C0000218 failure of a file record

Here is the message I keep getting. I'm trying to fix my dad's computer and have had no luck. I tried to use the restore disk, and the computer does not start. I tried using F8 and it will not draw the menu, so I can restore last known good configuration. I'm really confused at this point. If someone could help me I would be very happy! I'm not a computer genius, so please be patient. Thank you very much. The operating system is Vista Basic and I think it's 2 GB memory...? Dell Inspiron 1525. Sorry I don't have a lot of details... but I don't know a lot about computers.

c0000218 Registry file failure
Registry cannot load the hive (file)
SystemRoot System 32 config system or its log or alternation
corrupt absent not writable

Hello travislwilburn,

Thank you for visiting the website of Microsoft Windows Vista Community.

Try following the steps in this article:

This is one of the main reasons that I prefer to do a clean install from CD, rather than just do a system restore. There is less chance that something can go wrong with a clean install. Unfortunately, many computer manufacturers no longer provide a complete CD, but you can always be able to completely erase your disk rather than using the restore option. Stop: c0000218 error is usually associated with one of several things, depending on how far through the recovery process, as you did before you encounter the error.

The first possibility is simply the corruption in the Windows registry. A second option is a component of your hardware is not compatible with Windows XP or your hard drive has some kind of issue. Because you re - install Windows XP by using the system restore, it seems unlikely that the system hardware is not compatible, even if I will not rule out the possibility altogether. The third possibility, a hard drive damaged, is possible, even if the windows appeared to run smoothly before your relocation. Before you throw in the towel, we'll take look at nearly every opportunity

Assuming that the Windows registry is simply corrupted, the first thing to try is a recovery via the automated recovery system for your particular installation. As you try to do a system restore, it is possible for you already tried this and had it fail. If this isn't the case, follow the detailed instructions in the Microsoft article 307545 Knowledge Base.

If you tried your system restore using the provided OEM or CD restore partition and received this error, make sure that you do not have the connected hardware components that were not part of the initial version on your computer. System restore disks look for specific hardware components. Is he missing the original components it sometimes introduces errors in the process of restoration.

A third possibility is that the hard drive is damaged in any way. Many disks have bad sectors and you will not know about them until you try to write on the sectors in a specific operation. If you can boot from your installation CD, you will be presented with the option to repair or recover the Windows XP installation. By pressing R lance the Microsoft Recovery Console which then asks the administrator password. After entering the password, run the chkdsk command to check the disk for errors by typing chkdsk/r to the command line. If chkdsk finds errors, you may need to use chkdsk /f to fix the errors before continuing.

As you attempt to restore your Windows installation, return to the base line, the best solution is to make a completely new install because it will prevent any potential corruption that already exist in your current installation by installing a new copy of Windows instead of reusing existing kernel components that can now be altered.

This should solve your problem.

Let us know if these steps solve your problem.  I hope the information is useful.

Kind regards

  • How can I determine what files given File Record Segments Point to?

I'm under NTFS, and I have a volume of 2 TB with a lot of files that it contains.  Fortunately, I cloned the entire volume to another volume of 2 TB on occasion (using WinDD, basically an exact bit-by-bit image of the entire 2 TB).  Unfortunately, the volume, I used to work failed, and my last clone was old enough.  To remedy this, I switched to Linux and ddrescue to get as many recovered defective disc I have.  When I finally gave up the recovery (after weeks, but it seemed that it would take years to get a lot more value), I stayed with 1.3MiB evil space in two or three sections of the volume, especially in the 1kiB sections (generally there was 2 bad sectors, followed by a number of sectors well followed by 2 more bad sectors etc.).  The volume had clusters of 64 Kio, which left still potentially a lot of corruption.  After all this, I took the volume newly cloned (from bad disk) back to windows and ran chkdsk.  He finds 1 segment of corrupted file, 336 segments of the orphan file and 440 bad index entries.  So he deleted all those (which included about 6 files that moved to the chkdsk finds the file, the rest was individual files which are now gone).  I do not know what files have disappeared, but I know that most of the lost files are probably on my good old clone of the volume.  Comparing volumes per-folder basis, would be a nightmare, and I suppose cannot easily use a tool (or find a free) because of the number of changes that have not been saved.  I have the registered chkdsk log so I can sort through this.  Can someone tell me a good way to know what files the segments to record file deleted perpendicularly on the volume where they have not been removed?  For example, here are two chkdsk log records:

Delete a corrupt file record segment 1107859.

Delete a 1069930 an orphan file record segment.

Since I know specifically what segment to save file, I need to look on the good clone, can I somehow extract file information about the MFT file segment numbers?

Notice that I must not use XP to do, which is be where the volume has been created and repaired.

Well, I finally had the chance to try some Linux ntfs-based utilities.  I'm not sure they are NTFS - 3g, important or ntfsutils, but all those who have a favorite linux distribution should be able to fire and get the information I needed easily.  The numbers are numbers of inodes, and two orders were very useful.  It has provided what I need:

    ntfscluster - I

It included the full path to the file in question and very little information.  This command has provided a lot of information that I didn't need:

    NTFSInfo-i

He did not provide the path, but provide the number of inode in the directory parent, so you can reverse engineer the path using this command again and again.

