Caching memory question

Seems that almost half of the 2 GB in the system is cached. Don't know where to look to find out what is happening and how to stop it.

Hello

Vista and Windows 7 use entirely different memory of the XP and earlier versions of Windows as they
before cache to improve performance. If programs are in need of more memory then Windows will publish some
the cache as needed.

This method allows memory to do extra work, after all the memory that is 'free' does not do
something useful.

In Manager tasks note on Total - cached - free

CTRL SHIFT ESC or right click on taskbar - task-> Performance tab Manager

and at the bottom, note the % of physical memory

Start - type in the search box-> find information system at top - double click it.

I hope this helps.

Rob - bicycle - Mark Twain said it is good.

Silly question maybe, but... when I open an audio file (such as a song or a clip radio or something similar) online to listen to it, but I didn't save it on my BB, I used no memory just by doing this? Does this question make sense?

When you open the file attachment, it goes into the "attachment data" database and cannot be removed unless you remove the message that contains the attachment.

When you open the file from the browser, just in the browser's cache until it is cleared

  • Are there ways to increase the use of Win 7 RAM paging/caching memory?

I have an Intel I5 Ivy Bridge CPU, Win 7 64 bits Home Premium OS, 16 GB of RAM and GPU Nvidia GTX 550 it to 1 GB DDR5 memory.  I run two programs in real-time mapping/trading stocks on two monitors.

My goals are to improve the time to re - draw screen and reduce the Windows hard disk access.  Although there are alternatives to consider, I would like to invite the community to thoughts on two issues:
    1. how to increase the use of the RAM to the paging/caching window: tools of the surveillance system show that the use of the RAM is about 30% of the installed 16 GB all cached Windows hard disk is constantly busy.   If there is a tweak to increase the use of the RAM, I could develop memory 32 GB RAM.
    2. otherwise, I could install a 120 GB Solid State Drive.  Then, the question is whether you use the SSD for the OS or as according to Intel Rapid Storage disk cache would give the best solution for the above stated objectives?

My understanding is that the software is responsible for the amount of RAM is used.
You can't allocate X amount of RAM for a specific task.
If your software is needed, or could use more RAM than what he's using it now would use it.

A lot of software still uses the swap file, so do not neglect one
on your C:\ drive. The HARD drive is still accessible, but more effectively through the PF.
The PF on an SSD would be slightly faster than a HARD disk. Very slightly.
SuperFetch must be on a HARD drive.
I haven't studied Intel Rapid Storage, but a SSD is a beautiful home for the OS.
I do not think that it would help speed up the re - draw them well.

    Out of specific issues.
If there is a link with the speed of re - drawing and graphics-
If you can run two windows on one monitor and to redraw faster than with two
It may be due to two monitors that requires more bandwidth bandwidth memory (VRAM).
If you find that's the case then maybe an ATI card with a 256 bit memory bus draws
a little quicker on two screens as the 550 with it's bus 192-bit memory.

Depending on your software, you can find that a machine i7 with hyper-threading technology is more
suitable for your task, but only if the software can make use.

Of course you would also want a good internet speed if the information is continuously
Download. Cannot re - draw the data that are not have happened.

Forums of your software can be a good place to learn as well.

  • Tecra A3 - 106 Intel Graphics memory Question (915GM)

Hello, no doubt this will be a strange question, but please accept my apologies, I can't understand it well...

I have a Toshiba Tecra A3 106 with 915GME 128 MB Intel graphics card... He used to appear as a memory of 128 MB on my system, and somehow, it is now limited to 64 MB probably after update my drivers or a change to the settings of this unit, somewhere...

I recently updated my bios to v.2.50, could this be the reason? or the most recent driver for the game? (I am currently on 6.14.10.4543)

I know that I must be blind I can't find the setting for this... But I need your help...

    Thanks in advance...
    Onur.

EDIT: I realized that it is a thing of BIOS 90%... Phoenix BIOS 2.50 does NOT contain an option to change the graphic committed memory size of 64 MB to 128 or vice versa... My previous BIOS was this option in the tab "Advanced"... And... I can't downgrade to the previous version as installer does not support the downgrade... PS: I checked the Windows settings this topic... Not found no apparent solution...

    Edit2: Found this link about the question on the Toshiba site: http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1079 556xml & sliceId = & dialogid = 1150837 & stateId = 0% 200% 201 152026

Obviously, this is a bug in the BIOS and the source suggests that v1.70 and newer versions are fixed... I REALLY DON'T THINK!

ANY IDEAS TO GET AROUND THIS?

    Hello Onur

The link you posted from TOSHIBA U.S. page and I assume that you have a European model of laptop. If you want to update BIOS please use Toshiba European page. The United States from Toshiba is like another firma and it isn't really the same thing.

If models of laptop computers in the United States some problem it doesn? t means that all Toshiba laptops have the same problem.

I checked that your model of laptop shared graphics memory card. I guess you know what that means and the fact is that units with Intel graphics card have no parameters where user can manually set the amount of memory must be used. On ATI graphics cards settings it is possible. I checked a few notebooks similar and in the Phoenix BIOS I didn? t find anything. Because of this, I'm really confused when you mean that this option was available on the ADVANCED tab.

I really hope that someone who have the same unit as you can give us a good info about it.

    Good luck!

  • OptiPlex 7010 memory question

I just bought an Optiplex 7010 of Dell Outlet and have a question.  Technical guide to the 7010 says that each of the four DIMM slots can handle up to 8GB memory modules, but said while the system maximum is only 16 GB.  I know you must have Windows 7 Professional or ultimate edition to access more than 16 GB. If you have that, this motherboard supports more than 16 GB?  If I added two 8 GB sticks to the already installed 2x4gb, it would work, or would the machine does not work or recognize only 16 GB of it?

