bloatware that are detailed below.

    Option 1:

You are considering buying a new laptop, I suggest you buy a laptop under DOS and Windows 8.1 media to buy separately. You can install on your own on this laptop and you will get any-bloatware preinstalled by the OEM.

    Option 2:

You can buy a product key for Windows 8.1 and create an installation media for the installation. You must not 'refresh' or 'reset' of the PC. You can delete old partitions and create fresh partitions on the drive that will eliminate all the bloatware.

    Option 3:

'Refresh' or 'Reset' to your PC as indicated in previous answers and uninstall the bloatware manually in the windows programs and features in Control Panel (like almost all things can be uninstalled manually).

According to your needs with a separate retail product license or installation of the retail media version is a better option that won't let you go to your "day 1 computer"(OEM imagé). "»

  • HP ENVY - m7-k211dx: replaced HD with SSD again, impossible to install network drivers

    Hello

HD on HP ENVY m7-k211dx not dead, no recoverable data. Figured why not install an SSD so replaced by a new Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB.

Note: I have built many computers to office since the Pentium 4 days, consider myself as an amateur

Installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bit without any problems (after activating the suport inherited in BIOS)

Downloaded all the drivers from the HP site and copied on DVD

Record fell with drivers on the desktop

installed the chipset driver sp73543.exe, restarted everything is fine

Installed USB driver sp70645.exe, restarted everything is fine

Then tried to install two network drivers downloaded for this laptop specific to HP for LAN and Wireless support Web site:

    RTL8723BE/RTL8188EE Realtek 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Drivers -sp69888.exe

    Realtek LAN (LAN) driver -sp68120.exe

First tried to LAN, Ran exe, checked the license agreements, etc. and it started to install, after a few seconds and error message pops up:

    "FindFile failed.

After the closure of this pop-up a new error message:

"Realtek network controller is not found. If deep sleep Mode is activated Please cable.

Then tried wireless installation, after that starting exe command winow popped up a few seconds showing:

    "Please wait for the installation.

close the window after a few seconds, nothing after that

After trying several times to install drivers with the same exact results I went by the process of reinstalling Windows and go thru the pilot again installation process with the exact same reslts. Downlaoed new drivers with same accurate results

Clues as to what may happen?

Thank you and my apologies for the wall of text

    Hello:

Normally the ethernet driver will install if you do not first install the chipset driver.  Since you've done, it's a good question, why you notification of deep sleep.

Try the driver ethernet directly from Realtek and see if it works... 3rd driver on the list.

    http://www.Realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?langid=1 & PNid = 13 & PFid = 5 & Level = 5 & Conn = 4 & DownTypeID = 3 & getdown = false

Wireless should be easier to correct... parts list indicates that your laptop comes with an Intel 7260 AC wireless network adapter.

I see no W7 wireless or bluetooth drivers listed for this card on the HP website for your laptop, so use the latest Intel.

Wireless: 64-bit is the 2nd file on the left side of the Web page.

I have my old dell n5010 (15R Inspiron) with SSD (Samsung EVO 840 120 G) installed on the main drive Bay and the HDD (Samsung HJJ 500 G) on the optical drive Bay.

It is a typical way to add an SSD on such an old laptop (bought from dell.com.cn in 2011).

My Windows 10 operating system has been installed on the SSD using Samsung Data Migration software, so the previous C drive was pointless. So I formatted and installed an operating system Ubuntu 14.04 on it, hoping the grub OSs double beginning located on the HARD disk.

However, I find no the Dell bios boot option to boot from the HARD drive installed in my optical drive Bay. All the choices are 'Hard Drive', 'Network' and 'Diagnostic '.

But I was definitely sure that my bios program has detected the SSD and HDD with information on the main menu of the bios.

And the LED on the optical drive Bay was immediately once I pressed the Start button on my laptop.

As a general rule, all things were right except for options of the bios boot.

Is there a way I can boot from HDD (with installed Ubuntu) while remaining has my SSD on the main drive Bay? I don't want to swap their positions, because the SSD is super fast on the main drive Bay.

I have alse won't migrate 10 Windows to the HARD drive and reinstall Ubuntu on the SSD, because I'd like my windows be loaded quickly.

  • HP Pavilion laptop 2210sa g6: replace g6 computer 2210sa Pavillion laptop original with SSD hard drive

He currently has a hard drive of 1 TB, I want to replace it with an SSD of 256 GB I don't have a lot of space. This laptop has 10 Windows upgrade and currently active on that. I don't want to clone any data on so I intend to make a gain of 10 DVDs or usb Microsoft Web site installation media. I am told by someone at HP who. This will activate active Windows of the info of the motherboard is NOT disk hard someone else it tells me I have to buy a new copy of details of them, I think that this information is incorrect, please someone could confirm. Also, the procedure with the bios, I know that I have to disable secure boot and enable legacy while booting from the installation media I do need re secure boot activate after or not to worry. I would like to have clarification on this thank you.

Put the 256 GB SSD in your laptop and use the 10 Windows install media. My understanding is that when your equipment has enabled with Windows 10 on an upgrade of active Windows 7 or 8, you can reinstall a clean installation and activation servers will recognize your hardware and activate.