I got the error message, shortly after I upgraded to service pack 2 windows xp with service pack 3.  When I try to start in safe mode or in an earlier era, the computer stops at the 32\drivers\mup.sys system.  Then it goes to the blue screen which gives me the error message of failure of a registry file and begins to clear the physical memory on the disk.

    Hello

In your case I'd take a Win XP disk and would try to reinstall the system.
Still is it that you are not able to boot into normal mode and safe mode so I put t see another solution for you.
Of course, the blue screen of death could be related to a hardware problem (HARD drive problem) and in this case the installation of the system not fix your problem. Then this would require the new survey

    Hi George,.

I did a brief search on that, and reached a post in these forums of Linc Davis, suggesting a restart of the computer could heal the situation. Certainly worth a try.

Either way, the message you read indicates these items are not files. they are aliases (pointers) to the actual file. By double-clicking an alias will open the file it is pointed. The message "Can't find" sense - the file is not found because you deleted.

  • series E200 / burn files recorded on a sound cd play on any cd player

I need to know how to take my Sansa (off FM) recorded files and burn them to a cd.

I need 2 instructions, one for Windows xp and Vista.

(I have Vista but I bought a Sansa for a gift and they ask me how to do this and they are running windows xp).

I especially had problems burning CDs on this new computer with Vista.

    Help, please!

    Tawrena

I have no idea how to do it with Vista. XP is pretty easy, although the details will depend on what program allows you to burn CDs.

You say you're a beginner, so I'll take it in small steps.

    1. use the supplied cable to connect the Sansa to a USB port on your computer.

    2. go into 'My computer' (it will be in the "Start" menu or on your desktop) and locate the Sansa. Double-click it to open it.

    3. double-click on "internal memory".

    4. double-click on 'music '. This will show all the music files you have stored on the Sansa.

At this point, you can choose to burn directly from the Sansa or to create a separate folder containing everything you want to burn. The burner will have ways that you use to specify what files you want to burn. You can tell them right out of the 'Music' on the Sansa file or a separate folder (which I recommend)

    5. to do this, right-click on the desktop (and hold down) and slide on 'new '. The menu dialog box drag on 'File' and release the mouse button. You will see a new folder on the desktop icon and it will be called "New folder" (of all things!). Double click on it.

    6. you have now two open folders - folder 'Music' of the Sansa and the "new folder" (which will be empty).

Find a space on the blue bar at the bottom of the screen where there is no icon or click here, right and rectangular 'button '. Drag "Vertical mosaic Windows" and release the mouse button.

7 left click on one of the files in the folder "Music" you want burned and, while holding down the mouse button, drag on the "new folder" and release the mouse button. The file will be copied into the "new folder".

    8. Repeat this until the "new folder" contains all the files you want to put it on CD.

In fact, there is a shortcut, you can use here. Left click one of the files you want in the 'Music' folder and then hold the 'Ctrl' key pressed on the keyboard while you click on others. You can select multiple files in this way.

After that that they are all out highlighted, CTRL key and left click one of the highlighted files once and hold down the left button of the mouse down by dragging the entire cluster highlighted on toward the "new folder".

9 point your program CD burner to the new folder and specify that you want to burn all of the files it contains. The burner program must have some kind of gauge that tells you how completely files you chose will make the record. If you selected that too, you may need to remove some before you can proceed with the burning.

    =====================================
1.46 MB isn't a very large file... I think the Comcast

  • Miss me about 15 of my creative cloud file records

They are just GONE - and has a record that still has a "!" on each subfolder and file so that they are not properly synchronize. WHERE ARE THEY? I really need access to these files via my finder and not via the Web site. Help, please. I tried turning deactivation/activation of the synchronization, but nothing changes!

    Erin is perhaps the question-

With the recent update of the application of Creative Cloud Desktop (1.9.1.474), we have unfortunately introduced a bug that causes the creation of a new Creative Cloud Files folder and re-synchronization of all content. This will happen only the first time that the synchronization application runs after the update. This caused an understandable pain and confusion, for which we really apologize.

Creative application Cloud Files contains a logic that supports the use of several Adobe ID. This allows to disconnect from an ID and in, but keeps the contents of your separate creative cloud. When you sign out and change identifiers, the app moves the previous creative Cloud Files folder and it's content and he adds with the already signed in ID (User@AdobeID). Then, it creates a main folder and begins to synchronize the content of the identification of new.

The bug I mentioned earlier occurs, as the app believes an ID selector took place and as such, moves the current record of Creative Cloud Files and attempts to annex the already signed in ID. As no switch actually took place, it manifests as (unknown).  The application then creates a main folder to synchronize the data.

What you end up with is essentially a creative Cloud Files folder with your new synchronized data and a creative Cloud Files (unknown) folder that contains duplicate data.

This happens once, after the last update.

The solution is to simply delete the (unknown) Creative Cloud Files folder.

I recommend that ensure you that you have no pending change you can do offline and you check the contents of the folder new, main designer Cloud Files contains everything you expect of him.  If this is not the case, check the contents of the creative Cloud files (unknown).

If there is still an incompatibility with your data, you can check on creative.adobe.com to confirm that your data is there.