Well, I've just answered my own question.  I bought 2 sticks 8 GB of RAM Kingston meant for the 7010, sold by a number of places, including Dell and added to my system.  It works very well, and the BIOS and Windows displays 24 GB installed.  I have no doubt 32GB should be fine, too.

A critical caveat, however.  You must use Windows 7 Professional or ultimate edition to do this.  If your operating system is Windows 7 Premium, only 16 GB of RAM will be recognized.

Reference Dell must correct its erroneous documentation.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Blackberry 8130 memory questions

I do not understand why my phone loses so much if I'm recently wiped because of it, then reloaded my contacts and define the basic settings, after all this, about 24,000,000 bytes of memory are free, last night I checked and found the amount of free to be about 16 000 000 files, and then again later After doing very little with the phone, to 15,000, 000, so I cleared my browser cache and doing a little more memory cleaning things... and it is 14,000,000 where he is now based.

I fought with the memory since I phone, after realizing the issue, I went out and bought a memory card of 4 GB, plenty of space! I fly over att my media files and that solved it... so far. I don't know what causes this problem. Before erasing I was working with 0 bytes free, and I have nothing it would free upward

    What should I do?

    Hello

You should not. You should resume and make sure you get a NEW phone, not a refurbished.

Why pay for a device that is defective. Even if you reload the software, there could be a material

a problem that is not repairable.

    Your thoughts?

  • SGA and OS memory Question

    Hello

Solaris box 16G memory, is it OK to assign 14 GB of memory for data bases and to 2 GB for the operating system. Basically, my question is does oracle use only the SGA memory or should he memory of BONE on top of SGA...?

    OS = Solaris 10

    DB = 10g

In this case, if there is more number of created, Oracle server process they will starve for memory and will get finally in Exchange. Swap is disc, so it will slow down operations.

Think about other processes as expdp/impdp or other processed utility triggered by your backup/restore operations. They'll be dead slow.

    Hi team,

    You must:

    1. decide what data/tables you want to cache in the IMDB Cache and what type of caching you want to use (read ONLY, direct writing, etc.).

2 create IMDB Cache cache need groups and, as appropriate, to preload data Oracle DB (LOAD CACHE GROUP etc.)

3 point WLS datasource to FAS TimesTen and/or appropriate DB Oracle based on the data, the application needs to access.

    4. ensure that the application works fine with TimesTen hiding in terms of consistency of application, transactional consistency etc. (since you have now two separate data being synchronized by the mechanisms of cache TimesTen databases).

  • Compression memory question

    Hello

I wonder how the new feature of vSphere 4.1 "memory compression.

I understand that this is the third (after 'the transparent memory page sharing' and 'hot air balloon') option when on memory allocation.

Balloon flight memory can take 0-75% (65% by default) of a unreserverd of VMs memory which means this memory compression will give out the rest of the VMs without reserve (default 35%) memory.

How the ESXi/ESX Server determine what memory and the amount of memory it can compress before using the last resort, exchange the disk?

Compressed memory is put in the area of maximum compression cache, but where is this located cache size, it is a part of the area of memory used by VMkernel to manage the virtual computer?

  • How many times should I empty the cache memory?

I had problems with various Web sites and on other users advice made a full cache clear. I noticed an immediate improvement in the speed of loading pages. Do you have this help and if yes how often should I clean the cache? It is 420MB.

    Thank you

I don't see how that can possibly be associated with the cache. The cache contains files from Web sites, such as images, scripts and style sheets. So when you visit a page you have already visited, you do not need to download everything again. The cache allows the pages to load faster, not slower.

The cache is a fixed size, as well as the files are automatically deleted as new ones are cached. Unless you have to have some sort of issue as Web sites to research wrong, there is no need to delete it manually.

Will HP P/N 404574-888 1 GB memory in my Compaq DC5750 series desktop PC?  I know that the PC has 4 memory slots and I think that the memory must be installed in sets of two.  I have 2 GB total now with maps two memory supplied with the PC and there are two empty slots.  I was hoping to put in two additional 1 GB memory cards each to spend a total of 4GBs of memory.  Running Windows 7, I think that I have a memory bottleneck in the performance of the PC.  When I go to the Task Manager, my memory is already 87% used after a fresh reboot.  I appreciate comments.  Thank you

  • Portege R700 - upgrade Windows 7 32-bit to 64-bit and memory question

I recently bought Portge R700 and am disappointed by the memory. I have a license of Windows 7 64-bit edition: what problems can arise if I update? Once installed, I can then use 8 MB of RAM.

Moreover, I found the reagrding misleading Web site the option of using the 8 MB of RAM with the32-bit OS. I have 4Mb installed, years to see that only 2.86 MB is usable.

I get "out of memory" messages and would like to know how to allocate more memory to live for video.

Tom's right. If you want to use the 64-bit operating system, you must do clean install operating system. All drivers and tools specific to Toshiba and utilities must be installed Additionally one by one.
If you need assistance with installing Win7 let us know.

I put t know for what purposes do you use your laptop and what applications are important for your daily work, but, in general, I don t think you will have problems using 64 bit OS. Please keep in mind that all additional software is 64-bit capable and everything will be OK.

As far as I know laptop user doesn't have the influence of the use of video memory and it runs automatically. It is unclear to me that you can change these settings and set how much RAM can be used for video operations.

Anyway, Portege R700 is nice for laptop with sufficient power for daily use and also for use with standard applications. I don t think you ve bought this laptop for games.