You are not limited to hard drives listed in the service manual. This is what HP sold. Just as you can put any tires on a car, not just those offered Chevrolet.

  • switching with SSD hard drive and install windows 8.1

    Hello

I plan to buy a SSD Samsung 850 pro / evo (if you recommend to stick to a 840 please let me know)

I have an alienware r4 bought in September 2014 I got with a normal 3 TB hard I now want to change just a storage disk and install a SSD drive with windows on it.

I have reinstall windows 8.1 once before because of a problem before so im not new and understand the basic. But when even assume I don't know incase I missed a step, or something that should have been done.

I also understand that the key of windows remains on computers that have a UEFI boot mode. If this correct?

Are there any special steps I need to do to install an SSD

I've also heard when to reinstall windows on your computer, that you need something with you mother of the Council which has not made when I first did a reinstall of windows on my computer. But it's a clean install of windows. I don't know what - this 'clean installing windows"and if it is not necessary to then please let me know.

All I really want to do is to install windows on a card SSD to speed up performance without having to buy a new cd and would like to know if the pilot that were usually recommended for my computer will work as it should be, or do I install something different since im put an ssd card into my bench.

    Thank you

The 850 is a great player, and if he is not a big price difference I recommend plus the 840.  Your plan to start SSD sounds good.  As long as you are using the Dell recovery disk, you won't need another Windows key.

In some cases, you will need to opt for the SATA AHCI mode to do a clean install.  FYI, a clean install is the one who clears all data from the disk of destination.

However, Samsung provides a free clone app (available on their website) that you can use to migrate your current installation to the new drive without all the trouble of a new facility.

  • New laptop comes with Windows 10, want to install Windows 7 in place but freezes everything in

Just got an Acer Aspire ES 15, which came with Windows already installed 10.

I do not like the windows 10, would be nice instead of Windows 7.

I tried to boot from my CD with Windows 7, but once I did the "loading files" bar and I'm on the 'starting Windows' screen, four circles colors that generally revolve around all loading, just freeze and the installation does not go further?

Any help would be appreciated. I tried to boot from a USB, but when I hit F12 I not give me the option to boot from it!

Thanks guys, but I think I have actually solved!

For someone who has similar problems, do pass the boot sequence in the BIOS of UEF1 inheritance. Freeze DVD ROM? When you come to format, we'll tell you that Windows is unable to format one of your readers because they are GPT partition style.

To convert the GPT on the MBR, simply delete all partitions and create a new one. My Windows 7 is currently 17% in installation.

For a long time I didn't do anything this techy on a computer, impressed!

  • 13 Alienware with two 512 SSD's in RAID0 Possible?

I think to buy an Alienware 13, but I have a question I can not anwer myself by using the manual, site etc.

Is it possible to operate the 13 Alienware with two 512 SSD in RAID0 at full speed.

Service Manual, I discovered, there is a drive carrier with two slots/connectors of M2, but it does not say that the two connectors are available at the same time at full speed. (I hope, that he supports full speed like the Alienware M14xR2 no I have where the Bay-DVD works on 3gbs rather 6gbp)
Also, the "SATA Operation" option is available in the BIOS but it only States that:

To configure the mode of operation of the integrated SATA hard drive controller. Default: AHCI

So I'm not sure that it is a 'RAID' option available...

Maybe someone could check its BIOS...

Also, anyone know if there is some new laptops alienware coming this year?

    Thank you...

The two slots m2 work SATA III and at the same time, however; You can't RAID them. 13 does not RAID support.

  • HP laptop laptop 15-s104na: replace the HDD with SSD Crucial

I have a HP/Compaq 15 - s104na with 2213 motherboard and BIOS F.24 with a 500 GB Toshiba HARD drive running Win8.1 (OEM).  Also have an M500 Crucial 240 GB SSD (firmware MU05) that Win7 worked in an old laptop Lenovo.  Thought I would try installing the SSD in laptop computer to speed things up a bit.

However, although I have been able to clone HARD drive SSD (SSD connected via a USB/SATA bridge), when I installed it in the laptop, it didn't start.  The BIOS has been recognizing the Crucial SSD in the Boot Options, but then failed to boot from it returning 0xc0000225 (required is not connected).  Running the Recovery Manager HP of DVD has failed, too, is not surprising that DISKPART > LIST DISK did not show the SSD drive.

Out of curiosity, I then tried a fresh install of the OS of a download of MS 8.1 using a generic key that gave the same result - not found disk.

So, I guess there is something inconsistent between the motherboard for laptop and SSD Crucial.  Runs the compatibility check tool SSD Crucial returns zero compatible solutions, even if I didn't require any special drivers SATA SSD.  Looks like I'll stick with the existing HARD drive (which, to be fair, is not otherwise slow...!)

Update my previous problem of BIOS without recognizing an SSD Crucial of M500.

Person to HP or Crucial has been able to provide a solution, but now, I found a good solution to workaround where I installed the SSD drive in the optical drive Bay, leaving the original HARD disk.  Now the BIOS recognizes the SSD, and I did a clean install of Windows 10 on it as my C drive.  I leave my data on the HARD drive as my D drive.  Fortunately, I don't want an internal optical drive.

So, I now have the benefits of an SSD while also having a lot of data storage space!

Hope this can help others avoid hours of frustration...
