  I just configured my router netgear dg834 g v4 on my laptop and was instructed to do this via a wired connection, as said on the installation.

  I now cannot turn on the wireless and I would so I don't have to use an ethernet cable.

  What drivers did you use? The ICH8M or ICH7M? 32-bit or 64-bit? Would be really interesting since your machine must have an ICH8M chipset for hard drive.

  If you have installed the new OS and recovered the notebooks with Toshiba Recovery CD then you shouldn't have any virus or malware on the HARD drive.
  Usually, the HARD disk will be formatted using the recovery CD and delete all the files (data and virus).
  I recommend that you format the whole HARD drive and delete all partitions. Then retrieve the laptop using the Toshiba CD and reinstall the OS.
  Finally, you must get rid of all malicious software and viruses.

  If the laptop is running slowly and unstable after this procedure, then I don't think that any virus could cause such problems.
