Can I replace Windows XP SATA drive in HP Compaq dc7600sff with old computer win98se IDE hard drive

I have a Compaq dc7600 I want to use to replace an old computer that I recovered the drive on.

The 7600 has a 80g ATA drive running Windows XP, but I want to remove it and get the older one with win98se and I need that I can't replace programs. I can adapt physically OK, bios hardware lists change, but does not start win98

Hi Paul

I changed the SATA emulation settings combined and it worked well, but as you say, I had a hard time looking for drivers, but I found some that I couldn't find (for example sound/display) I adapted the old PCI cards, I had and this all works very well. It will certainly do the job I want.

Thanks for the reply and the solution

After you moved to the new drive and are convinced that everything is working Ok, then you can format the drive or temporarily start from the old drive and open a prompt (run as administrator) and quick entry: slmgr /upk and press ENTER.  This allows to uninstall the product key from the old drive.

  • Old computer is dead, HARD drive still alive. Can I install windows 7 on your new computer without formatting the old HARD drive?

My old desktop computer recently died of a motherboard failure.  As I understand it, I should be able to install windows 7 from my old computer to the new, but only if I delete the old installation.

Does this mean that I have to format the old HARD drive?  Because the old computer HARD drive seems to be alive, I would retrieve the data on a new machine first, before I have to format and I need to install windows on the new computer to get the data from the old HARD drive.

No, it is taken on trust that the old installation is no longer active, there is no mechanism to remove the old license in order to make a valid new. Remove the Windows directory (or rename) makes the old system inoperative.

You find that the automatic authentication fails on new construction and need to call the licensing Center to check that you have only one installation. Apart from the OEM rules if a license has been activated too often, and recently, it fails in a 1 time.

  • Windows does not load on a Satellite A350 with 500 GB Seagate external HARD drive

There is a problem with this laptop, A350-043 running Vista Edition Windows Home Premium 64 bit, part number: PSAL6C - 04S 015

In other words: when it is connected to a 9NK2AL-510 SEAGATE 500 GB SATA DRIVE EXTERNAL USB (s/n: 5QG1YH1E) Windows will not load, it will up to and gel just before the green movement of the bar. If the USB cable is released and handed over in a second, Windows continues to load normally and all is well.

Otherwise, the operating system will have up to 15 minutes to load. Looking in the BIOS features, there is no option to boot from USB available, so it can not be disabled. I have updated the BIOS of Toshiba to the latest version without any change in this issue.

I tested and confirmed that the problem persists no matter what USB port is used.
The external drive is fully functional, and there is no error or problems with it loading Windows. I reported this problem to Seagate so that Toshiba in the hope that a solution can be offered on this, but has not heard back on anything either yet.

Do you mean that the laptop needs 15 minutes to load the Windows operating system, even if the external HARD disk is not connected?
It sounds weird, and I doubt that this can be related to any software problem

First of all, you should check the boot order in the BIOS the USB should be set at the last or last position.
Second, you should check if the same problem persists even after a fresh install of the OS in some cases, that the start-up procedure could be affected due to the process software and installed background.

But if the new installation of the operating system is not enough and if the issue persists then I guess a hardware problem (motherboard?) could be the reason for that and, therefore, a technician of the laptop must be contacted!

    That s in my opinion

  • Can I replace the memory and not lose what is on the old memory for a Mid 2007 Mack computer desktop Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz processor speed, 1 CPU, 4 MB of Cache L1, the 4 GB memory at 800 MHz bus speed.  Only 1 slot can play memory, the other is damaged

Can I replace the memory and not to lose what's on the memory of the former?  I have a Mid 2007, 20 "desktop Mac, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz processor, 1 CPU, 4 MB L2 cache, 4 GB of memory, 800 MHz bus speed.  I have a backup device.  A RAM slot is damaged.

You are confused of RAM and disk space available.

RAM stores information temporarily while the Mac is enabled and the application is reached. RAM replacement has no effect on the long term of your information storage.

The hard drive is where your information is stored in the long term. If you replace your hard drive, you need restore the information from a backup.

FYI, for your iMac, the maximum RAM is only 6 GB.

  • We bought a new computer with Windows 7. Can I sell the box Windows 7 Upgrade CD that we used for his old computer?

Computer of my wife is dead, so I did a new one supplied with Windows 7 already installed.  Can I sell the box Windows 7 Upgrade CD I bought for his old computer?  We no longer use this license - we pulled the hard drive of the old computer OS and make it like a secondary on his new computer.  If the license is no longer used by us - or it will never again - but I do not know if someone would experience difficulties to activate if they we bought because I do not know if we can 'turn off' the old license.

Yes, you can sell it, you will need to inform the seller that they may have to use the phone activation because it was already in use:

Hello and thanks for your reply. The problem has been fixed. I'm not exactly sure how, but that's what happened. When I'm at a screen that says "repair windows" the cursor would not move to click on proceed. When I had almost gave up and was will wipe the hard drivbe and do a clean installation of "Windows 7", I turned on the computer and got to repair screen and the cursor was somehow operable. I clicked on continue and the computer fixed itself and has been running as good as new since. The computer is 'HP' office and running "Vista".

    Hello

Have you looked to see if you have a recovery partition to reinstall Vista from?

If you do, press F11 at startup to start the recovery process.

"Performing a recovery of the system HP (Windows Vista)"

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/document?DocName=c00809678&LC=en&DLC=en&cc=us&product=18703

    Regarding your original question.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

"How to activate Vista normally and by Activation of the phone '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/84488-activate-Vista-phone.html

    See you soon.
