C drive still fragmented

We have a Pentium 4 XP family, the defragmentation program included is Diskeeper Lite.  The computer runs very slowly and when defragment you it takes 2-5 minutes to complete and looking a ton of fragmented files.

We tried "Auslogics Disk Defrag" and the result is the same.  We basucally use the computer for emails with Outlook Express.

You can run defrag every day and it still takes 2-5 minutes to complete with a bunch of fragmented files.

Any suggestions

Thanks Manyt Aqua Info

In a system like Windows XP disk fragmentation is not so much a problem. I found that the native XP Disk Defragmenter program is sufficient.

My lightroom was great before the crash to work and I have a lot of work still pending.

You will need the catalog file and all your images. If you have also stored your images on which crashed HDD you will need to copy them as well.

The default location of the LR catalog file is in your user name folder in the folder on the ROOT of the drive users

  • Increased size of the hard drive but Windows C drive still shows smaller

I am trying to increase the size of the hard drive of my Windows XP virtual machine. I followed the instructions in the help to increase the size (rather than a second hard drive which suggested the FAQ I read later). My MAC finder shows a drop of water in my space of hard drive together, but the Windows C drive still shows the same amount as it had before starting the process. How can I get Windows to recognize the hard drive is bigger than it used to be? Will not install the program I am trying to load because of limited space.

  • HARD drive is fragmented, but 99%...

I was working on the two PCs for the same owner. His office and his laptop HD are the two painted in red of the fragmentation. 99% red using 3 third party programs. The two HD have more than 50% free space and he always turns off the correctly.  He did a diskdefrag and it came out to be almost perfect. He said she always does, and in about a week, it's 99% fragmented again.

Both devices are Dell and have all two Windows XP Home Edition. For only the laptop recovery disk. The other is long gone.

Is there some sort of virus that simulates the fragmentation? I am at a lost as to the cause and I'm a little afraid to spoil his PC while trying to solve this problem.

I don't have the PC in my possession at this time. I'm trying to get an idea as to the cause and correct before I try anything.

Purpose, some programs are in use when you defrag, so you're going to

in this regard, the wrong way, if you want to defragment other folders...

To do this, go to start, type: CLEANMGR /SAGESET

Once his back thru, click Run, type: cmd cmd, type: Defrag C:

    Once her thru, type: EXIT

R.Click my computer, properties, advanced, virtual memory, change the button, highlite

C: drive, set to "no file", click on set 2 X, close, restart the pc.

Back to xp, reopen cmd, type: Defrag C:, this can take 3 to 5 minutes, once its thru,.

type: System OUTPUT Reopen properties, swap file, C: set to "let the system manage", click

2 X game, closing, suitable to all, restart the pc. This process works best with another hd with

  • Disconnected (removed) external hard drive still exploring and using drive letter - how to remove?

    Dear community,

I recently removed an external hard drive of my computer laptop windows 7, I guess it was not not ready to 'remove Saveli' it at that time. The hard drive itself is fine, but the icon remained in windows Explorer because it is disconnected. I manually assigned the drive letter Q on the drive before, and it always appears like that, since this disconnect. When I click on it, there is of course a mistake ("Q is not accessible. "Access denied"). When I plug the hard drive it is listed in another letter (E), the 'Phantom' to Q drive is not affected by it at all.
It (the ghost drive) does not appear in the computer/disk management manager and I can also not reassign the letter Q on the original hard drive (or any other - is not in the list!).
I would use the letter Q again to the hard drive (my paths and associations of are consistent) and want to get rid of the ghost car. Any ideas how?
    Thanks in advance,
    Philipp

    FYI
It's great that the problem corrected itself, but for general reference or other who can run in the ii, how to fix a ' stuck or ghost hand "is to remove its entry in the registry key below and then open a new market or restart.  This problem is relatively rare, but sometimes and still does not resolve itself.
(Note this drive letter Q is used by Office, click Run and sometimes mysteriously appears for this reason, unlike your situation.)

  • In Windows 7 Professional is it is possible to restrict access to the C: drive still be able to write to it?

I've seen several threads on hide the C: drive to restrict the overall use of the C: drive, but I'm on a mission to survey about whether you can limit the C: drive but still be able to write files to it.  We currently do not allow any executable to be run from a USB key and so sometimes users are required to move the file to the C: drive and run. We currently need to who have implemented, but not not allow the user create a folder and download or save files on the C: drive. My original logic in this is not that because you'd have to restrict by file type, but I could be wrong and would like the entry to a person with a thorough knowledge of Windows 7 that may be able to tell me if this is actually possible. It is very easy to do with Citrix, but I'm trying to understand if this is achievable on a local machine toed. Is it possible to allow only .exe files to write in c driver: on a per user basis? Thank you for your time.

I seriously doubt you can do it, but the best is to ask this question on Technet or MSDN

This issue is beyond the scope of this site (for consumers) and to be sure, you get the best (and fastest) reply, we have to ask either on Technet (for IT Pro) or MSDN (for developers)

Try signing out of iCloud, perform a restart forced and then signing to iCloud.

Force restart: hold the home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously for about 15-20 seconds , until the Apple logo appears.

  • updated the cpu but old processor device driver still shows

I have a pc HP Pavilion P6120T brand new. It came with a dual core cpu E5200.

Currently, I ordered an Intell E6300 cpu for a Dell computer, but, discovered that it does not work in this computer, so I replaced the cpu of my new HP with her.

Yes, it works very well but... The device driver indicates the old rather than the new processor E6300 e5200 processor.

The bios boot and the screen show the most recent E6300 as the fact no matter what test I performed on the computer.

I'm afraid to uninstall the processor in Device Manager.

Advice what to do? Something or nothing?

Mrjstak, I would like to clear the CMOS (prn. see moss).  It is the chip that contains the BIOS settings.  In some cases, it will continue to display the old information until it has been removed.  Here is a link that tells you how to do it:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01746799

Scroll to the bottom of the page.  You will find a section called "clearing CMOS settings.

Warning: Don't change any rider when the computer is turned on. May damage the motherboard.

  • Old computer is dead, HARD drive still alive. Can I install windows 7 on your new computer without formatting the old HARD drive?

My old desktop computer recently died of a motherboard failure.  As I understand it, I should be able to install windows 7 from my old computer to the new, but only if I delete the old installation.

Does this mean that I have to format the old HARD drive?  Because the old computer HARD drive seems to be alive, I would retrieve the data on a new machine first, before I have to format and I need to install windows on the new computer to get the data from the old HARD drive.

No, it is taken on trust that the old installation is no longer active, there is no mechanism to remove the old license in order to make a valid new. Remove the Windows directory (or rename) makes the old system inoperative.

You find that the automatic authentication fails on new construction and need to call the licensing Center to check that you have only one installation. Apart from the OEM rules if a license has been activated too often, and recently, it fails in a 1 time.

    Hello

Well, it is possible to distance it's the brand of double layer discs
you use (assuming that the drive can read discs double layers).
Or the drive has a hardware problem.

    I hope this helps.
