Can I recover files after a permanent removal?

QUESTION: I need to recover my Rhapsody music library that seems to be permanently deleted.

PROBLEM: The user ignorance/stupidity. I tried to make room on my hard drive and I seemed to have 2 copies of Rhapsody. Oops.  I believe it should be possible to recover at least some of these music files (.mp3).

The more you use your computer, more risk overwriting the deleted material and the lower the risk of recovery.

Recuva is a good free application. You can also try free Data Recovery Wizard from Easeus.

R-Studio and Get Data Back are not free, but I think you can download a free trial version which will allow you to see if he can recover your data.

If none of these options can recover your data, you must decide how much your lost data is worth...  Drive savers data recovery costs $ 500 and upwards... top.

"Deleting" a file does not actually delete it marks just the space
also available to be used. There are third-party programs that can
sometimes recover deleted files. The problem is that the space used by
the file is likely to be replaced very quickly, and it makes
    the unrecoverable file.

So your chances of successfully recover this file are decent if you
Try it again immediately after the deletion of it and go quickly
downhill from there if you write other files on the device.

But if the file is large enough, it's still worth a try. Stop
written on the memory stick immediately, if you did not
already. Download an undelete program (and here's one:)

Programs should always be reinstalled after a restore to the factory settings.

If you have an installation clean back to factory settings, you normally wiped your hard drive clean during the process.

    You can try this program:

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/Recuva.html

Recuva is a file undeletion tool that allows you to analyze your hard drives or media cards for files that have been deleted or formatted. It presents you a list of files that have been found, as well as an assessment of their potential for recovery, a preview option, and a hex viewer to inspect the content. You can limit your search to files of a certain type (e.g. images, audio etc.) and choose between a quick and a thorough analysis approach. The program also includes a secure deletion option that allows you to permanently delete files that were found while parsing, to avoid any future recoveries.

  • Can I recover bookmarks after uninstalling firefox and data of a personal nature?

Someone in my household uninstalled firefox and personal data. This means that years of hard work, recording and filing of bookmarks disappeared. Is it possible to recover this data?

Really, this file has been deleted (without going through the trash). Unless you have created a backup on the local media or in the cloud, your best hope is to use software that Combs your hard drive for the fragments of files 'restore' them.

    For example: http://www.piriform.com/recuva

This should be done immediately, this space will be replaced gradually, corrupting the recovered files.

When you find the list of recovered files, look for those whose name begins with "bookmarks".

  • How can I recover encrypted after reinstalling Windows jpg files?

    ENCRYPTED JPG FILES

I recently had a major BONE down and since my laptop running XP Pro) was bought four years ago in a former

employer, that he hasn't had the recovery discs, I had a techie load discs of my daughter in my laptop. This of course

led to my loss of all files. I had the backup files to a hard drive stand alone. I had about 6 GB of photos, mostly from the jpg

which approximately 1/3 have been encrypted. I don't understand why, because all the photos have been scanned or copied on the

same laptop running XP Pro. I've never knowingly encrypted files. Is it possible I can get these encrypted

files? I don't have the certificate number of the previous operating system. Still, I don't understand why some files would be

encrypted while others were not using the same Windows XP Pro operating system. Can you help me? In the opposite case

I'll have to rescan hundres of photographs. Thank you.

Yes, the repair shop know what they were doing, but the fact that you gave them a Dell reinstallation CD, as well as the fact that you got the computer back without your files, suggests that what the store did was a "clean install".

The facts that the files appear in green and the encryption checkbox checked are bad for you.  Both indicate that the files are encrypted in fact using the Windows Encrypting File System (EFS).

I've never heard of files becomes encrypted without any action of the user, but how the files got encrypted are now irrelevant.

As far as I KNOW, your only hope is to download the demo version of Elcomsoft application linked in my previous post and see if we can find any trace of the hard disk encryption key which is not crushed by the relocation.  I don't know, but I suspect that the free trial will tell you if it can or cannot decrypt your files... but they will decrypt only really if you pay for it.

ElcomSoft claims success in situations like yours.  The less you use the computer before you run the data recovery software, the better your chances of recovery.  I think you have to go with the more expensive "professional" version.

  • Problem of recovering files after completing the reduced image of the system

I wanted a quick and easy way to remove bloatware on my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop and I recently found the option to minimize the system image.  During execution of the task, I was given the option to first back all my files and I thought it was excellent.  After waiting 2 hours for her to create the backup, he created a 67.5 GB file on my backup drive and then proceeds to reduce to a minimum the system image.  While he was complete my phone restarted and went through all the steps of setting up for first use.  When everything was done, I plugged my backup disk and navigated to the folder of recovery of file titled "Backup_2011-10-28 125331.  In the file was a file "Recovery.exe" so I guess that I just had to run the file and everything would be restored.  However, he did create a file on the C: drive in the "System Recovery Files" which basically looks like a simple list of files.  The file that was done was only 12 GB, which makes no sense given that the backup folder initial took 67.5 GB on my backup drive.

I assumed that this recovery file would simply perform a system recovery, restore all files created by the user where they were originally and basically to restore my system to how it was before reducing the image of the system, except of course for the fact that the image of the system would be less.  I was wrong to assume that or am I not successfully restore my system?  When enter windows and attempt to restore the backup created by some HP program that did it, the file is not even given as a possible source of save.  How can I get my computer to where it was before the restoration?  I had more than 100 GB of music, games and programs out there that are now lost and trying to remember what I lost everything will be very tedious, not to mention how long to actually get all the files.  Can someone help me with this? Thanks in advance!

OK, what I learned hae is the backup created during the copy just for the recovery of all the files in the format of the image (management of stormwater in case you), the restore.exe was never to return to the original lcations since maybe it's different, so there just pictures of stormwater management to normal files and dumps then converts into a folder to restore you It is up to you to sort through them and put them in the appropriate places, stupid I agree, but that's the way it was designed.

Back to your problem, I would like to rename this "System Recovery Files" System Recovery Files 2 folder, then try the recovery.exe once again, see if there is no option during recovery, make sure you select all files if given a chance, see if it produces more files than he did the first time.

If this does not work there is a way to convert all the files management of stormwater to 1 wim file and then mount the wim file in explorer to copy the files you need from the image, it's very complicated process which I've never tried it myself.

First of all, check your trash... perhaps that the folder is there.

There are programs of software designed to recover the
delete files... some detail and some are free.

The following freeware is an example and you can
find others with a Google search.

For hard drive recovery, it would be preferable to
Use the portable version and run it from external
source such as a memory card or a USB flash drive to reduce
the possibility of replacing the deleted files.

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
