Can I remove install.wim or c:\windows\installer?
I bought a new Dell Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and I have the Windows 7 installation disc. I've implemented the system with all my files from the user to the old system and and saved with Acronis.
Audit of the use of space is a 3.3 GB install.wim in the c:\Apps\osmedia\sources directory. The directory or this file can be deleted? After a search, this seems to be essentially the installation disc.
There is also a directory containing 3.4 GB called c:\Windows\Installer. Can it be deleted? After a search I think I can't
TIA
Did you by chance look in "uninstall a program" and see if you have a program called by chance "A Media Source"?
This program contains probably the applications or something in that sense that the manufacturer has installed on the computer.
You the best solution to remove unwanted software on a computer is through the method "uninstall a program". Just delete the files and folders can cause serious complications on the road.

Please, do not post your product key. That said to check the owner's manual, as your computer probably includes a "recovery partition", which you access and use to restore XP provided the factory by pressing one of the keys to fuction (F key) keyboard when you first turn on the computer.
Try the following to get started:
(1) backup important data files. Be prepared to re - install your applications.
(2) restart the computer, when the press of the dell logo displays the computer screen and hold down "ctrl" and press "F11".

How can I remove an earlier version of windows after installing Windows 7?
I had Vista installed when I bought the computer, but when I installed my free copy of Windows 7 upgrade it have not migrated user to the new operating system files, and the old files are still there. How can I remove the old files without damaging the currently installed version? Is there a place I can have the whole system analyzed to see which files should be deleted and those who must be kept?
The Windows.old folder has two objectives:
(1) can be used to uninstall Windows 7 and return your PC to the previous version of Windows.
(2) contains a backup of all your files of data, documents, photos, Etc. from the previous version of Windows. If you don't need either of these two options can delete the Windows.old folder.
Note: Option to change Windows Explorer to see the Windows.old folder:
Click on start and enter in the box "Search": "hidden" (without the quotes)
Click on the "Show the hidden files and folders" option at the top of the list.
In the "Folder Options" window
Click the 'view' if it is not already selected.
In the list "Advanced settings" locate "hidden files and folders".
Now click 'show files and folders '.
Then, disable the following:
"Hide empty drives in the computer folder.
"Hide the extensions of the file types that you want to know."
"Hide protected operating system files"Click on the "Apply" button and the OK"" button.

In my control panel, I have about 50 updates to security of Windows Internet Explorer 7 and Windows XP. Keep Microsoft sending me error messages saying that I need to delete some of my programs in my control panel, so my System Restore so that they are able to track or undo harmful replaces my e asking me to free more disk space by removing programs that I don't use. Can I delete some old updates of security out of my control panel?
Hi RamonaBrooks,
No, you should not remove installed Windows updates as they are supposed to be there on the computer. In this case, you get low disk space messages, try the following.
Method 1: Run this utility of automated troubleshooting and see if it helps.
Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks
Method 2: Run Disk Cleanup to free up space.

According to the warning given by HP Support assistant, I have prepared three DVDs with HP Support Assistant sussessfully recovery. On my recovery disk D:\ there is a preload folder that contains a file named base.wim (size 10 GB). If this folder contains the system image, delete this folder now? By this action I can get 10 GB more space on my PC. Please somebody guide me regarding the issue above.
Hello
As you created your set of recovery disks - (these will be no only reinstall the OS, but recreate the recovery Partition as well)-you can completely remove the recovery Partition. If you open the folder Recovery Manager (in all programs) there is usually the opportunity to do, or you can also use Windows disk management.
Kind regards

Is the file install.wim same in windows vista, 7 and 8 64-bit?
I am trying to reinstall windows 7, but the disc is scratched and so he worked not by ordinary means, so I was going to try to use my USB, but it is not copying the install.wim file on. What should I do? Is it possible to download?
Go to this link and download the ISO for your version of Windows 7. Then burn it to a DVD and use your license key.

I seriously doubt if the Install.wim files are the same on all versions you have listed.
Good luck.

Windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode or if windows Installer is not installed properly. Contact your support team.
Troubleshoot Windows install
2438651 how to solve problems that may occur when you install, uninstall, or upgrade a program on a Windows computer
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2438651
Substitute:
Unregister Windows Installer and then reregister Windows Installer. To do this, follow these steps:
1. in the menu 'Start', click on ' execute:.»
2. in the "Open" box, type "msiexec /unreg", and then press ENTER.
3. in the menu 'Start', click 'run '.
4. in the "Open" box, type "msiexec/regserver", and then press ENTER.
If this is insufficient, the I would say to install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and run that to remove the Java remains Setup files that can cause problems with your current installation.
For more information, visit the below mentioned link:

Click Start Orb, in the box, type search: Regedit.
Highlight: HKEY_lOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/msiserver
Verify that the SYSTEM account has full control. If it does not, add the SYSTEM account with full control.
Change the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk.

Impossible to install KB2656374 - codes missing Windows Installer Error 80070641
original title: lack of Windows Installer
All of a sudden, seems missing Windows Installer. Certainly not in my list of Services. Thus, the last Microsoft Update K2656374 don't settle with error code 80070641 and 641. A few other updates has not as well. This is the first time Microsoft updates failed. I can't install Windows Installer 4.5 (or any other version) because I get an error message that says that it is not for my system. I think it's because he's not here to update. And I can not install software updates with the .msi extension. Can someone tell me how to extract or install Windows Installer?
I use Vista Home Basic SP2 32 bit and have been for several years. It is the first occurrence of this problem. Using Kaspersky Internet security, and in both years.I'll tell you what has worked for me. Once you have the file "msiserver.reg" on the desktop, right-click. Now, I didn't have an option "Merge" but I got the option 'open '. Then I opened the file using "regedit.exe". You can find it in C:\Windows I think.
I received a confirmation window that my registry would be changed. I said okay Then I got a confirmation that the change was made. I rebooted my computer and looked in "Services" of Windows Installer. And here!I also discovered that System Mechanic is the culprit in deleting a file in Windows Installer. SO I've excluded from analysis of System Mechanic. So far, I'm good. -
Hello world
I used this tutorial:
Although what I did differently is that I extract only the install.wim from disks of Vista from MSDN files, exported the images of the edition according to the needs of the x 64 install.wim to x 86 install.wim, then used UltraISO to save the x 86 ISO with a updated install.wim file.
I used this method with Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 and the two disks that work fine, but the initial stages of Windows Setup have a significant amount of lag compared with the original disks of MSDN and AIO other peoples creations.
Any idea on how to fix the slowness? It is particularly slow since the license keys screen until it finally starts to install.
I tested the speed of install it on a virtual machine and a Dell Latitude D630 laptop.
TIA,

Can not remove the print server role (Windows server 2012)
I have a small question... I'm trying to remove a role (print server) on my Windows Server 2012. (Yes I know, I need to go to "Add/Remove role")
but each time, the server establishes the uninstall procedure, but when it's time to restart and complete the procedure... the server fail and cancel everything... so in the end I always install the print server.
I try to stop a link of service in this role (as a spooler, printing...) but samething.
If anyone can help me, I really appreciate it.
