Can index & TOC flow with surrounding text?

As some of you know, I am busy converting a software of 200 pages manual, who has lived in MS Word for a decade in the code. Had all there today, thanks to you all here and am making great progress. Yesterday, I cleaned all the index entries, and began to experiment with the creation of an index and a table of contents. Seems like ID really want them as separate stories, so we can replace them automatically when you want to update things. And this brings me to a question - is there a way to get the index and table of contents to move with the surrounding text?

To make this clear, I've got 20 chapters, flow all part of the same text. When I add a point somewhere, everything moves, which is what I want. Can I get the table of contents and the index to do, too? You nest a block of text inside another? I see how to do this with a simple text block but not with a series of threaded images. Also, to make this fun a little more, I want the index to be formatted in two or three columns, risk the rest of the book, in a column.

In my view, a TOC frame in the text in the main story of anchorage only works for an image. Not sure, then go ahead and try, but I think that you cannot link anchored frames to each other. It would be a trick if it worked, however.

I think you use direct (not template frames). This means that every image on every page "belongs" to the page. So, if you delete a page, the image on this page is deleted with it, but the text gets just pressed on the next page. Similarly, you can delete just the frame of a page and the text in this frame is pushed to the next section of the string. The only time you lose the text where is if you delete a frame that is not related to another image. If you * add * pages, they have no frames on them.

If you have two choices. If you want to keep everything stated as it is but add pages for the table of contents, you can simply insert new pages (make them appropriate masters, or use the Layout > Pages > insert Pages). You will get empty pages and you can fill them with the FAKE story.

If you want to keep the number of pages, but text reflow to take into account the table of contents, you can remove frames currently on the table of contents pages and fill them with story TOC frames. Afterwards, you will probably need to add pages (or at least frames) at the end of the book to correct the excesses caused by the removal of frames.

Whatever it is, when you are finished, you will have a main story that begins on page 1, continued from (say) 3 pages, jumps from 4 pages for the table of contents and then continues on page 9. If you select the view > show text Threads and choose an image, it will show you how the text strings from the frame to the frame.

It is also possible to throw TOC frames directly on executives from the main story and use skin to get the text of the main story off the underlying frames, but this seems messy to me and looks like a recipe for confusion and accidentally connecting executives incorrectly.

I actually have to insert the picture IN the text so that it does not lose its place... so that as I get more pictures to come, I don't have to move the photos to keep Mary in their correct paragraphs.

    You are currently placing the photo on top of the text block.

    Cut one of the photo. Change the text cursor. Click at the end of the paragraph it "belongs" to enter a blank line. Make sure he has his attack set to 'Auto '. Dough. The image is now 'online', then it will run with the rest of the text.

    For the small text that you have, you would be better using HTML/CSS.

    However... What I often do with text is to make an image of 2 or 4 times more large as I want (with a font size of 2 or 4 times larger), a version flattened export, then lower version flattened 50% or 25%, properly.

    Welcome to the Microsoft community forums. I'm sorry to know that you are facing problems with the new computer of Windows 8.

    Normally, when you start the Windows 8.1, you get the default tips help. Follow the instructions on the tip and it should disappear and never come back.  How to make it go away is to just open the feature he's trying to teach you.

    Thus, for example in your case, you can get rid of it by moving your mouse pointer to the upper-left corner of the screen, then move down until the recent applications and click on one.

    If the problem persists, try restarting the computer once and check if help.

    CFDocumenting the guestbook messages w / emoticons to FlashPaper and then pointing to the .swfs in the img tag works, in my particular case (although I'll have to work with the API FP2 to further customize).     Select your photo and text inside the subform flowed. Right-click and select wrap in subform do the positioned Subform subform. This will allow you to move objects in this subform positioned the way you like them.

    I'm doing a whole book that contains about 100 photos that I put online with the text to illustrate.

    Problem is when I make changes anywhere, the winds of the object/photo upward in the wrong place.

    I found an old article (2009) in a blog online that shows a way to make a stream object with text basically cheated on indesign to the reflection object is text (you copy the chart and then choose the text tool and paste the graphic in the text - and it's here with an anchor on this subject.)

    It's a method a bit wonky (the current text goes a bit crazy and you have to fix it and sometimes repeat the process several times) but I tried other methods of anchor and I can't understand them.

    Nothing has changed since 2009 which allows to simply anchor a surrounding without anchor text object the entire text block of the page (which is the online help you to sign currently).  I don't want no whole blocks of text moves.  I want to object to the flow.  With the text.

    What version of ID do you use? If it's CC or CS6 (I think), it's easier to use a custom object anchored to an object inserted anchored. Contra Larry, I don't think you want an inline anchored object - because you want the text flowing around it.  If you draw a picture outside your text stream, place an image inside, and then take the little blue box that is on the top of the frame, you will create a custom anchored object that is not part of the text stream. You can then position using the selection tool, apply a text wrapping and so on. There are a lot of limitations that are hard to explain but easy to live. Notably, dressing affects text below the anchor. No higher. That will influence where you decide to your anchor objects.

    Another way to get to the same place is to select one of your inline anchored objects, then go to the object-the object anchored-> Options > and use the drop down menu to switch from Inline Custom.

    I don't think so. Because when you're dragging to the desktop (or Adobe Bridge) and you enter the InDesign page, the cursor is expected to create a new image, or (if it is on an existing framework), replace the contents of this framework. But the manufacturing process of an anchored object requires the use of the text tool to make a text insertion.

    What problems are you having with the arrow? You go to Tools-> annotate-> arrow and an arrow appears. Then you can drag around the head and tail to make it to the desired location.
